My Reaction After Watching the TV Series
My Reaction After Watching The TV Series
Last June 22 to 28, 2022, I visited the set of The Girl He Never Noticed, in different locations, and witnessed before my eyes how the actors portrayed their roles and how the production team did their tasks. But all I had seen in person was incomparable to the finished product.
On September 20, 2022, I watched the first four episodes on the MeWatch app with my husband and daughter, Nicole. We were in the living room in front of our TV, with popcorn and a box of fresh pizza. It was like our usual movie night at home.
Mixed emotions overwhelmed me as we watched the series. I was anxious, but happiness and excitement overwhelmed me as I expected in seeing my book and characters come to life.
I jumped with joy when I saw my name in the intro credit. My husband and daughter congratulated me again for the nth time, showing how proud they were of my achievement.
The first meeting of Jade and Eros in episode one is so cute! The two characters bumped into each other in the coffee shop. Eros was arrogant and rude, so typical of him, while Jade looked really annoyed. It was the scene I looked forward to the most, and the one I told the production team when they asked what scene that me and the readers wanted to see most in the film. I'm so happy that the production team made the scene so extra!
The last four episodes aired yesterday, October 4, 2022. I was alone in the living room when I watched it. I could concentrate well and felt every scene. Yeah, I cried, especially in the last episode.
After watching the eight episodes, I'm able to react well. Yes, the chemistry of Marco Gumabao and Tess Pang, as Eros Petrakis and Jade Collins or Jade Aquino-Ong, are amazing. They portrayed their roles naturally, like it was so real. It showed how excellent they are as actors and actresses.
Eros was so grumpy and arrogant. But it was hard to hate him, because he's so handsome, hot and funny. He also showed his vulnerable side, that he's not perfect despite his good looks and wealth. He had some struggles too, which is keeping up with his father's expectations of him. I like the scene of Eros best where he was violent in his room, throwing things from the table. It happened after Joseph filed a complaint against him and he got arrested. I felt like... that's so Eros!
Hands up to Tess as Jade. She's an excellent actress and delivered her lines very well. It also helps that she grew up in the United States and speaks fluent English. I'm very impressed with her acting in a scene where Zion got lost. She was running the streets looking for him everywhere, and her expression was in panic. She really moved me to that scene and made me cry.
Donovan Grant, Eros' bodyguard in the book, is middle-aged, but the production made him younger in the series. The actor who played the role was Ebi Shankara. He made Donovan's character shine by being funny and lively. I like most the scene when he was at Jade's house, where he played with Zion. It just showed how kind and caring his character was.
Bridget Fernandez, in the role of Mrs. Changley, is so brilliant. She gives motherly energy to the story, especially the scene where Mrs. Changley and Eros had a bonding moment in the coffee shop. They were so cute together, having fun in making coffee. It also showed the development of Eros' character in opening up to others.
The boxing scene of Eros and his father, Markos Petrakis, exceptional. I never expected that! Two Petrakis men in the ring fighting. The scene made the story so intense. It showed how strong they were. The scene showed Eros should work hard to prove his worth in running the company for his father.
Same with the boxing scene of Eros and Joseph. It made me feel so giddy watching two men fighting over Jade. I could really feel their will to win the fight and to prove who is the better man for Jade. Like they said, may the best man win.
The bar scene was so hot! The intimacy between Eros and Jade was brilliant. They showed how strong their attraction is for each other.
My daughter Nicole also had a cameo in the bar scene as Eros' (ex)girlfriend. You can find her in Episode 5.
It was a little exposure but she's very happy about it. I'm so proud of her. She did too much by taking most of the photos and videos for the Wattpad promo of The Girl He Never Noticed.
Yeah, they made some changes to the series, because the production had to fit everything into eight episodes. What's important is, the essential parts of the story are still there. We can see the book and the characters come to life, and enjoy Eros and Jade's journey of finding true love.
Overall, I'm so happy with the outcome of the TV/Digital series made by Mediacorp and Stardust Story. They exceed my expectations, and did a brilliant job in the adaptation of 'The Girl He Never Noticed.'
