vi

As I came home from work I noticed that Lucius' car wasn't parked in his driveway like it usually would be. I actually wanted to speak to him. Sure, there was no chemistry between us but talking to a person outside of work can be very refreshing.

I walked around the town for a while, made my dinner and slept on the couch while trying to watch a romantic movie.

I woke up to loud banging noises coming from outside. I sat upright on my sofa with my ears open, waiting to hear something again to prove to me that it's not just in my head. Then I heard a women scream something, I couldn't make out what she said but I was positively sure that I heard a scream.

I went near my window and looked at Lucius' house, his downstairs lights were on. It was 4 in the morning and his lights were on. I sat on the floor in front of the window, holding my legs against my chest but keeping my back upright in order to keep a look at my neighbour. Then I called 911 and told them what I heard.

The three minutes before the cops arrived felt like three hours. I tried to make out any movements in Lucius' house but with his blinds down, it was impossible for me to see what was going on inside.

I saw one policeman descending from a police car and buzzing Lucius' door. I then saw the policeman talk to him, although I couldn't actually see Lucious. The policeman soon disappeared into his house for about five minutes before he came to my home.

"Hello ma'am. I'm detective Aldrich. Did you call the police to complain about Lucius?" He said as he walked inside my home.

"I did call. I heard screaming and-"

"Yes, I know. I searched all over his house. I want you to know that I did not find anything unusual or out of order." He said.

"You checked his entire house?" I asked.

"Yes ma'am. I assure you that nothing is wrong." He replied confidently.

"You're saying that you checked the upstairs of his house without switching on a light?" I asked.

"What did you say your name was?" He asked as he moved towards me.

"I didn't. I didn't tell you my name." I replied.

"Ma'am, what is your name?" He asked.

"I want to see your ID." I said firmly.

He removed his ID card from his pocket and stretched his arm for me to take it. His face matched the man on the card. He was the head detective of the town.

"Okay. I'm Maya." I said, returning his ID.

"Maya, don't question things too much." Detective Aldrich said and left my house.
