I woke one day to a familiar voice calling my name.
"Lucius?" I asked half asleep.
"Hello, Maya." Lucius said from the other bed in my room. The nightstand in between us which was once empty was now had a few magazines on top of it.
"What... what are you? You?" I stumbled over my own words as I sat on my bed, focusing on his face.
"I'm glad you remember me. Two months can be long." He said.
Two months. I had been trapped in Brooks Hospital for two whole months. For almost two months I've been shocked every day.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, confused.
"I'm going to tell this story one last time, only for you." He said as he lied down on his bed with one arm under his head. He looked at the ceiling as he explained what had happened outside the institution while I were trapped.
"Detective Aldrich ran away. People said that he got transferred. But I did my investigating, he first sent his family somewhere two weeks prior to his disappearance. Then, he went away without letting anyone else know. So a new detective came from New York or something. Detective Dalton is his name. I tried my best to work my magic, but he has no family in Portland that I could work with, you know? He soon knew about me and, well here I am."
"A psychiatric ward? Shouldn't you be sent to jail? What about a death sentence?" I asked.
"You're even more straightforward huh." He said with a smile.
"I acted insane so that he would send me here. I'd rather be in a hospital than jail." He said.
"I'd rather have a death sentence than shock therapy." I said.
"What? Maya? Shock therapy?" He asked in disbelief.
I nodded my head and felt the scars around my wrist which came from the chains of the chair.
"I still have some power with the people of the hospital. That's how I got this room. But shock therapy? I told them to treat you nicely. We need to do something about this." He said.
