Life As New Parents
"Shownu you have to get his head washed good or he'll get cradle cap," Kihyun points out, trying to let Shownu wash the baby but honestly his OCD was driving him nuts letting his husband do this.
It has been a whole month since their baby boy has been in their lives and the ride through parenthood hasn't been easy, but Shownu and Kihyun make it work. Being parents came to them naturally, they never once panicked, even when the new baby screamed his head off all night long. After a month of getting up all hours of the night, to diaper changes, to bottle feedings at two in the morning, they have welcomed their new statuses as mom and dad.
The baby was pretty calm when he was getting a bath, looking up at his parents with his little cat-like eyes he got from Kihyun. Shownu chuckles, rinsing the baby body wash off of his son and watching as his tiny mouth falls open and he curls his little hands by his face, "Does the warm water feel nice buddy?" Shownu coos.
Kihyun had noticed a change in Shownu, he went from that hard teddy bear to a soft pile of mush. Their son definitely has the bear-like man wrapped around his tiny fingers. Kihyun can't blame him, the tiny baby is adorable and seems like he's growing so quickly already.
"Alright, let's get him out before he pees on us," Kihyun giggles, "Or worse, shits in the tub."
"Yeah, I don't want to clean that," Shownu chuckles.
"You won't be cleaning it, I will be and I'll probably have to clean your puke too," Kihyun sasses.
Shownu chuckles and grabs the towel, allowing Kihyun to lift the baby out of the small tub and lay him in his father's arms. Shownu carries him to the nursery, laying him on the diaper changing table and immediately putting baby powder and a diaper on the squirmy baby. Shownu finds him a black onesie with a pair of blue jeans, handing them to Kihyun as he finished putting the diaper on him.
Kihyun coos, picking the baby up gently and while supporting his head, carrying him to the living room to let him do his tummy time. The doctor suggested that they introduce him to tummy time when he turns a month old for about ten minutes, mostly to strengthen his neck muscles more and to help release gas bubbles in his tummy if he just ate.
As soon as he lays the baby down on the soft blanket to do his tummy time, Changkyun whines and begins to cry. Kihyun shushes him, kissing his soft, wet hair that he just brushed, "It's okay baby boy, we just need to do your tummy time then you and daddy can watch a movie."
Shownu lays in front of Changkyun, the baby is very angry now and screaming his tiny head off as he lays on his tummy, "Hey babe, let's cut it in half this time because I don't think he likes this too well."
"He's not going to like it, but it's going to help him when he's older with sitting up on his own and holding his head up on his own," Kihyun replies, the baby crying louder after hearing his mother's voice. He sighs, "Okay, five minutes."
Shownu waits, encouraging his crying son as he laid on the soft blanket and cries. He did burp a couple of times and grunt as if he was trying to poop. Eventually, his time is over and the baby is gently picked up and held in his father's arms. Shownu kisses his chubby cheeks, the baby stops whining and chuckles, "You're okay little man, you did a good job. Shall we go show mommy you survived the horrible tummy time?"
"Mommy can tell with the crying finally stopping!" Kihyun calls from the kitchen, coming in drying his hands and smiling, "Is my baby fine now that he has finished tummy time?"
"I think he's fine now because he's in my arms," Shownu laughs, gently bouncing the infant, "Where's his pacifier?"
Kihyun hums, looking right at the bouncer and picking the blue pacifier right up, pushing it right between the baby's lips and immediately the baby starts suckling. Shownu carries him over to his recliner, sitting down and turning on the television. Kihyun sighs, turning back to the kitchen to start cooking dinner. This was their life.

Kihyun sits outside in the middle of the night, sniffling and listening to the crickets chirp. His son was inside screaming his head off, and he has tried everything. He has tried feeding him, changing him, singing and rocking him to sleep, but every time the baby is put down to sleep, he wakes right up and starts screaming before Kihyun can even leave. No matter what he did, the baby screamed and screamed.
The front door opens, Shownu stepping out and sighing, "Babe."
Kihyun sniffles, wiping his eyes, "I'm fine, I just couldn't sleep."
"Are you sure? I got little man to calm down," Shownu sits beside Kihyun, wrapping his arm around him, "Why didn't you grab a blanket. It's the beginning of April and you're out here going to get sick."
Kihyun giggles waterly, "You sound more like a mom than a dad," he leans against Shownu for warmth, "I tried everything to get him to stop screaming, and nothing worked. What did you do?"
"I literally just held him and talked to him until I knew he was asleep. Then when I knew he was, I swaddled him in his blankie then popped his pacifier in his mouth and he was out."
Kihyun's lip wobbles and he's crying again, Shownu pulls him into his lap and cuddles him close, "Now now, do I need to get your blankie and pacifier too?"
"Oh bite me!" Kihyun snaps, smacking Shownu's chest, "I feel like a horrible mom! I literally just left him in there crying and let you take care of him! What am I going to do when you go back to work and I'm stuck here unable to get him to stop crying?!"
"I know baby, I know it's hard but we got this. We knew that we were going to struggle, and nothing will be perfect, but as long as we have each other we can get through anything," Shownu whispers, kissing Kihyun's temple and forehead. Kihyun sniffles, looking up at him and Shownu just chuckles and wipes the tears off his cheeks, kissing him, "Come on, let's go inside and go to bed. He'll be on a schedule soon where he will sleep the whole night and if he doesn't I'll be right beside you helping you."
Kihyun pouts, "I love you," He leans up and kisses his husband, "I don't know what I'd do without you."
