7: Nope!
I helped her up with my good hand and we looked either direction, there was no way out the way we came, but there was an opening to our right that led deeper underground.
"This is a bad idea." I heard her protest behind me, but taking her hand, we press on.
The cave was massive, glowing mushrooms lit our way as we slowly went forward, the surface was hot and miserable, but here was cool and damp.
"Ronan, I do not feel well." I turned back to her and her nose was dripping with blood, I immediately leaned her against the rock, worry clouding my judgement.
"Kari? What's wrong?" She groans and slurs her words.
"Headache..." She grips my arm and closes her eyes in pain.
"Is this normal, what can I do?" I started panicking, she was slowing me down Yes, but she needed me, and I wasn't about to let her die.
"I think I hit it, on the rock, I am fine."
She nodded, holding her nose to stop the bleeding.
She grabbed my hand and pressed them onto the back of her neck, I felt heat trickle up my cheeks.
We stayed like that a few moments before she released my hands and looked up at me.
"Find a way out, come to me when you do." I open my mouth to argue but she slowly shakes her head a pushes me away from her.
"Okay, I won't leave you behind." I said, and I walk down the caverns tunnels glancing back of few times.
"I know you will not." She responded quietly, but I could still hear her, as I glanced back, and slip and fall, catching myself before I tumble down the tunnel.
The rocks were slippery, they were glistening with water and were so smooth it was like walking on ice. I had to be careful.
I continued down the tunnel, there were spider webs everywhere, and I constantly patted myself down from paranoia.
The tunnel was getting tighter and tighter, to the point where I could no longer stand comfortably inside it and had to lean down so my head wouldn't rub the ceiling.
Finally, I emerged in a great stone basin, the ceiling was high with a massive hole letting light into the cave, I stand in awe, enjoying the view.
Until I slip again. I catch myself on a ledge, hanging on a slick, heavy rock with two hands.
The hole I had nearly fell down would have definitely killed me, I couldn't see the bottom, and it's gaping magnitude sent chills up my spine.
"Kari! Help!" I shout out and my voice echoes around me, and I hear quick and labored footsteps.
"Ronan?" Her face appeared over the side of the hole, he still held her head as if it was on fire.
"I slipped, help me up." I said reaching up for her, she stared at me for a moment, then screams so loudly I nearly release the ledge.
I heard gross clicking behind me, and I look only to be greeted by eight inky black beady eyes.
A huge spider, bigger than a large dog, was hanging off the wall behind me clicking its mandibles that had an acid green, toxic smelling venom dripping from them.
"Kari!! Help me up please!!!" I slip downwards towards the spider and I look up to see the terror in Kari's eyes, she was frozen in fear.
I slip downwards farther, my fingers barely holding on and the spider hissing and snapping at my feet.
"Kari!! Please!!" She tears her eyes away from the spider and lowers her hand to grab me, but she's too late, I slip off and I closed my eyes, waiting for death.
Instead, I hear a great roar explode from underneath me, like A lion but larger and more menacing.
Some great beast had caught me with it's massive head, and the spider sulks down back into the abyss.
Huge, leathery black wings beat underneath be, a huge snake-like head makes a low and foreboding rumble, and it's huge spiked tail bats against the wall.
Kari slowly walks backwards, the beast feeling me on its back and turning it's huge head to stare into my soul, it had red, blood colored eyes.
I yelled, and it flew up and up and up, through the hole in the round room and up into the desert sky. I could still hear Kari Screaming my name in fear.
The Dragon swam through the air, obviously it did not care that I was on it's back, but I did, mostly because I didn't want to fall off and hit the ground like a glorified grape, and some, because I didn't know when the beast had last eaten.
It dive bombed the ground and then streaked up into the sky, I thought that we'd go into space, or so high I couldn't breathe, I shut my eyes and held onto the scales on it's rigid back. but instead it stopped, I heard the wings beating underneath me, and the hot, static breath of the beast breathing down my neck.
I opened my eyes, first to see a thin, glowing layer of refracted light above me, By instinct was to run my hand along it, the implant in my arm burned, but not enough for me to stop trailing my finger along the smooth surface.
"We are trapped" Is the only thing I could think before a more pressing matter rears it's head. It's hard, black, snake-like head.
I looked over to see it's large eyes looking at me curiously, there was something in them that jogged a very early memory, a black, small tail, shoveling snow.
There was a name on the tip of my tongue, a Greek god. But I couldn't force it out.
Until I thought of the god of lightning
"Zeus....?"
