„The guy in the window"

Our new house looked so different to our old one.

It was bigger than the one before and had a garden and even a swimming pool!

I had to admit that this wasn't so bad.

Let's hope that I would find friends here and then I could survive somehow.

We got out of the car and took our suitcases.

Dad paid the driver and the car drove away, leaving us behind.

For a few seconds we just stood there and admired the house, till Mom broke the silence.

"So... shall we go in now?"

She lifted her hand and rattled the keys with a little bit nervous smile.

I just nodded and took a few steps forward.

The others followed me, until Alex flew past me und up the steps to the front door.

"The first one will get to choose his bedroom!", he shouted without turning back.

I laughed and followed him inside.

To be honest, I didn't pay attention to the living room and kitchen at first, because I ran up the stairs excitedly to find myself in front of three empty and dusty bedrooms and one bathroom to the right.

"I'll take this one!", Alex shouted from inside the bedroom in the middle of the hall.

He seemed pretty satisfied so I guessed that he would have taken the best room.

Only two bedrooms left.

The one at the very left end of the hall was very big with a balcony, so I assumed this should be my parents' room.

Now I had no choice but to take the one between the bathroom and my brother's room.

I sighed.

At least I would be the first to be in the bathroom every morning, right?

My enthusiasm kept in its limits but when I slowly opened the already half-open door to my new room, I gasped.

It was three times as big as my room in Austria and it had a really big window where you could have a look at our garden and the house next to us.

I just wanted to look away, but I noticed someone standing in the opposite room and staring out of the window.

That wouldn't be that exciting, but he was staring at me.

My neighbour - I assumed that's what he was - was about my age and was quite cute though.

When he noticed that I was checking him out too, he smirked at me.

I blushed and looked away quickly.

After a few seconds I secretly gazed at him again but he was gone.

What was I doing again before I got distracted?

Ah yes, I was looking at my new room.

The sunlight filled the hole room with light.

There even was a pre-built walk-in closet in one corner!

I've always wanted to have a walk-in closet.

"I'll take this one!", I shouted happily and ran downstairs.

The others were busy unpacking their suitcases, they didn't notice that the door bell was ringing.

I went to answer it and opened the door, frowning.

„Hey."

In front of me stood a guy - about 14 years old - with a bright smile on his cute face.

His brown hair looked familiar and in his teddy bear brown eyes lay something which seemed to recognise me.

I was confused.

He handed me some selfmade cupcakes in a box and said:

„I'm Jacob, welcome in the neighborhood."

"Oh, thank you", I stammered and took the cupcakes.

"I'm Katharina by the way, nice to meet you", I quickly added.

Jacob smirked and that's when I recognised him, too.

He was the guy in the window.

How embarrassing!

My face started to turn red and that's when the moving van saved me.

Thank god!

"Mom! Our furniture is here!", I shouted over my shoulder and tried to hide my red face from Jacob.

"Oh, good news!", I heard my Mom saying and she came to receive the boxes and our car.

"Looks like there's a lot of work to be done", Jacob said and kicked me out of my thoughts.

"Yep."

"I would love to help you", he offered.

"Oh no, it's okay but thank you."

Out of a sudden, Mom appeared in front of us.

"Who are you?", she asked.

"Hello, I'm Jacob - your neighbour - and I'd love to help you moving in", he smiled.

"Oh that would be very nice, thank you!"

Jacob looked at me with a 'told ya so'-smile and I just playfully rolled my eyes.

I think my Mom noticed that we already kind of knew each other, so she said: "Jacob why don't you help Kathi get her boxes into her room?"

He nodded and we both went to pick up a box each.

.·:*¨♡ ♡¨*:·.

After two and a half hours we were finished.

I was very surprised to find out that Jacob was a master at putting beds and dressers together.

Now I only needed to unpack my things and make myself feel at home.

Jacob helped me with that, too.

We unrolled a soft carpet and put fresh sheets on my new double-bed - which my parents bought me as a compensation for moving to America, by the way.

Then we opened the boxes with my clothes and we filled in the walk-in closet.

I noticed Jacob blushing a bit when he touched my things, especially when we got to the underwear.

"I think you should put these into the closet", he said and blushed even more.

I laughed. "Yeah."

At some point we even turned on some music and put a playlist on shuffle.

We danced and danced while doing our work.

What I will remember from this day is that I had a lot of fun.

I think I just made a very good friend.
