37~ Sick Navigator

37~ Sick Navigator

Mira

After we managed to get Sanji to calm down, we got Nami to rest. She assured us she was just tired, but her cheeks were red. I promised her that Vivi and I would be back in the morning to check on her. She protested, saying she was fine, but the way Herman had reacted earlier said differently.

The next morning, I was the first one into her room. I wet her cloth once more and draped it over her forehead. She was still panting and sweating, but it didn't seem as bad. Vivi soon joined me and used another cloth to wipe down Nami's body.

Sanji soon followed after. He had tears and snot running down his face as he chewed on a napkin. "Is Nami-san gonna die? Is she, Vivi-chan, Mira-chan?"

I glared at him. "She should be fine. She might just have a cold."

"Mira's right," Vivi agreed as she sighed and wiped the sweat of Nami's cheeks. "It must be the climate changing. One of the obstacles all sailors who enter the Grande Line run into is illness caused by abnormal weather." She explained as Usopp and Luffy entered her room. They stood behind Sanji, who continued to sniff and shed tears as he stared at Nami.

I sat on the edge of Nami's bed and gently traced my fingertips along her her neck, feeling for a change in her body temperature. "There are countless stories of tough, notorious pirates suddenly dying from this. Carelessness makes even the slightest case deadly."

Sanji whimpered as he pulled at the napkin between his teeth. "Nami-san!" He tried to wipe at his tears.

"Is there anyone on this ship with any medical knowledge at all?" Vivi asked to us.

We all pointed to a barely conscious Nami. A worried look crossed Vivi's face as I pulled my hand away.

"But eating meat makes sickness go away!" My eye twitched at Luffy's suggestion. "Right, Sanji?"

"I can make some basic food meant for sick people." Sanji sniffed as he put the napkin back in his pocket. "But that's entirely in 'nursing' territory." He explained as he stared down at Nami.

"There's no guarantee it'll make her better..." I glanced up to him to see him staring sorrowfully down at Nami. He looks utterly depressed. "Besides, I normally put 100 times more care into Nami-san's, Vivi-chan's, and Mira-chan's food than I do yours. I serve them fresh meat and vegetables, for balanced nutrition. I give all the other rotting stuff to you guys."

"And yet it still tastes good to them." I thought to myself as I trailed my fingers along Nami's cheeks. I heard a slap as Usopp cried out in protest.

"In any case," Sanji continued as Vivi and I tried to work over Nami. "As long as I'm this ship's cook, there will be no problems whatsoever in terms of getting a balanced diet. But there are different kinds of meals for sick people. What are her symptoms? What are her needs? I can't make that call..."

"Then she can just eat it all!"

"Luffy, you're not helping." I said to him before turning back to Nami.

"Exactly," Sanji and Usopp gave him a deadpan look. "Besides, she's sick because she doesn't have the energy for that!"

I tuned the guys out as they bickered some more. "Vivi, what's the thermometer say?"

She pulled it out from under Nami's arm. "40 degrees Celsius?! Her fever's gone up again! (104 Fahrenheit)" Vivi cried out in shock.

I bit my lip. "Not good..."

"There's gonna be doctors when we get to Alabasta, right?" Usopp asked worriedly. "How much longer will it take, Vivi?"

She hung her head and sat back. "I don't know, but one week is out of the question."

"Is being sick that bad?" I heard Luffy mutter to Usopp.

"Dunno, never been sick." Both Sanji and Usopp replied at the same time.

"Well, aren't you guys just lucky..." I grumbled as I wet her cloth and placed it back on her forehead.

"Who in the world are you guys!" Vivi suddenly screeched, hurting my ears. "Of course it's bad! 40 degrees Celsius doesn't happen every day! This may be a life threatening illness."

All three of them cried out in fear of our navigator, just now realizing how bad this is.

"Nami's gonna die?!"

"Don't die, Nami-chan!"

Karoo and Usopp ran around the room screaming their heads off as all of them cried rivers of tears.

My tail and ears flicked at all the screaming. I covered Nami's ears as best I could. "Stop that! Be quiet!" Vivi and I shouted at them.

"Let's find a doctor to help Nami!" They're completely ignoring us...

"Okay! Just calm down!" Vivi shouted over them as I tried to keep Nami's ears covered to block out as much of the noise as possible. "You're gonna make her illness even worse!"

"No," I gasped and stared down at Nami as she stirred. That shut them up. "No." She said again as I helped her sit up.

"Nami-san..."

"Oh! She's all better!" A huge grin lit up Luffy's face.

I glared at him as I held Nami's cloth.

Nami took a few deep breaths before she spoke. "In my desk drawer... there's a newspaper..."

Vivi went over and pulled it out. Nami told her a page to turn to and she began reading it. She paled. "N-no... This can't be!"

"What is it?" Luffy asked as I wiped sweat from the back of Nami's neck.

"Is it about Alabasta, Vivi-chan?"

She crumpled the edges of the paper as she read it aloud to us. "300,000 royal soldiers defected to the Resistance... It was originally a cold war, with 600,000 royal soldiers and 400,000 Resistance soldiers. But now that's suddenly changed!"

"The uprising in Alabasta is finally going to get serious now," Nami said as she took in a few gasps of air. "That paper is from three days ago. I'm sorry. We can't change our speed. I didn't want you to worry showing you that. Understand, Luffy?" She directed that last part to him.

He had a serious look in place. "Things seem really bad,"

"Whew," Nami gave a small smile. "That got through to you better than I was expecting."

"But you need to see a doctor!" Usopp protested.

"I'm fine!" She smiled a bit bigger as she moved the blankets from covering her. "That thermometer must be broken. Nobody gets a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. It's probably just sun stroke or something." Despite me urging her to lay back down, she started to get back up.

"We don't need a doctor," She pushed my hands away as she stood. "I'll get better on my own. For now, let's head straight for Alabasta as planned!"

She stopped at the foot of the stairs and smiled at us. "Thank you for worrying about me." With that, she climbed up and out of sight.

"So, is she better now?" Luffy asked, breaking the silence.

I stared after her as Usopp spoke. "Idiot. She's acting tough. There's no way she could be fine with a fever that high."

I slowly shook my head as I knelt down to comfort Vivi. "Hey, it'll be okay."

"No, it won't." Her hands shook a bit as she stared blankly at the paper. "At this rate, so much blood will be shed throughout the kingdom. It's an all-out war. If I don't stop that, the Alabasta kingdom will be done for! Crocodile will take over!"

She covered her face with the crumbled paper. "I can't just return safely! I need to return as quickly as possible! If I don't make it in time, a million citizens will kill themselves pointlessly!"

"There's a million people!" Luffy gasped in shock as I wrapped my arms tightly around her shoulders.

"What an immense burden you're carrying, Vivi-chan..." Sanji whispered as he placed a hand on her shoulder. I held her tighter as she fought to keep the tears back.

"We'll get there soon," I traced my hand over her back. "Trust me, we'll be there before you know it. We can stop this together."

"Hey!" Zoro's voice shouted from above. "Get out here, you guys! We've got work to do!" I helped Vivi to her feet and we all went up to see what was going on. She told me to go on ahead and sat on the bed. I gave her one last encouraging shoulder pat before I went up with the others.

"What is it?" Luffy and Usopp asked once we were up top.

"It's hard to feel motivated when you're giving orders," Sanji sighed lazily as we looked up.

"Just shut up and move!" He shouted down to us. "Take the seat and catch the portside wind."

I nodded and went to do as he said. "What's going on, Nami-san?" Sanji asked as I began to untie a part of the sails to prepare for our turn. "The waves are quiet, and the weather's nice."

I didn't hear her response, but I covered my eyes as Luffy suddenly shouted, "You're hot! Yeah, get back inside the ship! Let's go to a doctor!"

"Mind your own business!" She snapped at him. "This is my normal temperature! Now quit being stupid and pull the ropes!"

"Yeah, I can't do this myself!" I called out to the others as they stood around. I could hear Sanji's voice calling up to her, but I couldn't quite hear his words. I grunted as I tried to do the work myself.

"I told you, I'm fine!" Was Nami's response to what he was saying. "Just hurry up and move the ship!" Finally, everyone kicked into gear and began helping me. In no time, we began moving the ship in the direction Nami wants us to go. The ship groaned and creaked at the sudden movement, but soon we were on our way.

We relaxed and leaned against different parts of the ship. Just as I got comfy standing next to Zoro, the door to the lower deck opened. "Everyone, I have a favor to ask," Vivi said as she joined us.

"I know it's not my place to say this as a passenger on your ship," She gripped the railings. "But my homeland is in a terrible state right now. I'd like to hurry ahead! We can't waste even a single minute! So I want this ship to head to Alabasta at its fastest speed!" We all stared at her as determination radiated off her.

I gave her a half salute and smiled. She returned it and faced the others.

"Of course," Nami grinned at her. "That's what we promised."

Vivi relaxed and smiled at all of us. "Then let's find an island with a doctor on it right away!" Okay, not what I was expecting her to say. Nevertheless, I smiled wider at her.

"Let's cure Nami-san's sickness as quickly as possible, then head to Alabasta! That's this ship's fastest speed, right?"

"Right!" I agreed as Nami stared at Vivi in disbelief.

"Yeah!" Luffy chuckled. "We can't go any faster than that!"

"Are you sure?" Usopp asked her. "As their princess, you should be worried about those million people."

"That's right!" she clenched her fists. "So we need to hurry and cure Nami-san's illness!"

"Well said, Vivi-chan." Sanji grinned. "I've fallen for you all over again." I rolled my eyes at him.

"You got guts," Zoro draped his arm over me.

I watched as Nami used the railing to walk over to Vivi. "Thanks..."

"Don't over exert yourself, Nami-san!" Vivi helped steady her.

"I'm sorry, Vivi..." Nami gave her a weak smile. "I think I am kind of... in trouble..." My eyes widened and I pulled away as she collapsed into Vivi's arms.

"AAAAAAHHHHH!!!" Oh, what now?! "What is that?!" I turned to see what Luffy was pointing at. My eyes widened even more and my legs shook like jelly. It looks like... a huge wall of rotating, violent clouds. It traveled across the water, right where we had been before. That could have been us trapped in that deadly storm.

"That's a cyclone!" Vivi exclaimed.

"It's huge!"

"Wait!" She held onto Nami tighter as the waves suddenly grew choppy and the sky darkened. "That's the way we were heading before!"

"It would've been a direct hit if we had kept going straight!" Usopp stuttered out as we all clung onto something to keep steady.

Lightning flashed and the winds suddenly picked up. It carried us farther away from the storm with the back draft.

A streak of lightning struck directly on the water's surface a ways behind us. Luffy yelped as he held onto the center mast and his hat. "Yikes! We just barely made it through!" And Nami managed to detect the storm and steer us away from it. Incredible.

"Alright!" I looked up to Luffy. "Let's hurry, then! Let's go find us a doctor!"

"Yeah!" We all cheered out as we changed our speed and continued on. I met with Vivi and helped her carry Nami back down to her room. We changed her rags once more and covered her up as best as possible.

Usopp raced down a few seconds later to inform us the weather had changed and it was starting to snow.

This can't be good... I raced back to my room and pulled on my coat and brought one for Vivi. Just as I made it back, I had to move around Sanji who was racing from one end of the room to the next.

"What do we do, Vivi-chan!" He cried out as I draped the coat over Vivi. "Nami-san's fever won't go down!" Soon, the bird joined in.

"Sanji-kun! Karoo! I told you both to stop freaking out!" She snapped at him as she shrugged the coat on.

The slid to a stop. I watched Nami closely as Vivi wiped more of the sweat off Nami. There's gotta be a way to help her feel a little better before we find a doctor. I can't watch Nami suffer like this. What can I do to help...?

An idea suddenly struck. "I'll be right back." I left the room and headed for the kitchen. As I made my way there, I spotted Luffy and Usopp staring at Zoro, who was in the crow's nest.

"See any doctors?!" Luffy called up to him. I rolled my eyes and stepped in. I opened a couple drawers, not finding what I was looking for. Where is it? Where does he leave that thing? If I were Sanji, where would I put the...?

Aha! I pulled out his boning knife and stared at the wickedly sharp blade. This will do perfectly. I reached over and grabbed a cup. I rested the blade in my hand and slowly wrapped my fingers around it. The bend of my thumb pressed into the blade. I flinched and grimaced as it slid through like butter.

Instantly, blood began to drip out of my hand. I held it over the cup and let it drip inside. I slowly pulled the knife away, cutting a bit deeper. My blood flowed into the cup a bit faster and filled it about half way. I pulled my hand back and rinsed it off in the sink. I watched as the wound began to close up and the water run clear once more.

"Sorry, Sanji." I set his knife in the sink and quickly rushed back to the room before the blood got too cold.

"Here," I stepped in and everyone looked up.

"Mira, what's-"

"Have her sit up," I said as I knelt down beside Nami.

"What is that?" Vivi asked.

"It's my blood."

"You're what?!" Sanji freaked out even more. "How did that happen?! And in my good cups!"

"I used one of your knives to cut myself." I said as I moved closer to Nami. "I need her to drink this."

"My knives, too!?"

"Mira, drink your blood?!" Vivi had gone pale. "Are you out of your mind!? She can't drink your blood! That's practically cannibalism!"

I met her gaze. "I'm a Neko, not a human. It doesn't count. Besides, when I got sick, my blood would fight off whatever was making me sick. I figured that if she drank my blood, it would mix with hers and do the same."

"Are you sure that would even work?" She asked as she stared down at Nami.

"It's worth a shot." I moved a bit closer and gently began to lift her head.

"Mira... wait..." Nami whispered. "I can't... drink that..."

"Sure you can," I said softly as I smiled at her. "It'll work the same! Please, let's just try it! I can't see you suffer like this."

"Please, Mira..." She turned her head away. "I just... cant. Even though you're a Neko, I can't do it. It doesn't feel right to me."

"But your fever hasn't gone down yet!" I insisted. "Maybe it won't completely heal your sickness, but it can at least make it more comfortable and break the fever! Please, let's try it! I don't want anything bad to happen to you!" Tears had begun falling down my cheeks.

Nami slowly shook her head. "No. I'm sorry. I won't do it."

I hung my head in defeat. "Alright..." I stood and headed back so I could clean out the sink and the cup. As I was passing by, I glanced over to see what looked like a person standing on the water right in our path. I rubbed my eyes and looked again.

Yup, still there. And what is he wearing? It looks like a jester costume. He had a bow and a quiver of arrows slung over his back. He just stared at us.

How is he even standing on the water? That shouldn't be possible. I quickly went back to the kitchen, rinsed the cup, then headed back to stand beside Luffy and Usopp, who were still staring at this strange guy.

"Hi," He called out to us on a monotone voice. "It sure is chilly today."

"Uuuuhhh..." I literally have no words for this.

Luffy turned to Usopp. "Yeah. It is chilly today!"

"Yeah!" He agreed. "Chilly, chilly! Very chilly today!" Are they just trying to fill the awkward silence between us and the jester?

"Really?" I flinched back at him. Even though he didn't look it, something struck me that this guy isn't one to mess with.

He flinched at us flinching. What the hell...? We all just stared at each other, not sure what was going on. Is this guy for real right now?

Suddenly, something burst from the water. I screamed and gripped the railing as the ship tipped back and slid off what ever was under us. We landed back in the water with a splash as this behemoth of a ship emerged from the water before our eyes.

"What is that?!" Luffy held his hat tighter as he gripped the railing with me. "Is that a watermelon?!" Wait, did he really just ask that?!

I got a better look at the thing before us. Oh, now I see how he can think that. This ship before us seemed to resemble a watermelon, but made of metal. Folded up sails sat atop this odd looking ship. What is even going on right now?!

My mouth popped open as the metal exterior began to fall away with ropes attached to them. They revealed an actual ship inside of it. Something else broke the water's surface. I leaned over and spotted a hippo's head wearing a crown fixate itself as a figurehead to the ship.

....... I think I'm getting Nami's sickness and becoming delirious. Either that, or I'm dreaming. There's no way this could be real. I pinched myself, but didn't wake up.

"Crap!" Usopp backed up a couple paces. "A pirate ship!" A black flag popped up. The skull and crossbones sported a crown. Does this captain think he's royalty or something? Now who does that remind me of? I can picture the guy... he had numbers painted on his face...

Maniacal laughter filled the air around us. Dozens of men soon appeared around the rails of the ship before us, each wearing long gray snow coats with white fur, that covered them head to toe.

"Did our jumbo underwater raid ship, the Tin Tyrant, surprise you?!" A voice echoed around us. More laughter that sounded like a dying toucan filled the air once more.

"Actually, I'm kinda disturbed..." I muttered.

"Huh?" The voice replied.

"I mean, a hippo? That's not very threatening..."

"Shut it, Kaba!" He shouted at me. Wait, did he just call me a...? I looked down at myself and wrapped my arms around myself. I'm not that fat...

"Anyway," He cleared his throat. I waited for him to speak, but nothing happened.

The door suddenly flung open. "Hey! What's going on?!" Sanji asked as he stared at the thing before us. He took a step back and pulled out a cigarette and his match box.

"I... don't know..." I said as I pulled my coat closer to me. "But whoever he is, he called me fat..."

"What?!" He took a drag of his cigarette. "So, what's going on?"

I glanced around and soon found we were surrounded by the mysterious man's men. When did they get here?!

"We're being attacked." Luffy said nonchalantly. They surrounded us with rifles pointed right at us.

"Well, I figured as much, from the looks of things." Sanji glanced around.

"Are you really pirates?" The voice asked again. "You're strange. Especially the one with the Neko ears. Is it just you five?

I slowly turned and grimaced as the guy seemed to have just appeared on our ship. He bit clean through the dagger and piece of meat he had been munching on. I slowly took in his very round and plump form. He had a metal jaw that clanked as he ate the dagger pieces.

He wore a metal, laced up chest plate and oddly orange and purple patterned shorts. On his feet were fur snow boots. Draped over his shoulders and messy spiked blue hair was a wholly hippo skin, its front legs tied around where this man... thing... was supposed to have a neck.

Yeesh, and I thought the guy in the chest looked weird.

"I find it hard to believe that a pirate group would only have five people," He continued as he swallowed the last of the meat and dagger he had in his mouth. He tossed the last of the blade and hilt into his mouth and munched on it rather loudly. Pieces of metal and spit flew out of his mouth.

"Ew..." I whispered to myself. "And ow... that'll hurt later coming back out..."

"What is this guy?" I heard Luffy ask himself. "He even ate the knife!"

"Just watching hurts!" Usopp cringed as he tried to look away.

"Well, no matter," The freak said when we didn't answer him. "I'll start by asking this. We want to go to the Drum Kingdom. Do you happen to have an Eternal Pose or a Log Pose?"

"Nope," Sanji said as he took another drag. "Never heard of the place."

"Okay, you're done, right?" Luffy scowled at the man. "So leave! We're in a hurry and don't have time too mess with you!"

The strange man shrugged and sighed. "Don't rush life like that. But if you have neither, then oh well. For now, I'll take your treasure and this ship."

"Excuse you?" I raised an eyebrow at him. Who just has such a calm demeanor over something like this?

"You heard me." He glanced over me. "But first, I'm hungry." To my horror, he turned and took a huge bite out of the ship's railing. His mouth stretched comically wide as our ship splintered from him taking a bite out of it.

"What the hell?!" I jumped back in shock. "Just what are you?!"

"Don't eat our ship!" Luffy shouted down to him as he somehow swallowed the piece of ship.

"Hold it right there!" One of the men pressed his gun to Luffy's head. "Wapol-sama is currently eating!" Luffy simply knocked his fists into the two guys closest to him.

"Damn bastard! Fire!" They shot at Luffy. I just rolled my eyes. They're in for it now. Guess it's time for us to retaliate. I removed my coat and pushed aside the cold feeling. I pulled my katana out and glared at the guys in front of me.

"No wait!" I heard Usopp cry out. "We can discuss this!"

I avoided the gunfire the guys before me shot. For those I couldn't, I used my blade to deflect them. I used my Pussy Foot maneuver to get behind some of the guys and slice their weapons clean in half. They gave startled gasps as I effortlessly cut through them. They should've thought twice before coming onto our ship.

For those who didn't have guns, I clashed blades with them, easily knocking them aside and in to Zoro's path. Together, we made quick work over the guys around us.

"You cold?" He asked as we pressed our backs to each other.

I shook my head. "Nah, this got the blood flowing. I'm all good." I ducked as he swung and I swiped at the feet to my left. Three guys went down as Zoro and I fought together. We spun in a circle, switched places, and cut down several more guys.

"It's like they're dancing!" One cried out just before I got him.

"Who even are these people!?" And down he went.

"All bark and no bite." Zoro muttered as our way cleared.

"Wapol-sama! These guys are insane!" I glanced up to see this Wapol guy still taking bites of our ship.

"Stop that, you sick freak!" I shouted at him as I rolled a guy over my shoulder and into Zoro.

"Are you still eating it?!" I looked behind me to see Luffy flailing his arms, easily knocking people away. His nostrils were flared with anger as he charged for Wapol.

"Hey, you!"

Wapol turned from eating our ship. "Fool! You're no match for Wapol-sama!" One of the men called out to Luffy.

Well, he's no match for our captain. Luffy can handle this.

"Time to get eaten by the Munch-Munch Fruit!" Say what now? Did he just make that up?

I flinched as Wapol opened his mouth wide and pretty much ate Luffy whole, save for his extended arms. What the hell?!

"What is this?!"

"Vivi, get back inside!" I called over to her. "We can handle this!"

By this time, pretty much every one of Wapol's men were down. I stood up and put my katana away. Shouldn't Luffy's arms be stretching back by now?

Zoro and I stared at Luffy's arms. Wait a second... "Zoro, let's take two steps back."

"Huh?" I pulled him back.

"What a hard to chew person!" Wapol stated as he tried to munch on Luffy. Ew, it must smell so bad in his mouth. What else has he eaten? Blegh...

"Why you!" Came from inside Wapol's mouth. Luffy's arms flew through the air, passing through where Zoro and I had been standing.

"Go flying!" His arms smacked right into Wapol's stomach, making his mouth pop open. Spit and saliva spewed from his mouth as he crashed through our railing and out into the ocean. Wapol's men stared in disbelief from their ship and a small spark where Wapol went danced in the sky.

I wiped at my forehead. "Well, glad that's done." Zoro smirked beside me and placed a hand on my shoulder.

"This is bad!" The jester cried out. "Wapol-sama was set flying!"

"Wapol-sama is unable to swim!" Another cried out as he grabbed at his head. That's a very bushy afro... and what the hell is up with his beard? I didn't know you could grow hair to make it look like little circles are growing off the chin. Wait, is his mustache connected to that?!

"He will surely perish if we don't rescue him in time!" The mouth of the hippo figure head opened up. The men who attacked us scrambled on board to go rescue their captain.

"This isn't over, you!" The jester jabbed a finger at Luffy. "We will make you pay for this!"

"Remember us!" Circle mustache shouted as the last of the men boarded their ship. "We'll get you for this!"

"Remember us!"

"Remember us! Please!" The ship quickly sailed off in the distance after Wapol. They were still shouting at us to remember them.

I blinked. "Who were they again?" Everyone chuckled at my joke. We soon parted ways to either repair the ship or to figure out what had just happened.

~~~~
The sun was soon starting to set. The snow had stopped falling a couple hours ago. The entire time after Wapol was taken care of, I haven't left Nami's side. Vivi and I worked over her to make her as comfy as possible. She's grown even more pale and her temperature has not gone down even the slightest bit. Her cheeks and nose are rosy red and we can't seem to keep her warm.
She is just drenched in sweat and I can tell she's uncomfortable, no matter what we do. If only she had taken my blood...
Luffy stared intently at her. "Are you sure she's not just hungry?" I glared up at him. "If so, she should just eat meat enough for 100 people! Eating meat makes sickness go away!"
Sanji sighed. He's been doing this all day... "Look, you..."
"Come on, cheer up!" Luffy stretched his earlobes and tied them above his head. "Look, look! See! cheer up!" When he didn't get a response, he started tying up more parts of his face while still trying to get her to look.
"Luffy, that's disturbing," He met my gaze, but ignored me and tied his nose into a knot.
Dread washed over him as his face snapped into place. "She didn't laugh... Not one bit..."
"That wasn't funny." I placed the wet cloth over her forehead again. "That was just gross. Go bother someone else if you're not gonna help."
"But I am helping!" He whined as he tried again. "Won't her fever go down if we dump water on her?"
"You idiot!" Sanji and Vivi knocked him away into the wall.
"The sun's about to set for the day, Vivi-chan, Mira-chan." Sanji said as he straightened back up.
"You're right," She nodded. "Let's drop anchor for the night. We can't navigate at night without Nami-san's instructions."
"Yeah." I watched the picture hanging on the wall fall directly on Luffy's face.
Sanji left the room to tend to a few things. Vivi and I stayed with Nami. We tended to wiping off as much of the sweat as possible and making sure the water was cool enough to try an break her fever. This went on for hours. I glanced up at the clock after a while. Vivi fell asleep about an hour ago around eleven. It's pushing midnight.
I placed the cloth over Nami's head one last time before I relaxed into the chair Zoro had brought down for me. I watched the two of them sleep. Nami isn't doing any better. No matter what we do, her fever just won't break.
Vivi snored softly from the side of Nami's bed. She had been leaning over it and slumped down a bit, her head resting on her arms. She'll be sore when she wakes up. I sighed to myself and tipped my head back to stare at the ceiling. I looked to my right as Luffy let out a rather loud snore. Everyone but Sanji decided to camp out in her room to watch over her. He took night watch to make sure no one snuck up on us as we slept.
I chuckled to myself and and settled into the chair.
"Sanji... food..." Luffy muttered in his sleep.
"You already ate, idiot..." Came from Usopp.
"Just go to sleep, idiots..."
"Who asked you..." I rolled my eyes at their sleep talk.
My eyes soon began to flutter shut. No, I promised myself I would stay awake the whole night to watch over Nami. I can't fall asleep. Stay awake, Mira! Stay awake. Stay awake... Stay... awake...
When I opened my eyes, Usopp was gone. I quickly glanced around, faintly hearing taps coming from above. Ah, he must be repairing the rest of the damage we didn't get to. I can't believe I fell asleep. I rubbed at my eyes and yawned.
I looked over to see Nami had turned over. I grabbed her cloth, wet it, then draped it over her neck. This helped her relax a little bit. I gave her a soft smile as the rest of the crew began to stir and wake up. They muttered good mornings and stretched from their uncomfortable positions.
Vivi winced as she stretched her arms out. "Mira, were you up all night?"
I shook my head. "Nah, I snoozed for a few hours. Go out and stretch your limbs. I'll watch over her." She nodded and stood. She filed out with everyone, except Luffy. He pulled up another chair and stared down at Nami.
"Has anything changed?" He asked.
"Nope." I sighed and leaned back. "Though, she does seem a bit more relaxed now. And she has a bit more color to her cheeks."
"Will making funny faces again help her?"
"Luffy, I don't think-"
"Bleeeehh!" He stuck his tongue out and stretched his cheeks. He smooshed his face together. "Come on, Nami! Look!" I endured this for a while, shaking my head.
I glanced up as feet sounded on the stairs. "This is weird. Come on, Nami! Smile!"
"What's going on, Luffy?" Zoro asked as he stood behind our captain.
"I wouldn't-" But Luffy had already turned around. He'd drawn in rectangle eyebrows, drew eyes on his eyelids, and painted his lips red. When he closed his eyes, you could see fake eyelashes drawn from his fake eyes. He even had the word "meat" written on his face.
Zoro just happened to catch him as he was stretching his cheeks again.
Zoro fell back in mute terror. "I tried to warn you." I said with a sigh.
Luffy stood and made funny faces at Zoro. "Quit that! You're creeping me out!"
"Really? Thanks!" He just doesn't get it...
"I've been dealing with this all morning," Zoro looked up to me to keep from looking at our captain. "You shoulda seen what he did before."
"I'm afraid to ask..." He cleared his throat and scooted away from Luffy. "Anyway, I came to check on your guys to see if you needed anything."
"Meat!"
"Nothing," I spoke over Luffy.
"Hey, that's rude!"
"And you're weird," I pushed his face away from mine.
"We've found an island!" Came Sanji's voice from above. We looked up at his words.
"An island!" Luffy quickly wiped his make-up off and grinned. "An island! We found an island! Hey, Nami! Good for you! We found an island! You can get better!"
Zoro and I stared at Luffy as he bounced in place. He's so weird...
"There's an island! An island! An island!"
"Alright, we get it." I pinched his lips together. He proceeded to speak around my fingers holding his mouth shut. That's somehow more annoying. I released his lips.
"Island! Island! Island! Island! Island!" I just sighed and held my head.
"Why don't you go take a look at it?" I suggested.
"Oh! Good idea!" He raced off to go look at the island.
"Now he's their problem." Zoro and I chuckled at my little joke.
"So is she doing better?" He asked. "Or did his faces make it worse?"
I smiled and rolled my eyes. "She seems to be slightly more comfortable. I can't be too sure, though. Her fever is still really high. It's anyone's guess as to how she's doing."
"That's true." We fell into silence as we watched her rest. She's still panting from the fever, but not as much. Hopefully it went down a little last night.
"Say," I tapped my finger against my leg. "What kind of island do you think it is?"
Zoro shrugged. "Not sure. But since it's cold, I'm guessing there's gonna be snow."
"Ah, makes sense."
"Hey! We're about to land!" Sanji called down to us.
"Shall we?" Zoro lead the way upstairs.
Let's just hope there's doctors on this island that can treat Nami.
