Chapter 23

The bell rang to signal the end of the day, and I breathed a sigh of relief, my whole body relaxing ever so slightly because today had been stressful for some reason, especially since both Aquamarine and I had not said a word to each other, even though we were in the same classes and sat next to each other during them as well as sitting next to each other at lunch.

Thank Neptune, I thought and quickly packed up my bag before I started to make my way to the door and toward my locker where I knew that Brady would be waiting for me. Today was a long day, even though I have no idea why.

It's because Aquamarine hasn't talked to me today at all...

I pursed my lips in annoyance and shook my head, ignoring the pain in my heart. But I haven't said a word to her either...

My heart became filled with more pain and guilt, and I shook my head again and walked out of the door, following the throng of students that were exiting the classroom as well.

"Hey, Ty?" someone asked from behind me and gently grabbed my elbow, and my whole body grew warm and a slow shiver went down my spine, indicating that it was my Chosen, who had grabbed my elbow. "Can I talk to you for a minute alone, please?"

I turned my head to the side and looked at her from the corner of my eye.

Concern filled my body when I saw how frazzled and pale she looked, and I couldn't help but turn my body a little bit toward her.

"Yes," I said instantly and nodded in confirmation. I furrowed my brows and cocked my head while I studied her. "What is it? Are you ok?"

Aquamarine pressed her lips into a thin line, not saying a word. She looked around before she looked at me and took my hand in hers and started to lead me somewhere, and I shivered, following her, my heart skipping a beat before it started to pound faster and harder in my chest.

I didn't say a word while she led me to a private spot, and I stopped when she stopped and turned toward me.

Aquamarine sighed and let go of my hand, and I couldn't help but frown, not liking the fact that she took her hand out of mine. She looked around before she looked at me, clearing her throat. "I'm sorry, Ty," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper, and I raised an eyebrow n question.

"For?" I asked before I furrowed my brows and cocked my head while I studied her. "What do you mean?" I asked and raised the eyebrow higher. "Why are you sorry?"

Aquamarine sighed and folded her arms across her chest before she shifted on her feet and cleared her throat. She looked away from me and pressed her lips into a thin line, not telling me why she was sorry.

I bit back a small sigh before I shook my head and cleared my throat, pressing my lips into a thin line. "Aquamarine," I said, trying but failing to keep the annoyance out of my voice. "Why are you sorry? What's wrong? What's happening?"

Aquamarine flinched and cleared her throat before she shook her head. She didn't say a word and shifted on her feet, looking everywhere but at me.

I tried to bite back another sigh before I shook my head and cleared my throat, moving a hand through my hair and across my face, annoyed. "You know what? Never mind," I said and shook my head again while I pursed my lips in annoyance. "I have to go to my locker and then get ready for swim practice. I do not have time to stay and wait for you to say why you are sorry. I'm sorry, but..." I shrugged and grimaced. "I can't."

Aquamarine hesitated before she slowly nodded, and a look of pain and guilt flashed through her eyes and across my face. "Can I walk with you, please?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

I hesitated before I slowly nodded. "Sure," I said before I cleared my throat and gestured for her to follow me. "It's still a free country from what I can tell."

She bit back a small snort and slowly nodded. She didn't say a word and gestured for me to start making my way to my locker, and I did what I was told to do and started to walk that way with her following me.

I didn't say a word while I stared forward, even though I kept giving her side glances and noticed her looking at me, doing the same thing, and there were a few times I caught her looking at me.

Aquarmine's cheeks grew red, and she looked away from me when I caught her looking at me, and I bit back a small snort, becoming amused.

Finally, Aquamarine sighed and shook her head before she cleared her throat and moved a hand across her face. "I guess that I should tell you that I am sorry," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, and I pressed my lips into a thin line before I slowly nodded.

"Please," I said and moved a hand through my hair and shook my head, clearing my throat while I looked at her. "Why are you sorry?"

Aquamarine pressed her lips into a thin line and grabbed her bag tighter, not looking at me. "I wanted to say sorry because I didn't mean to make you feel bad..." she said before she cleared her throat and moved her bag from one shoulder to another. "I would appreciate it if you can forgive me, but I would understand if you do not."

"Make me feel bad?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I looked at her. "What do you mean by that?" I asked while I furrowed my brows and cocked my head, studying her.

Aquamarine sighed and shook her head, pressing her lips into a thin line. "Or feel like shit," she said. She cleared her throat and shrugged while she grimaced. "I don't know," she admitted before she cleared her throat and shifted some more. "I don't know. I haven't gotten enough sleep these last few days..."

I pressed my lips into a thin line before I looked at her, becoming worried and ignoring the fact that we have this wrap, especially since she was my Chosen. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Are you ok?"

Aquamarine bit back a tired sigh and shook her head while she grimaced and cleared her throat. "I will be," she said, her voice barely above a whisper while she shifted her bag from one shoulder to another. "I don't think I am ok right now, but I will be. I just need some sleep."

She pressed her lips into a thin line and shook her head before she cleared her throat. "And I need to know if you forgive me and not just let the bond between us say that you do." My Chosen gave me a hard look, and I pressed my lips into a thin line while I looked at her, not saying a word.

I slowly blinked and set my jaw, not knowing if I did forgive her or not, and I didn't want to say something that I didn't mean.

However, that didn't stop the feeling that I didn't like seeing her upset...

Aquamarine sighed and shook her head when I didn't say a word. "I know that I don't deserve your forgiveness, and I respect your decision, Ty."

I bit back an annoyed sigh before I moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I cleared my throat while I looked at her. "Do you trust me?" I asked while I raised an eyebrow in question.

"What?" she asked, her voice becoming a pitch higher while she stared at me, her mouth opening wide a little.

I slowly blinked and pressed my lips into a thin line while I stared at her, unimpressed. "Do you trust me?" I asked again, dipping my head closer to my chest.

"Why?"

I shrugged and grimaced while I pressed my lips into a further thin line and stared at her slowly blinking. "Why what?" I asked while I raised an eyebrow in question. "What do you mean by why? It's a simple question, Aquamarine. Do you trust me?"

Aquamarine hesitated before she slowly nodded. "Yes," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She cleared her throat and shifted, not looking at me and grabbed her bag tighter. "I trust you."

I bit back a small snort before I shook my head, not knowing if I believed her. "Then why are you not looking at me, Aquamarine?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Why did you hesitate as well?"

Aquamarine sighed and shook her head. "I don't know," she said honestly before she cleared her throat and shifted toward me this time, "but I do trust you."

I made sure to keep my face blank, even though all I wanted to do was set my jaw and narrow my eyes because I did not believe her. I had a feeling that she didn't trust me but didn't want to hurt my feelings.

"What about me?" she asked and looked at me, and I looked at her and raised an eyebrow in question. "Do you trust me?"

I bit back a small sigh before I shook my head and moved a hand through my hair. "In all honesty, I don't know," I admitted before I cleared my throat and subconsciously shifted away from her, and Aquamarine flinched and pressed her lips into a thin line. "I wish I did, but..." I shrugged and grimaced, not able to finish that sentence.

Aquamarine pressed her lips into a further thin line and slowly nodded, and a look of pain flashed through her eyes. "But I haven't given you a reason for you to trust me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She chuckled coldly and shook her head while she pursed her lips in annoyance. "But I have done the complete opposite."

I bit back a small sigh and moved a hand through my hair and nodded. "That is true," I said. "I thought you said that you wanted to work this out, but after yesterday..." I shrugged and grimaced while I shook my head and cleared my throat. "I still want to try this out, Aquamarine," I said and looked at her. "Don't get me wrong, but..." I shrugged and grimaced.

"This is new for you just as much as it is for me, right?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and I nodded in confirmation while I pressed my lips into a thin line. She sighed and shook her head before she cleared her throat. "Can I come with you?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question.

I looked at her and raised an eyebrow in question, not knowing why she wanted to come with me and to go where. "For?" I asked. "What do you want to come with us to?"

"To your friend's house," she said while she shrugged and grimaced. "If I want to be a part of your life, then I have to get to know the real you, and I hope one day you will be able to do the same... with me..."

I breathed a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded, happy that she wanted to get to know the real me and my friends. "I wouldn't have it any other way, Aquamarine," I said and nudged her arm a little, earning a small smile from her.

I wouldn't have it any other way...
