Slowly But Surely

"Don't think I forgot what you did to me last time, you little brat."

Budo was standing at the school exit along with his entourage of followers. It's been technically weeks since both he and (Y/n) have met. In the heat of the moment, (Y/n) regains some of his memories. As he thinks, he begins to recall the details of their last encounter.

In terms of the past, Budo and his group was trying to get under (Y/n)'s skin and when he tried to get away, he was met with a punch to the stomach. Budo constantly teased (Y/n) in regards to his parents disappearance. (Y/n) then recalls that last time, when he stood up to Budo and dodged his punches prompting Budo to tire out allowing (Y/n) to leave. It seems that memory is still fresh within Budo's head as it has staled within (Y/n)'s.

"All I did was dodge your punches, it's not that big of a deal." (Y/n) sighs, he wasn't really as fazed as he was before. For since then, he gained various different experiences. Some good, some bad, and some even scary. The fact that even he himself was brushed with darkness and even death, it is those facts alone that his resolve was strengthened. Budo however did not share the same sentiment.

"Not a big deal, he says." Budo laughs a bit and walks toward (Y/n). "I don't know where all this confidence came from but it's annoying me. You can't change in day." Budo says with annoyance. This does confirm Aqua's words however, as it seems many of the people here only recall a day rather than weeks. Time does indeed flow differently when a world is encompassed by darkness.

"Budo, I don't have time for you today. Can't we just leave this be and go our separate ways?" (Y/n) asks, not wanting this situation to prolong. "Last I checked you don't call the shots here." Budo then snaps his fingers and his followers inch closer to (Y/n). "Especially since you're outnumbered." Budo adds. Budo's followers get closer and closer and (Y/n) takes a step back. He considers using his magic but there were two reasons why he couldn't do that. One, being he didn't want to hurt others. Second, he didn't even know if his magic would work since he's back in his world, the world in between light and darkness.

"What's wrong? Seems your confidence shrunk." Budo says as his lackeys inch closer. (Y/n) was at a loss, there isn't much he can do on his own especially since these are actual people. He's fine with attacking Heartless but humans? He didn't want to risk it. He steps back as they get closer until his back was against a wall. "Let this be a reminder that you are not some main character in a game. Don't think you're so high and mighty, remember your place as that quiet little boy that remained invisible to the school." Budo says and right before he snaps his fingers-

"HEY LEAVE HIM ALONE!"

Everyone turns back to the entrance and when they do they see a figure who's face was all to familiar to (Y/n). It was Sora. "Sora!" (Y/n) calls out, prompting confusion to Budo and his lackeys. "Who's this? Friend of yours?" Budo asks with a annoyed tone. "That's for me to know and for you to find out on your own." Sora says as he walks toward the group, only to be blocked by some of Budo's followers. "Didn't think mister silent here had a friend. And here I thought they all went away." Budo says with a snarky attitude.

"Just leave him alone, that's all I'm asking." Sora says and looks to Budo with face of confidence. Budo goes silent and scoffs before walking away. "Tch. Let's go." He says sounding annoyed, his group following close behind him as he walked away. Once they were far away enough, Sora grabs (Y/n)'s hand and walks him out of the school, heading home.

"H-Hey, how did you know I would be in trouble?" (Y/n) asks as they two walk. "Well... Roxas still had that feeling eating at him earlier from lunch. Vanitas also felt that strong angry energy as we left." Sora then pauses for a moment and looks toward (Y/n). "And I was worried..." he softly adds.

(Y/n) was touched to see Sora care and worry about him so deeply but then Sora slowly comes to a halt, making (Y/n) perplexed. "Sora? Is something wrong?" (Y/n) asks. "Nothing... I just... I realized I can't do much in this world to protect you." Sora says which leaves (Y/n) in confusion. "What do you mean?" He asks. "Well... back in our world we only fought Heartless, Nobodies, Nightmares and Unversed. Sometimes people but they have magical abilities or are able to use keyblades. But... here... we can't use our keyblades." Sora says causing (Y/n)'s eyes to widen.

"N-Not because we can't!" Sora quickly adds to avoid any confusion. "It's just... from what we've seen so far a lot of people here are just normal. No keyblade wielders, no magic users. If we used our abilities we could seriously hurt them." Sora pauses and looks to (Y/n)'s hand that is being held with his own. "So... we're a bit limited." He finishes and (Y/n) gently rubs Sora's hand with his thumb. "I get it. This world isn't anything like yours. Just in that situation earlier I considered using my magic. But I didn't want to hurt them whether I knew if I could use my magic or not."

Sora looks to (Y/n) with his eyes wide for just a moment, but it was enough for (Y/n) to notice. "I haven't tested it out since I got back here. Sorta slipped my mind in all honesty." (Y/n) says and Sora let's go of (Y/n)'s hand. "Well... can you do a quick spell? Just to make sure?" He asks. (Y/n) looks around, the sidewalks and roads empty. No one else in sight. "Well... no one is here. So... okay." (Y/n) says and he puts both of his hands in front of himself.

(Y/n) focuses his thoughts, he uses those very thoughts to conjure an image in his head and slowly that very image becomes a reality. As he imagines something small, a small little chunk of ice magic, his hands feel a small chill and once the image in his head finishes forming, a small chuck of ice appears in his hands, floating in the air. This brings a smile to both Sora and (Y/n), as it seems he hasn't lost his abilities. (Y/n) then looks at his right hand, but something was different... the Dream Eater sigil was still there but it's been... faded out. It wouldn't be noticeable from far away but up close, it was like some sort of faded tattoo or birth mark.

(Y/n)'s then moves his hand away, making the ice spell disappear and tries to do something else. He tries to summon a Spirit like he once did before. He tries to call Chirithy and as he focuses, the sigil on his hand glows but it begins to flicker out shortly afterward. Eventually the sigil goes dark and Chirithy never came.

"Ugh..." (Y/n) groans. "Guess not everything was kept..." Sora sighs and grabs (Y/n)'s hand gently. "Hey it's okay. There's no rush, we have all the time here to figure things out." Sora says and the two continue to walk, both smiling at each other knowing they have each other's back.

Yet far beyond their sight, someone is looking at them from in high. Someone with a black coat, all to similar.
