Chapter 3- friendship
I smile as I hear few stray knocks at the door. The same pattern of "thud thud thud-thud thud" followed by a kick to the door and a rattle of the doorknob . A simple, but easy way to decipher that the person behind it was Jason. Although childish, it helped ensure my safety in a way.
I pull back the small tab that covered the peep hole just to check and begin to unlock the door. Again, it's for safety!
"Wow!" Was the first thing I herd when opening the door. "You look like death."
I stepped aside, giving him some room to come in whist giving a mix between a glare and a "really?" look. I probably looked stupid.
"You know, I actually tried today. I was looking through a newspaper that got dropped off at my door and apparently, it is a new trend." I say locking my door.
"Oh really, so soaking wet hair and clothes, combined with stray twigs and leaves and bare foot is a thing now." He says raising an eyebrow as he leant on my kitchen counter.
"Yup. Personally I think I'm rocking it." I say, waking in and striking an over exaggerated pose in front of him.
He chuckles. "You are something aren't you."
"I try." I say.
"So, how's things doing?" He says, trying not to laugh at my fabulous completion.
"Things are doing well actually. My corgis are in the west wing getting bathed by Robert, he's my new butler, whilst Andrew and Mary are currently tidying and cleaning the east and making there way around the rest of the house. I just had Peter prepare lunch. I hope you are fine with an afternoon tea, because I had tea and crumpets with boiled eggs and caviar for breakfast so I am not hungry at the moment. Would you like to join me in a stroll round the newly pruned gardens, the man I had do that did a wonderful job. The pansies look beautiful."
"Wow. I never knew you had an imagination." He says laughing at my impression.
"I think it was pretty good." I say punching him in the arm lightly.
"Ow! I will never get used to your new strength. That actually hurt." He says holding the place I had previously punched him and began running circles into it.
Now it was my turn to laugh. "I can't believe I was a human, they are so weak." I say, wiping an invisible tear from my eye.
"Your kinda human." He says.
"I suppose so. Half human, half wolf. It's better than being a mundane."
"Don't refer to me as a mundane. I'm not part of that fandom." He mutters.
"You didn't!" I gasp.
"Oh yes I did." He says, a smug smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Prepare to die!!" I say lunging at him as he begins to run. I jump on top of him and pin his arms to the ground, smiling at his weak attempted to get up.
"Curse you and your freaking werewolf strength." He mutters giving up on struggling. "Can you let me go now?"
"Nope. Not until you admit that mortal instruments is a great film."
"Really?"
"Yup."
"Your not serious."
"Yup."
"Ugh fine. Mortal instruments is a good film."
"Ahem."
"A great film."
"Meh. I'm ok with that." I say getting off him.
Sighing, he gets up off the floor dusting off his hands and begins to talk. "So what do you want to do today?"
"Um..." I say, trying to think whether I need to get anything. "I need some more toothpaste, some food and and we need to check the news, unless you have beat me to it."
He shakes his head. "I haven't. So we can stop off at the shops first, and then I will give you a lift to your work."
I groan as I remember my job. "I don't wanna go." I say pouting.
"That's what you say every time you have to go." He says moaning.
"That's because it's true!"
"Neo! You have to go. You need the money."
I look around my kitchen. The paint was peeling and the overworked lightbulb flickered in protest. The gentle creak of the door swinging in the breeze. It was a wreck. "Yeah, yeah. My house is a mess. Blah blah blah. Leggo!"
"Okey dokey." He says making his way towards the door. I put on my rusty converse and my Panic! jumper that Jason had given me when he grew out of it, and followed him through the door. Locking it behind and hopping in the car.
"Hey? Hey? Hey? Neomea? Hey?" The annoying tone of my only friend ringing through my ears.
"What do you want?" I say angrily looking up, only to see him holding the CD disk he got me for my 15 birthday.
"How's about a bit on twenty one pilots girl?" He says, his grin replicating a Cheshire Cat.
I smile at the sight of the CD. The many trips in the car where we played it on repeat. He made it on his fancy computer and put all my favourite songs on it, therefore, I knew all the words.
"You know me so well." I say as he slots it into his radio and the first song brings to play. Knowing the order, I start to sing along.
"I ponder of something great
My lungs will fill and then deflate
They fill with fire exhale desire
I know it's dire my time today
I have these thoughts
So often I ought to replace that slot
With what I once bought
Cause somebody stole my car radio
And now I just sit in silence."
We both continue to sing the song, allowing other people to admire our beautiful hand motions as we drive past them. Their stares only urging us on.
"I'm so glad your crazy too. I don't know what I would do if you weren't crazy. I would be less crazy. And my life would be less crazy. I would feel like something is missing. Don't you think?" Jason asks me once the song finishes, and turning it down as Johnny Boy comes on.
"Jason, are you ok?" I ask, resting my hand on his arm as I hold in a laugh.
"To be honest, I really don't know anymore." He says laughing.
"That makes the two of us, or should I say three. Right Lupin?"
'Ugh, humans.'
"She's very happy to have us as her company."
'That's not what I said you idiot.'
'To be honest, I really don't care lupus!'
I sigh as we begin to pull up to the dusty, broken cafe "seefood", the sign dangling from its post, the few unharmed lightbulbs attempting to light up.
"I'll go to the shops on the way to pick you up, after your shift is over. Have fun!" Jason says, pulling the hand break and turning round to face it.
"Ha ha. Very funny." I say getting out the car, and closing the door before it speeds off. I turn around and begin my walk of shame towards the door, only to hear a beep. I turn around to see Jason, smiling and reversing over to my left side.
"Don't forget my burger!" He shouts before driving off again.
I growl and trudge my way towards my income.
