Chapter 11
The surprising change of subject was a relief, and it felt as though the tension of the mornings decidedly serious conversations had lifted as I sat in the passenger seat of Prince's black BMW. Both subjects had been left on that purple couch and as he maneuvered the car through the streets of Minneapolis we reminisced about events involving the places we passed. Just over an hour after we left Paisley Park, he swiftly pulled the car into one of the parking stalls at my apartment complex.
"I haven't been here in a while," I'd been waiting for that slightly judgmental tone to make an appearance in his voice since we got in the car and it finally did as he pulled the key from the ignition, "I'd almost forgotten how much of a shi..."
"Hey!" His eyes caught mine as I shot him a stern glance over my shoulder.
"How interesting this place is." He finished, flashing me a grin that asked if that was more acceptable. Without another word we made our way up the three flights of stairs to my apartment. With a loud click the deadbolt unlocked and I motioned for him to go first.
"You know not all of us are rich musicians." My words punctuated by the heavy sound of my front door closing.
"Alexa, you know that's not what I meant." His response came as he walked through my living room taking in the minimalist modern design it currently has, decorated in mostly white and silver with a few large vibrant paintings providing a welcome pop of color in the small space.
"Yeah well," walking past him and directly into my bedroom, " maybe I should just stay at my 'interesting place'" I threw his own words back at him sarcastically from the separate room.
"Knock it off." His voice rang from the living room. I knew what he meant, this wasn't the nicest apartment complex in the city, but I'd lives here for years and the people here were good people and we had our own community it felt like. I'd grown comfortable here and I've never really been a fan of non-essential change.
Standing in my bedroom, my eyes studied the wall I had decorated with framed black and white pictures from my life: pictures of my childhood, of important milestones, of cookouts in the courtyard of this complex and even some pictures of Prince and I over the years and it really hit me what was about to happen. In a matter of a few days we had moved from friends to a couple...even my mind tripped over that word because it still seemed so foreign when applied to us. And now, for all intensive purposes, I was moving in with him. Albeit for a short while, just the next few months, but this was something I'd never done; I've never lived with a boyfriend, and I suddenly found myself with a knot in my stomach. Just as that knot threatened to overwhelm me I took notice of a picture of the two of us. It was taken just after one of his long rehearsals for the Lovesexy tour and I have the biggest grin on my face looking directly at the camera while his arm is draped over my shoulder and he is staring at the side of my face; his expression in that picture was something I'd never noticed before, not until the other night, when his face had shown the exact same expression just before we kissed. Shaking free of the knot in my stomach I walked over to my closet and pulled out my suitcase just as he waltzed into my bedroom and took a seat on the foot of my bed.
"I noticed you finally hung your degree up in the living room."
"Yeah." Throwing a few random items from my closet into the open suitcase on the floor.
"I know the perfect place to hang that." The statement caught me off guard and I looked to him.
"You don't think it looks good in the living room? Where would you put it?" I was truly confused by his statement.
"At Paisley Park." His grin was huge and I only rolled my eyes.
"I'm not moving in," looking away from him I moved onto pulling things out of my dresser, "I'm just staying for a little while."
"For now." His deep voice rang in my ears, bringing a small smile to my face as I turned into my bathroom. His persistence was nothing if not endearing. Milling around my bathroom, putting together items I would need for a longer stay with Prince than I had ever anticipated.
"Do you need me to help pack anything for you?" His voice mixed with the sound of drawers opening and closing. "Oh!" his surprised voice was punctuated by the sound of one last drawer closing.
"You ok in here?" I inquire returning to my bedroom with a full makeup case and a few other random items only to find Prince sitting with his hands folder behind his head, back against my headboard and his legs stretched out, crossed at his ankles. At lest he took his shoes off I thought to myself before I really noticed the look on his face. The grin on those lips could only be described as that of a child who just found a secret stash of cookies.
"Got tired of helping me pack I see." I joked as I threw a few final pieces of clothing in my bag.
"I was looking for your stash of sexy lingerie, but I couldn't find any."
"Yeah, I've never really seen the point in spending money on that stuff just to take it off after a few minutes."
"You've never had a man buy you lingerie?" He looked slightly shocked.
"No." My response flat as I watched his unchanging expression. Without a word he raised his right hand and summoned me to him with his finger. Kicking my shoes off I gave him a small smile as I settled in next to him, my head resting on a firm shoulder as the attached arm came around me, fingers trailing softly over my upper arm.
"I'm gonna fix that sugar." Familiar lips landed softly on my head. The soft moan which passed over my lips was my only response. "Did you get everything packed that you want to take?" He finally asks after enjoying a few moments of silence.
"I think so."
"I found something I think we should take." The smile was so evident in his words I couldn't help but shift so I could see his devilish grin.
"What?"
"I don't think I should tell you," he turned slightly and shifted down a little so we were face to face and his arm moved down around my waist, "you might not let me pack it."
"What?" Shaking my head in confusion. "What on earth are you talking about?" His free arm reached behind him and brought my purple vibrator around to lay on my thigh.
"That's a very interesting drawer of stuff you have in your nightstand." I could feel a deep blush moving quickly up my neck and across my face as he pushed the button, turning the vibrator on and running it along my thigh. "I don't think we'll need anything else I saw in there," his tongue snakes out to quickly run over those plush lips, "but we can always come back if we need." He trailed the purple colored devise up closer to my center as he pushed the button again, increasing the speed.
"And why would I need this if I have you?"
"I wanna watch you." His lips landed on mine quickly.
"Excuse me?" My face was beyond hot and my heart was starting to pound. Pushing the button again the vibrator reached its maximum speed as be brought it to my center, a small moan fell from my lips at the sensation. His eyes fell into mine and refused to release my gaze.
"I wanna see how you pleasure yourself." Our gaze finally broke as he landed a kiss on my lips, then my chin, my jaw and finally my ear. "Watch your face as you make yourself come." Without another word he pushed the button again, turning the little machine off and threw it down to my still open suitcase. "I think it's time to head home." That deep voice whispered against my ear and I could not agree more.
