Chapter 41

"Take a picture and show me that you're incomplete without me, without us."

"Sierra!" Montana squeals, rushing in through the hotel room door and crushing me in a big hug.

"Oh, I missed you so much." I giggle into her shoulder, taking in the familiarity of my best friend. She lets go as soon as I start gasping for air.

"I'm sorry. Sometimes I forget that you're a very tiny human." She jokes.

I gasp in mock horror "I am not!"

She rolls her eyes at me even though she knows I have a few inches on her. "If it helps you sleep at night doll face."

She eyes the suitcases and looks back at me. Luke's bags were in here too. Our flight landed two hours ago and Luke disappeared in a rush after dropping me off in my room.

"Are you back for good?" Montana asks and I give her a small nod.

She cheers with excitement "My plan worked."

"Luke kissed me," I tell her at the same time, my eyes widening. Out of all the things I could have told her.

"You just kissed? I thought he had to do more than that to get you back here. You are too easy Sierra." She laughs again and I punch her in the arm lightly.

"He told me it was all you."

Montana shrugs and flips her hair over her shoulder. "Thank me later—or now."

"Thank you. I realised a little too late that I didn't really wanna go home." I sigh with relief. It was good to be back with them around me. I make a mental note to text my parents and tell them I'm alright and which country I'm in.

"Where's Addy?"

Montana's happy mood ceases a little at my question and she stalls, looking for a good answer but I already know what she's going to say.

"She's mad at me isn't she?" I groan and catch her nervously biting her lip in my peripheral.

"She will get over it. Addy can't stay mad at you for long." Montana assures me and I give her another hug. I will have to talk to Adelaide. Luke warned me that she wasn't very happy right after he kissed me so I had been a little too heady to think straight.

Luke kissed me, and it wasn't an angry kiss. It was a passionate one like in the movies where the world is ending and the characters only have a few seconds left.

I feel like a preteen who just had her first kiss with her crush. It feels ridiculous to think about it this much. He was a little shaken up and kept drifting off in the middle of our conversation but he always held onto either my hand or ran circles with his fingers on the inside of my thigh.

"Do you wanna go grab lunch with me and Calum? We can explore a little too." Even though I'm not hungry I let her pull me off the bed and I slip into my shoes. Grabbing my purse we head out the door and I wonder if I should send Luke a text message letting him know where I'm going.

"Should I text Luke and tell him where I'm going?" I ask Monti for good measure and I see her smile to herself, twirling her hair between her fingers.

"Don't worry about it, I'll bet you ten bucks I know where and who he's with."

---

"Good morning." Montana snickers as we hover over two figures speaking intently to each other in hushed tones with their heads bent close.

"Hey!" Calum's eyes widen with surprise and he stuffs a spoonful of food in his mouth. He fumbles but gets up to hug me and tells me how good it is to have me back and not have to listen to Luke complain all day.

Luke, who is sat next to him waves at Montana and says something with his eyes. A silent thank you. She smiles at him with a nod and I quickly turn away pretending I didn't see their exchange. I'm glad that they have become close while I've been away.

"You rushed out pretty fast," I say to Luke while he wipes his mouth with a napkin

"I—uh had to speak with Calum." He gives me a cheeky smile like "Best friend emergencies what can I do?"

I sit beside him and look out the large windows of the hotel, waiting for them to finish lunch while Montana disappears to the coffee stand. Oslo is a beautiful city. The Norwegian sunrise was absolutely stunning this morning when our flight landed. I wish we had more time to stick around and explore but we were only here for one night. It's unusual but I missed the travelling even though we didn't stay anywhere for longer than twenty-four hours.

"Are you hungry?" Luke asks me and Calum clears his throat on purpose with a smirk.

"No, I'm good. Monti is getting me coffee." I say as she comes back just in time.

"Thank you." I take the warm cup from her gratefully and shudder with pleasure at the smell of caffeine. Jet lag didn't even get to me that much anymore but I was exhausted.

"So are you two like," Calum brings his index fingers close and presses them together "—a thing now?" He asks and I spit the hot coffee back into the cup.

"Ow!" Luke yells from next to me and I apologise thinking I must have spilt coffee on him but he's looking at Montana.

"What the hell?!" Luke asks Montana and she gives him an apologetic look.

"That was for your idiot best friend, sorry." She laughs and kicks Calum under the table instead. He scowls at her with a pained expression and rubs his leg under the table. "What? It was just a question."

Montana murmurs something that sounds like "Irrelevant questions" to him under her breath and unable to contain it, I burst out laughing at the ridiculousness and they all turn to stare at me.

"Oh God." I blow air out of my mouth and wipe at my eyes "I'm sorry, I just missed you guys."

"We missed you too." Calum and Montana agree, laughing with me.

Luke takes my hand in his with a grin and stands up. "Let's go." I grab my cup of coffee and follow him hastily.

Calum and Montana quickly stand up too, following us as Luke pulls me behind him. I turn around and see Calum limping and I catch the little smirk between them. Can everyone stop giving each other secret looks? It was starting to get a little awkward.

We walk around Oslo for awhile and take in the museums and art from outside since we don't have enough time to go inside them. The boys talk about their work for the new album and it all sounds brilliant, we assure them that the fans will love it.

I stare longingly at the entrance of an ancient museum and Luke promises me that we will come back here again soon and he drags me away. He doesn't let go of my hand all the while and I happily keep my hand in his. We shuffle along the streets, Luke and Calum bending their faces inwards a little when they see groups of teenage girls.

It's November and cold enough that we huddle close as we walk. Montana disappears inside a traditional wear store and Calum follows her inside. I begin to follow them inside too when Luke pulls me back into his chest.

"Sierra." He hums into my ear and I turn around, putting my hands on his chest. He's a little pale but his skin is warm. I tug a corner of his beanie down to cover his exposed ear, examining his pink lips. His lip ring is between his teeth while he ponders something. "Luke."

"So are you my girlfriend?" He asks nervously.

"I don't know. Do you want me to be your girlfriend?" My heart beats fast in my chest that it almost aches.

"Not really." He says and I raise my eyebrows at him in surprise. What is that supposed to mean?

But he quickly corrects himself. "I don't want to label you as my girlfriend. You're my—we're more than just a label aren't we?" He asks me with the deepest kind of sincerity in his voice.

We have pulled each other to extreme ends and we are still standing here, together.

"We are. We're too far gone into each other." I run my hands up his chest and wrap them around his shoulders.

"I definitely wanna go further but we're standing in the middle of the road so—" Luke chuckles at my mortified blush and wrong choice of words.

"Shut up." His lips are already giving me the hardest time. I didn't need those thoughts too.

"Significant other then?" He asks, blue eyes shining.

I like the sound of that.

"Significant other, definitely." I chuckle and raise myself up a little to kiss him.

Our lips meet and my entire body melts into him. His arms pull me closer into his warm body and our lips move in synch. His lip ring stings like ice at the corner of my mouth but the feeling of it all starts a warmth in my tummy that spreads all the way up to the roots of my hair. If Luke wasn't holding me in place my feet would have buckled underneath me.

"Mhmm." Someone clears their throat behind us and I pull away from Luke quickly, turning around and accidentally hitting my foot against the pavement edge. Luke catches me before I fall down and pulls me back towards his chest again with a laugh.

"Fucking Calum." He laughs into my hair and I bury my face in his neck. I'm pretty sure I was beet red with embarrassment and my full blown grin was aching my flushed cheeks.

"We should get back to the hotel. The show starts in four." Montana says with a smile in her voice.

"Yeah. Alright. Let's go." I straighten my coat and clear my throat.

Luke takes my hand again and tucks some flyaway hair behind my ear. "Let's go, significant other."

---

"Sierra!" Sammy hugs me when we arrive at the stadium for sound check.

"It's good to see you again Sammy." I really did miss getting bossed around by him, kindly of course.

"It's good to have you back. Please don't leave us again. Ashton went on stage without his clothes again." Sammy huffs with exasperation making me laugh out loud.

Luke's arm slides around my waist when he comes to my side. "I love the sound of your laugh." He whispers in my ear and pulls away, leaving me flustered to join the other three boys on stage for sound check.

Sammy rushes away towards the sound of screaming fans and I start to move backstage because that's the next best option since I can't push Luke onto the ground and make him kiss me again.

I wonder how Addy and Montana have been dealing. R5 aren't on the European leg of the tour and I didn't know how to feel about it. According to my knowledge, they were supposed to be here but I don't dwell on it, a part of me is glad that I don't have to face Ross right now.

I move through rushing people to find the boys dressing rooms.

"Monti? Addy?" I call out, looking around the dressing room but it's empty. Since no one is around I crash down on the couch and breathe a sigh of relief. I haven't had a moment alone to think through everything that has happened in the past two days.

I told Luke, about Heath.  Heath...No, don't think about him now either.

Luke...It has become so easy to be closer to him now that it felt like a miracle. I'm so glad that he is letting me in.

I need to declutter and organise my brain. Now that I'm actually back, I sort through the list of things we need to do for the boy's performances in the next few months.

Fourteen shows in Europe.
Global Music Awards in a week according to what Montana told me this morning.
New Costumes are needed for three super private gigs.
We will have to get new material

The door opens and loud talk and laughter booms through the room. The band walks in followed by a group of girls and some of their bodyguards and stage crew. The quiet room turns into mayhem in a millisecond.

They spot me on the couch and a chorus of greetings along with my name drifts through the room. I wave at them all and get introduced to the new band that is opening for the boys for now. They are an all girl band and are new to the music scene so I have never heard of them before.

"Stage in an hour FiveSOS! Punk-Ella on in thirty!" The stage manager shouts and starts giving further instruction but is interrupted by Ashton walking in with Addy riding piggyback.

"Ello one and all! The queen and I are here. Move away child move away." He chuckles and makes beeping noises as he backs into the sofa. Addy's eyes find me and all laughter drains from her face.

"You actually came back?" Addy spits out, shocking me with her tone.

"Um, I texted you guys before the flight... I thought you knew." I start but she puts a hand up to stop me.

"No. I knew you were coming back but I thought you were smarter than this. Smarter than to let him drag you back here where he can hurt you even more!" Addy shouts and the room goes silent except for the pounding of blood in my ears.

"I came back because I wanted to Addy. I am very well aware of the consequences—"

"Stop lying to yourself! You can't—" she moves towards me and something blocks my view of her.

"Enough! You wanna start something start it when you're alone with her." Luke warns her, his jaw clenching as he shoots a look at Ashton. I start to follow when Ashton pulls Addy out of the room and into the corridor.

"Sierra, Sierra." Luke follows close behind me but I don't let him stop me.

"What is your problem?" I ask Addy once we're out of the door and in the corridor. There are people running around getting things ready for the show so they pay us no mind.

"My problem? My problem is that you let him," Addy jabs a finger at Luke over my shoulder. "—him, fuck you and get you to come back here so he can hurt you the same way he did the first time around and send you back." Addy's choice of words shoots anger through me and I ball my hands into fists at my sides, the nails digging into my palm painfully.

"Be careful what you say, Addy. First of all, he did not sleep with me and even if he did that is none of your business. I came back because it was a mistake and it won't happen again. Why are you making such a big deal out of this? Why can't you just hug me and say 'oh it's good to have you back, best friend?'"

Her eyes bore into me, "Because it's not! He is going to break your fragile little heart again and I'm not going to help you pick up the pieces this time! Goddammit!" She yells in my face.

"I am not fragile and stop making this about him!" I shout back at her.

"Isn't it always about him? Luke bloody Hemmings! It's always about him!" She yells and stalks away and this time, people stop to see what all the fuss is about. Ashton shoots us an apologetic look and runs after her.

I stare at the spot my best friend was just in, wondering how those words came out of her mouth. She was never the one to cause a scene and be so unwelcoming.

"She—" I feel Luke's arms go around me and he presses my face into his chest. She didn't want to listen to what I had to say. I know she's angry at the stupid choices I make and the back and forth but she has to give me a chance to explain. She needs to know I trust Luke.

"She will come around. I promise." He takes my face in his hands and kisses the top of my head.

"I should have talked to her first thing when we got back," I say tiredly.

Luke lifts my chin to look at him. "She is your best friend but don't take what she says to heart and you don't owe her any explanations. I promise you I won't ever do anything to hurt you again. I cross my heart and hope to die." My heart drops to my feet at his promise.

Another wave of anger flows over me. How dare Addy talk about him like that to his face? She would have never forgiven me if I ever spoke that way to Ashton.

"I'm sorry she said all that to you." I apologise to Luke.

"I don't really care about what she has to say, love. I make my promises to you and only you."

The blue of his eyes shine just like the blue of the sand in the chain around my neck and I believe him. I believe him with every bit of my confused heart as I push down the voices chanting in my head.

Promises are only ever meant to be broken.

A/N:

Hi guys! I'm so sorry for the late update! I have been terribly sick and just got myself to write a few hours ago.

Is Addy right? Should Sierra have stayed away or should she let herself trust Luke the way she wants too? Let me know what you think.
