chapter 3
The howling wind whipped at quinns face leaving her hair to cover it making her unable to see this unforgiving land that she was in.
She fought with her hair for a few minutes trying to be able to see, although she wasn't sure if she wanted too. She marched on now able to see where she was headed , the lake lay too her right but the winters cold had left it untouched for it moved so fast that it was unable to freeze. No life insight she trudged on feeling anxiety rise up within her, she didn't want to know how to get back just to know what was going on here.
As she walked up a steep bank she felt her heart jump into her mouth as her eyes fell on one of the most beautiful and magnificent things she had ever seen in her life. There on this lonely hillside stood a proud jet black fresian horse. It's hair long and wavy ,the tips lying just above the bottom of its neck , making it look mysterious and it made quinn instantly drawn to it . She wanted to know why it was here by itself alone on this hillside for it was the only life she had seen so far. Curiouser and curiouser whispered the voice inside of her head.
The horse standing high and mighty on top of the grassy green hill it looked her over. it was not a look to determine whether she was a threat or not it was a look that signified respect and that of someone that had waited a long time to see her(it was what she imagined her parents to look at her like. If they ever came back).
Quinn felt as if she had been searching for this horse since the day she was born but hadn't known till now. She had no idea why but at this moment she thought of her parents of her mother . The pain came running back to her about her parents and how they were so quick in there departure? , why they hadn't come back?
She was so overwhelmed with grief that she couldn't take it anymore tears rolled down her fair skinned cheek and began gathering speed as they went dropping to the floor one by one they were like a drum in her head.
The horse was reminding her of her parents she wanted him to stay so badly but she knew her suffering would not end until this horse was gone.
"Go" she whispered to herself knowing it wouldn't reach the horse.
"GO!"she shouted meaning it willing for her suffering to end. The horses beautiful brown eyes stared at her as the horse whinnied as if asking her if he could stay. Quinn could feel the tears falling faster now down her face now travelling to the ground at an increasing rate.
"GO , WHY DO YOU HAUNT ME WHY?" The tears now clouded her eyes. "WHY WHY TELL ME WHY!?"
A sudden light blinded her meaning she could only make out shapes of the people around her.
There was several short screams that filled the air quinn wondered where they came from, but because the people there were standing over her she already knew that the screams were her own.
Strong , gentle hands shook her "quinn calm down , quinn you're fine I'm here".
Her eyes adjusted to the blinding light and she saw the unmistakable electric blue eyes of Leo. Quinn could feel herself relax in his arms she felt safe away from all the danger . She held onto him sobbing in his arms still not quite over what had happened.
She was pulled away from Leo into the miserable nurses room .It seemed like there was an endless supply of blue , yellow and red files . What did they all mean?
They performed a series of tests on her for what seemed like hours , the scratching of the pen on paper irritated her and everything in here made her want to escape, escape now and find Leo and megan. there was a light tap on her arm "you can go now deary" said the old nurse of her school. Wait why was she here again?
The last thing she could remember was being on that frost bitten hillside with the horse who caused her so much misery , but she still wondered where he had gone and if he would ever come back.
It was the end of school and quinns grandad couldn't come and pick her up because he was going to the hospital. So Quinn walked home with her three best friends Megan , Leo and Jane. Jane is a average weight girl with dirty blonde hair quite different from Quinn with her light brown hair.
Quinn had known jane since she was 3 years old they had had a lot of fights over the years about random things and the arguments normally lasted a couple of weeks because they were both to stubborn to admit they were wrong.
They all walked on to the bunker in a line there feet falling perfectly in line. Trees around them forever growing taller and thicker the branches were now scratching at their faces as they stepped over fallen branches and nettles in the way of there path.
Finally as there came over a hill they saw the familiar moss covered stump of a felled tree. It looked like a normal stump to other people but to them it was actually a doorway to there hang out which they had made there own over the years by taking little things that were half broken from their houses they were good enough for them but not their parents and they knew they wouldn't be missed so they just took them.
This was there place to get away from all the troubles of life and to just be with each other.
