(Author's note Arpil 2020: So, I've decided to read over and do a MAJOR edit for the story because the first bit made me cringe hard. I figured it would be better to go through the chapters once more and build upon my 2015 "OMG this is gonna be so fun!" state.)

1~Leaving the Island

Shit shit shit shit shit! I'm in for it now! Oh, why did I have to hit that stupid idiot?! Morgan's son! Of all people to hit on this Marine Base island. Well, he deserved it. He provoked me to hit him, saying I was a no good slut of a girl who will never make it in life due to my condition. So, I slugged him. Right in the nose. I think it broke, but I couldn't be too sure with all the blood pouring from his face.

The condition I speak of? I'm a Neko. No, I didn't eat the Devil's Fruit, I was born this way. It's so strange how things work. Yeah, I have the ears, tail, and claws, though I keep those filed down. I keep my ears tucked in a cap, and my tail curled up and hidden under my knee length skirt. 

Everyone on this island knows what I am and they won't let me leave the island, saying that I'll only cause problems and destroy the world or something. Idiots.

So, back to my current situation with punching Helmeppo in the face, I'm running for my life from the Marines he sent after me. Not a good way to spend my morning. They know all of my hiding places, so I have no where to go and no where to hide.

My parents abandoned me and left the island. They are the ones who started the rumor of me causing catastropic events if I leave. What a bunch of bull-

"Elmira Hojosen! Stop running and face your punishment for assaulting Helmeppo!" A Marine chasing me shouted. I snorted. As if. That little piece of shit deserved it. Now, where did I stick my katana blade? I know it's somewhere near the main square. Yes, I'm thinking about my katana and not the people chasing me. I'm already at least fifty yards ahead of them; I'm not worried.

I ducked into an alley way and hid in the shadows of boxes and crates. The Marines rushed past me in a display of swords and multiple gun sizes. The weapons clanked together as they ran, letting people know that they should get out of the way. Once they got a distance away from me, I slowly stood and backed up into a door. I twisted it open and walked in backwards, still on my guard.

"Well, look who got in trouble again." I stiffened as I closed the door at the sound of the voice. "Mira,"

I spun around. "Eep! Oh, it's just you." This "you" I'm refering to is a woman with an adorable child who run this small bar-like place. Ririka and her daughter, Rika, stared in my direction. At the counter are two boys. One has a straw hat and black hair. He's wearing ripped blue knee length shorts and a red vest. He's snarfing down food like there's no tomorrow. The kid next to him has pink hair and glasses. He's staring at the other guy in wonder as to how much food he can eat.

"What did you do this time?" Ririka asked.

"I kinda sorta not so accidentally punched Helmeppo in the nose and it might have broke." I explained in brief. She's the only one who actually knows what I'm going through. She's been like my guardian.

She sighed heavily. "Why did you punch him?"

I held up my hands in defense. "It wasn't entirely my fault! He called me a no good slut! I've never even had my first kiss yet!" The kid with the straw hat stopped eating, but I barely noticed him as I continued with my rant, tears running down my face. "He was going off on how I was never going to be a reliable woman and that I'll have my heart broken over and over because of my condition. He said I was never going to be the perfect woman because of who I am. It's not my fault I'm born like this!"

My dark purple hair comes to my waist and has natural pink highlights at the ends. My topaz eyes stared down at the floor as I fought to stay calm.

My body was quivering with rage and sadness as his words crashed down on me. "He's the worst person on this God damned planet! I wish he'd just die! Him and his father!" Before anyone could move to comfort me, I ran from the bar in a blind fury. Anger and sadness swirled around inside of me. Anger for what I am and for my parents leaving me. Sadness because no one will ever accept me for me and not how I look or act.

In my attempt to run from the bar, I ended up crashing into the Marines. The one I ran into smirked. "Got you." So, I was arrested and tied to a post next to Roronoa Zoro, the pirate hunter. I blew a strand of hair out of my face.

"So, been here long?" I joked. We've sort of kind of become acquaintances when he came to this island before he was arrested. He's the only one who doesn't know about me being a Neko.

He shrugged. "Long enough. Should be able to get out of here sooner or later." Was his response.

I nodded. "I see. Life been treating you nicely?"

"I guess. You?"

Shrug. "Sure, if you count me punching Helmeppo in the face and breaking his nose good."

He snorted. "What the guy do this time?"

I lowered my head. "Called me a no good slut." Silence.

"That's it? I woulda done it for a lot less."

"Yeah, and he's probably hiding in the base and complaining to-"

"Hey! I thought I told you I wasn't going to join your stupid crew!" Zoro shouted to someone, cutting me off. "I already told you that I'm gonna stay here for a month to prove to Helmeppo that I can stay alive for a month without food."

I looked over to the wall and saw Straw Hat guy again. He had a very determined look on his face. I rolled my eyes. If he's willing to do that, there's no way he's going to join this random kid.

"I'm getting you out of here." He stated as he began to untie him. "Helmeppo lied. He doesn't intend to keep his promise."

I gasped through my nose and Zoro stiffened. "So, if I get you out of here, will you join my crew?" He asked.

"Yeah, but I can't leave without my katana. It's my treasure." Hold up, did he really just say that? What the hell is going on here?

"Treasure?!" Straw Hat said excitedly. "I'll get it for you!" He turned towards the base.

"Hey! Straw Hat!" I called to him.

He turned his head. "Hm?"

"How do you plan on getting in?" I asked with a smirk on my face. "It's heavily guarded. There is no way you can get in."

"Hn!" He rolled his shoulder. "Like this. Gomu Gomu no.... ROCKET!!" My eyes popped out of my head when he stretched his arm and grabbed something and flew off into the air.

I stared after him in amazement. "That was so awesome! It's like he's made of rubber! Hey!" I called to the pink haired kid. "Who is that guy?"

He gave a small smile. "His name is Monkey D. Luffy. He's gonna be the pirate king!"

"So, he's a pirate? And he travels the world to find One Piece?" He nodded and I beamed. "Interesting."

"What do you mean 'interesting'?" Zoro asked as the kid seemed to tangle his fingers in the rope.

"I'm not allowed to leave this island because of a rumor my parents spread before they abandoned me." I explained.

"Abandon? Why would they do that?" The kid raised an eyebrow.

I snorted. "I've been hearing different rumors about me for I don't know how long. I don't even know what's true or not." I sighed heavily.

"Man, that sucks." Pinky mumbled.

"I think it makes sense." Our heads snapped up to find Morgan standing there with Marines holding up their rifles. "You are a disgrace to this world. You and your condition should never be allowed to leave or live." They cocked their rifles and I growled at them. "I'll start with you then Roronoa Zoro."

"Ready!"

"Zoro, I have one thing to say to you before I die."

"Aim!"

"And what would that be?"

"I used one of your katanas to pick my teeth."

"FIRE!" "WHAT?!" They shouted at the same time and I closed my eyes.

I waited for the bullets to pierce my body, but nothing happened. "Guys, did you order slow bullets or something?" I asked sarcastically. I opened my eyes and saw most of the Marines lying on the ground with blood pooling around them. Along with Luffy standing in front of me.

"Who are you?!" Zoro shouted at him and I rolled my eyes. Pinky already told us, baka.

Straw Hat turns to Zoro and says. "Monkey D. Luffy and I'm going to be the Pirate King."

***Skipping the fight scene so I can get on with the rest of the story***

After the battle with Morgan, Luffy and I had to drag Zoro back to Ririka's bar. He'd nearly passed out from the lack of food. Luffy was telling him about all the different food as we went. I don't think Zoro really cares at the moment; he just wants to eat.

When we finally did get back, Zoro and Luffy instantly dug in to the food Ririka provided. I was barely starting on my first plate by the time they had a small pile of plates beside them. I think I even saw Luffy ingest an entire plate.

"It looks like we've gathered a small crowd," Ririka chuckled as she brought out more food.

I glanced over to the door. "No kidding." People were trying to peak in through the door and windows to get a look at the gluttons.

I glanced over to Luffy as he continued to shovel food into his mouth. "So, Luffy. You're a pirate, right?" 

He gulped down a massive slab of meat. "Yeah, why do you ask?" He burped.

"I was wondering if you would like an extra set of hands on your crew." I picked at my food, waiting for an answer.

He set down his fork and closed his eyes in thought. "Hmmm... Let's see... I need a musician, a cook, a navigator, and a doctor. Are you any of those?"

"Uh, well, um... no." I stuttered. "But I am decent with a sword!"

"I already have a swordsman!" He slapped Zoro's back just as he was taking a bite, causing him to choke. "Whoops, sorry!"

As those two bickered a bit, I began to panic a little. Come on, Mira. Think! What can I say to get him to let me join? I have to be careful with what I do say so I don't give away my condition.

An idea popped in my head. "Luffy!" I claimed his attention again. "I can also grow my nails out! Watch." I held out my hands and willed my nails to grow a bit.

He awed at them. "So cool! What else, what else?" He bounced in his seat.

"Well, I can grow them out about two inches." I demonstrated. "I can even control how sharp and how durable they are. Only downside is that to shorten them, I gotta bite them off."

"Neat!" He picked his fork back up. That didn't do it.

My eyes widened as he shoved a fish fillet into his mouth. "I can also fish pretty well!"

"You're in!" I jumped back a bit as his hands slammed down on the counter. "Welcome aboard!"

"That... that's all it took?" I questioned as he scarfed down more food. "All I had to say was that I could fish and you'd let me join?"

"Do you not want to come with us?" He asked around a bite of food.

"Sorry! I do! I'll shut up! I just really want off this island!" I can't believe it was that simple...

I glanced over to the pink haired kid. He's been quiet this entire time. "Hey, Pinky."

He glanced up when I addressed him. "Oh, uh, it's Koby."

I nodded. "Right. So, what's your story? Are you also part of Luffy's crew?"

He smiled. "Ah, no. Actually-"

He was suddenly cut off as the doors opened. The Marines had found us. "Is it true that you guys are pirates?" One stepped forward; Lieutenant Ripper.

Luffy grinned. "Yeah! We just gained two members and became a crew just now!"

Ripper lanced his hands behind his back. "We appreciate that you saved this base and the island from the tyrant. However, now that we know you're priates, in the name of the Navy, we cannot stand by quietly. You will leave this town at once! Out of obligation, we will not contact headquarters." Guess that's our cue to leave.

"Hey, how can you talk like that?!" A townsfolk shouted from outside. "Even you guys were subdued and frightened of Morgan!"

"We owe these people our lives!" Another joined in.

Luffy grinned. "Well, guess we should go. Thanks for the food, lady!" He called to Ririka as we stood.

"You guys are leaving already?" Rika said with a pout.

I knelt down and gently pat her head. "Don't worry. We'll see each other again sometime in the future." I stood and began to follow Luffy and Zoro out.

"Hold it!" Ripper snapped and stopped us. "Not so fast, Elmira. You have to stay here."

"Why do I have to stay?!" I hissed. "He's already agreed to let me join!"

"You know the reason," He lowered his head and grabbed my shoulder. "We can't allow you to leave. Sorry."

"Why can't she leave?" Luffy asked.

"Because she's a-" I got right in Ripper's face.

"You say one word about that and I'll personally kill you." I threatened. Every one of the Marines gulped.

I shrugged out of his grasp and headed for the town square. I'm still going with them, no matter what. On my way out, I had whispered to Luffy to wait for me. I had to grab my katana; there was no way I was leaving that behind. I found it under a rock near the fountain, then strapped it to my waist. Once I was set, I headed for the docks.

Koby was there saluting the pirates. Luffy spotted me and I gave the set sail signal. As the boat started to pull away, the Marines did a group salute and I took off running at full speed. I slipped right through them and ran down the board walk. "Stop her!" They shouted. Luffy and Zoro were already a fair distance out, but I can use my cat reflexes to reach them.

"Elmira Hojosen! Stop in the name of the law!" No! I have to make it out to sea! He's my only way off this damned island! I can't stay; I won't stay here another day!

Feet pounded behind me and I pushed myself to go faster. At the end, I used all my might and sprung off the very edge. I soared through the air with a grin. I was going to make it. I landed perfectly on the boat. It didn't even sway at the extra weight. I turned back to shore and watched the Marines as they scrambled to go after us. I stuck my foot up on the edge.

"Lieutenant Ripper!" I shouted as loud as possible. He stopped and looked at me. "I'm going to prove my parents wrong! I'm not a disgrace and I'll prove that! Mark my words! No catastrophic event will ruin my voyage of freedom!" He shouted something to me, but it got lost in the wind.

I turned back to Luffy and Zoro. "So, where to next?"
