Aahotep's Pov

I was back in my room. The familiar surrounds of red walls and the faint scent of musk made my body feel at ease instantly. No matter how beautiful the outside world was nothing could come close to the comfort you felt in your home.

I threw myself on the bed and sank right into it, my muscles relaxing against the soft cusion.

I let out a chuckle as I recalled what had happened a while ago in Neith's room. She was still a kid. Ah, I had such a good laugh after such a hectic day. She could cure any bad day I had.

I stared at the ceiling which shone with brilliant, vibrant colors against the flames of the torches that lit the large room. Tiny crystal like jems that were embedded onto the walls of the ceiling were the reason for this magnificent sight.

I felt nostalgic as I gazed longing at it. I felt memories of father pass by me. The room was a gift he had prepared for my coronation. I wasn't allowed near the room until things were complete. Even after Aten had claimed father's life I never entered it. I wanted to respect his wishes as this was the last thing I had received from him.

My father had a vision. He wanted to bring about peace between the neighboring lands and his. He actually had a plan in mind but died before he could execute it. Now that I have taken over his place its my duty to see to it that it would be done.

His plan was to have a peace treaty. Before this could happen he needed to be on good terms with the rulers of the neighboring lands.

He was able to bring about an understanding with the other countries to a certain extent except the Hitties. After his death I continued to strengthen the bonds. I was sure that in about another five or so years I would be able to approach them with the treaty but I had run out of time. I couldn't risk another attack from the Hitties. It could easily trigger another war.

If a war broke out again then these countries would have to choose sides. This would destroy all of the hard work my dad and I had put in. On the other hand to approach them so soon might also not work.

I rolled about for a bit trying to think of a solution, but nothing came. Why did things always have to be complicated. After a while of brain storming I finally gave up .

I was about to shut my eyes before the front door of my room flung open. I sat up startled and immediately became angry. Who in the world dared to enter my chamber without permission?

I looked in the direction of the door, ready to yell at this mad man. Upon seeing the person I just sighed instead.

My mother walks in graciously, not at all concerned about the deep furrow that settled in my brows.

''So you have returned back from your journey and didn't bother to come meet your mother,'' she said, one eyebrow raised as she looked at me with disappointment.

Damn, I had forgotten to see her. Whenever I returned from any sort of voyage I always made it a point to go see mother. But this time I completely forgot with everything that had happened.

''I'm really sorry mother, I had intended to but I was so tired and had a lot on my mind that I forgot,''I say, trying to look apologetic.

''Did something bad happen?'' she asks, her tone immediately changing. She voice laced with concern and worry.

''No, nothing I can't handle. I will come talk to you in the morning for now I would like to rest,'' I lie. She would worry too much if she knew I was troubled.

''Mmm... Ok, but come talk to me as soon as you can. Besides I have a few things I want to speak with you too,'' she said and with that she left the room, before I could ask anything else.

What did she want to speak to me about? I fell back on my bed unable to bear the fatigue any longer. I closed my eyes and drowned in the darkness that consumed everything around me.

I woke up the next day later than usual. I felt much better after getting a good night's rest. I was served breakfast after which I soaked in the some cold water. One of the joys of being a Pharaoh was you always get to have nice cool baths.

I finally managed to pull myself after my skin started to wrinkle. I dressed up and headed to meet my mother. I had an idea of what to do about the treaty but I needed to discuss it with someone first. I would do that after I had met my mother.

She was seating in the garden and feeding the fish in the pond. I walked up to her in hopes of giving her a surprise.

''Did you sleep well?'' she asked without even looking up. A little disappointed that I couldn't sneak up on her I took a seat beside her.

''Yes, I did. What about you?'' I asked.

''I slept pretty well too. Do you know I actually made a new friend? I have been spending some time with her recently since you're to busy nowadays,'' she said, looking up at me. Her eyes sparkling as she said it.

I frowned, '' Who is this new friend?'' I asked immediately jumping on defensive mode. This person could be a spy or some sort of assassin.

''Did you verify their background? Who is it? Why would you want to befriend anyone? Don't do things like that without consulting me,'' I said getting slightly angry and probably a little jealous too.

''I don't need your permission to talk to my daughter-in-law,'' she said finally looking up from the pond. She looked like she was stifling a laugh.

It took me two seconds to realise who she meant. When did these two ever have a conversation?

My mother had no idea of the terms under which we got married. I hope Neith didn't let anything slip up. I would never hear the end of it then.

''Oh... so how did you like my wife. Adorable isn't she,'' I said, trying to sound as genuine as possible.

''Yes she is. Absolutely a sweet child. I see why you fell for her. I do have one question though,'' she said looking straight at me. My heart must have jumped out of my chest at this point.

''What is it?'' I asked, trying to play it cool. My mother could always find out if I was lying. So I had to be extra extra careful.

''Did you force Neith to marry you?'' she asked calmly, way to calmly. I froze, my heart stopped beating.

How... how did she know about it? Did Neith tell her something? I composed myself. She wouldn't have... right? I took in a deep breath. This wasn't the time to freak out.

''Of course not! Why would you ask something like that?'' I asked, trying to look offended.

The thing was I had married Neith to protect her, nothing more. If people knew that she was my wife they wouldn't want to kill or harm her. If word got out that it was a fake marriage then the purpose of marrying her would be defeated. So I had avoided telling my mother the truth. The only person who knew about this was Ammon. Not even Abu knew but I suspected he might have guessed it.

''Don't look so offended, I just got that feeling from Neith, that somehow she doesn't like you. I might have read too much into it I guess. She is probably nervous so maybe she came off like that," my mother said.

''Its, because I had to leave her during our wedding day and go. She's probably upset about that,'' I say, trying to fix this situation.

''Mm... I guess that makes sense too. Don't abandon her next time. Now go and pacify your wife,'' she said giving me her usual cherry smile. I gave my mother a kiss on the cheek and went to meet Neith.

I didn't bother to go to her room. I knew she wouldn't be there. I headed straight to the training area. I was beyond angry. I had told her to be careful while speaking to other people. She could at least act as though she liked me. Was it really that hard to do? As I entered the large room like structure, I saw her back facing me. She was in so much trouble and I'll make sure nothing like this ever happened again.
