the first thing i did was scream. i dropped the mango but i was frozen in fear. an elderly bat once told us that the snakes and the bats once had a terrible war and it still has not been completely resolved. the green creature was twined around the branch next to me and we were both standing as still as the tree we were standing on. suddenly the snake jolted forward and without thinking i flapped my wings, flung my talons up and hit the snake in the face. a small amount of blood smeared across the snakes face and it made a small hissing sound. thats when i realized that if i didn't fly away now this snake would kill me in a heartbeat. i flew as fast as i could back in to the cave and flung myself into the small hole. i slammed my small fist against the rock ledge and burst into tears, the sound of the teardrops echoing through the empty hole only reminding me that i was alone in this cave everyone but me called home.
