25 - The Inquisitorial Squad

The following Sunday, I went straight to the classroom in the dungeon after breakfast.

It had been the longest week of my life. I spent the entire time longing for when I could be alone again with Draco.

We had exchanged many furtive looks across the Great Hall at meal times; every longing glance sending thrills swarming throughout my entire body.

And one time, in Potions, he surreptitiously wrapped his fingers around mine after we both approached the supply cupboard at the same time, Draco passing me the correct ingredients when I picked out the wrong items.

So, when I stepped into the classroom on that following Sunday, I almost wasn't surprised to find myself instantly engulfed in a pair of arms.

"God, I've been wanting to do this all week," Draco growled in my ear before crashing his lips down upon mine.

We simultaneously moaned as our mouths worked furiously against each other, and I proceeded to let out an involuntary cry as he slammed my back against the now closed door.

My hands went to the back of his head, threading my fingers through his hair, clutching hungrily at him, sighing in the pure joy at the silky feel of his golden strands.

"I love your hair," I groaned against his mouth.

He paused, breathlessly lifting his head up. His heaving chest remained pinning me to the door as his silver grey eyes looked amusedly into mine. I could feel his furiously beating heart pressed against mine as his hot, shallow breaths hit my face.

"You're something else, Neve," he chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "God, I've missed you."

"I've missed you too," I whispered back as a warmth spread throughout my entire being.

Our eyes gazed adoringly into each other. A happiness that I couldn't describe filled my heart as he leant in to gently brush his lips against mine.

A loud croak sounded by our feet; we both glanced down to see Trevor looking expectantly up at Draco.

"All right, buddy," Draco chortled, stepping away from me to delve his hand in his pocket; retrieving a handful of beans which he scattered on the floor by my delighted toad.

Taking my hand, Draco led me over to the two desks he had already pushed together, pulling out a chair for me to sit down upon.

"So, what is it today?" He asked, grabbing another chair and placing it right next to mine as he sat down and pulled me in for another sweet kiss. "Potions?"

But studying was the last thing on my mind.

And the glint in his eye told me that he knew exactly what I was thinking.

"Come here," he growled, pulling me onto his lap, his arms circling my waist as his lips connected hungrily back with mine.

"Fuck," he moaned, as his hands grappled greedily at my robes, digging his fingers fervently into my back as our kiss became more frantic.

I could feel him shift uneasily beneath me, and I nearly gasped out loud at the hardness pressing against my weight through his trousers.

I froze; terrified to move. I realised we were going a lot faster than I was ready for.

I mean, I'd only experienced my first kiss just a week before.

"Oh! I'm sorry!" I gasped, completely flustered as I quickly jumped up off his lap, trying my hardest to keep my gaze averted from his nether regions.

"Neve, it's okay," Draco said through ragged breaths, his voice hoarse with a kind of longing as he grabbed my arm. "You aren't doing anything wrong."

"It's too much," I panted, feeling my cheeks flame as my heart thudded frantically against my ribs. "I'm- I'm not ready."

Draco immediately leapt to his feet, wrapping his arms around me as he pressed his lips down on the top of my head.

"It's okay," he murmured, tightening his hold a fraction, "I'm not expecting anything. I just like being with you, Neve."

I looked up at him gratefully, my heart melting as his grey eyes flickered warmly in mine.

We proceeded to do some actual studying; Draco helping me with Potions yet again.

"He's going to start suspecting something," I muttered as I signed and dated another completed essay. "I'm usually rubbish at this."

"What is your favourite subject?" Draco asked curiously, his question full of sincere interest.

"Herbology," I blushed, feeling foolish admitting it. "Plants fascinate me."

I looked back at him, expecting to see the mocking look that usually greeted me whenever I confessed my love of this 'dorky' subject.

But instead, all I saw was adoration in his eyes, mingled with a look of awe.

"Your cactus..." he said, his face falling in realisation, "What Goyle did- I'm sorry. Was it...?"

"Uncle Algie went all the way to Assyria to obtain it for me." I said sadly, feeling that horrific feeling in my chest whenever I thought about my flattened Mimbulus mimbletonia. "They're particularly rare, you see. I still haven't told him it's dead."

"Oh, Neve," Draco murmured sympathetically, putting an arm around me as he pressed his lips against my forehead. "I'm sorry."

I was about to remind him it wasn't his fault when a flash of something silver on the front of his robes caught my eye.

"What's that?" I frowned, fingering the little 'I' shaped badged which was pinned to his chest.

Draco jumped back slightly, looking mildly flustered.

"Er... it's just a thing Umbridge has put together," he said; his eyes looking shifty, not quite meeting mine. "A few extra responsibilities for a few select students."

"Oh," I swallowed, not liking the sound of this, "doing what, exactly?"

"Look," Draco said, leaning towards me conspiratorially. "I shouldn't really be telling you this, but Umbridge suspects that there's some sort of army forming within the castle, and she's appointed me - amongst others - to investigate and help bring an end to it."

I tried to disguise the alarm on my face.

"That- that's... crazy," I said, making an effort to keep my voice as light as possible.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Potter's behind it," Draco snarled, his top lip curling in obvious disdain.

"It seems a bit extreme, though," I said, trying to hurriedly stuff the finished Potions essay in my bag, "hiring a squad to look for this army."

"It's dangerous times, Neve," Draco said fiercely, "and if these so called idiots want to retaliate against the Ministry, then they need to be stopped. I have no sympathy for them - they'll all get what's coming to them if I have my way."

I gulped.

Somehow I didn't think he'd be too pleased to discover that I was keenly behind it.

I just prayed he would never find out.
