"I have to leave." i said lowering my gaze. The grass below was greener and the mud was moist. It rained heavily yesternight. The town and my pillow both witnessed the downpour. It was just the beginning of my story and didn't wanted it to get spoiled. The thought of separation paralysed my feelings. First time in two years of hostel life I detested vacations.
" why are you sad? You will come back after a month, right?" He tried to console. Did he read my mind? Is he also sad about my departure? list of queries again encircled my fragile brain. I looked up at him, trying to read the expression. His face glowed in morning light. His eyes sparkled in the sunrays. His green viens stood erect over his neck. He looked stunning.
" I am not sad but I will miss playing tennis." I said. Trying hard to not give him any chance to guess my affection. I don't want to beg love from him.
"How selfish you are, you won't miss me?" He said, somewhat dissappointed. I didn't expect that question. Ofcourse i will miss him. When the sunshines in the lap of sky or when the night cast shadows on earth and in my every breath from dawn to dusk, i will miss him.
"No, you are a nightmare and i dont fancy it." My tongue contradicted my thoughts.
"Oh really! That's why you make midnight calls to me, right?" His lips hid a smile. He targeted me brutally and i had no sheild. I didn't have any words so i let that statement linger in the morning breeze.
"What time are you leaving? Let me drop you to station." He said, shifting the topic altogether.
"After one hour. Thank you for the lift." I said with apathy and he smiled in response.
He was on time. He bought me chocolates, coldrink and toothbrush that i forgot to pack. He struggled with my luggage and hunted for my seat. He handed me a bottle of mineral water and antiemetics, prescribing me its doze. He adjusted my things properly in my upper berth.
I stared at him in amazement. He is just the xerox of my father. That was the exact way my father sent me hostel everytime. The train whistled to leave and reminded me of our splitting up.
"Convey my regards to your Mom, Dad and Sajid Bhai" He said, leaving me amidst the cacophony of the afternoon train. I saw him standing on the platfrom awaiting my return.
