TMoS Pt 2

Lena made her way up to Duck mansion. All week she had found herself in a rut, unable to think of new ways to get that penny. Her attempt with Donald hadn't exactly been ideal, and she couldn't ask her aunt for help because she probably wouldn't and just tell her they were all bad ideas. So Lena decided a break might be in order. She could hang out with Webby today.

She didn't even have to go to the door, because she saw Webby, along with Dewey and someone else she had never met, outside and climbing into a plane.

Webby's face lit up when she saw her friend. "Lena! Hi!" She waved wildly, a grin on her face.

Lena shot finger guns. "Hey Pink. I was bored, so I thought I'd come see what you're doing. Whatcha doing?"

Webby clapped her hands together. "Oh, we're going to this place called Ithaquack for... stuff. Wanna come?" Dewey waved at her from inside the plane.

"Ithaquack? As in Greek gods Ithaquack?" Lena smiled, actually liking this idea. "Absolutely! I love Greek mythology! Puffin Jackson is only the best book series ever!" She started bouncing up and down on her knees.

Dewey mode to stand next to Webby and whispered something to her. Lena barely made it out. "Are you sure we should take her? I kind of wanted to keep it a secret..."

Webby held up a finger. "Will you excuse me for a moment?" She took Dewey aside and they discussed something. Lena crossed her arms awkwardly, waiting for them to finish. What was all that about? A moment passed and they came back.

"Um, I guess you can come," Dewey said, very clearly avoiding eye contact.

"Oh. Thanks." Lena stiffened, wondering if she was imposing herself on their trip. But they said it was fine, so it was probably fine.

The large duck walked past them and stood between them and the drivers seat. He held out a hand to Webby. "Another passenger means more money." Webby dug in her pocket and came up with a 20. She handed it to him and he smiled. It was unsettling. Lena couldn't help but feel somewhat angry about the exchange she just saw. She would get that pilot back, one way or another.

Lena took a seat and pushed her bangs out of her face. I guess I'm going on an adventure today.

Skipping merrily, Louie Duck made his way down to the Waddle building. A wide grin spread across his face. A whole 24 hours without watching his little brothers! He could do whatever he wanted and he didn't have to adhere to them! No more "But this is boring, Louie!" or "That doesn't seem safe, Lou!"

At least for a day.

When he came up to the door, Owlson was already there, a few paper bags in her hand. Louie grabbed the door for her. She thanked him with a nod and the two walked in together.

"Hey green kid! Wasup!" She flashed him a smile. "You're just in time for lunch. Mark's been working on a little project. So what are you up to?"

Louie puffed up his chest. "I'm glad you asked. I'm an only child today, which means I can pretty much do whatever I want." He smirked, shoving his hands in his hoodie pockets coolly.

They stepped into Mark's lab, where he was hunched over his desk working on something Louie couldn't quite see. Mark sat up at the sight of guests. "Louie, hey! Just the kid I needed!" Louie beamed. Mark needed him for something?

Owlson dropped the food bags on the desk. "Lunch!" She handed him a drink. "Coffee, one cream and one sugar for you, and then there's hot dogs and glazed donuts in the bag."

He dug through the bag and pulled out two hot dogs. "Louie, you want one?" Mark offered.

Louie took it, eyeing it suspiciously. "Um... I've never had one of these. Is it good?"

Owlson nodded. "Yes, but the perfect hot dog has ketchup, mustard, relish, mayo-"

"Mayo? You put mayo on a hot dog?" Mark raised an eyebrow at her and shook his head. "No, don't listen to her. The perfect hot dog is plain." With that he took a bite of his and turned back to his project.

Owlson made a look of disgust. "This is why no one likes you. You're boring."

Louie decided to wrap his hot dog up and shove it in his pocket. He could split it with his brothers later- Which he didn't have! He was an only child and didn't have to share with anyone. Yup.

"Anyways, Louie, I was wondering if you could help me with this!" Mark moved his hand to reveal three small robots, each with a bulb for a head and varying in height. "These robots are designed to simulate sibling hood, and since you're a triplet, I was wondering if you could help me with a bit of research. They've still got a few bugs."

"Tell him their names."

"No, I'm not going to tell him-"

"I call them the Bulba brothers, and the Bulby sister. Oldest to youngest, it's Lil' Bulb, Jeremy and Spot. Aren't they adorable!" Owlson poked the smaller one, Spot.

Mark picked them up and moved them away from her. "They're simple experiments, so don't get too attached. Stop naming them." He turned back to Louie. "So? What do you think?"

"Well, I would be able to give my oldest sibling incite except today I am an only child!" Louie grinned.

"Wait, your brothers died?"

Louie's eyes window. "What! No! That's not- We made up a holiday where for the whole day we're 'only children'." He made quotations with his fingers. "Heh, no one died." As much as Louie knew. His brothers could've died while he was gone. Louie shuddered at the thought. Nope, his brothers would be fine without him. Today was his day, and there was no room for worry.

"Well, that's... interesting. Kids are weird." Mark handed Louie the tallest robot, Lil' Bulb and moved past him. "I have to go grab something real quick, but you can check out the robots while I'm gone. I trust you'll be responsible."

"Oh, I wanna go on a field trip with you!" Owlson shot her hand up in the air.

Mark rubbed the bridge of his beak. "I'm just going upstairs."

"Yeah, but I like hanging out with you."

Marks face turned red and he marched out of the room quickly. Owlson followed close behind him. Louie wondered what that was about. Huey always said he was bad at reading a room.

Louie shook himself and leaned one palm against the desk. "My middle name is responsible," he said once their was no one to hear. He wouldn't want Mark thinking he was a weirdo who said weird things. Louie set Lil' Bulb on the desk next to his siblings and smiled at them. "You guys are pretty cool," he said. He bit his lip, wondering what to do with them.

Without warning, Lil' Bulb picked up Jeremy over his head and walked to the edge of the desk. He looked as if he was about to throw him.

Louie held out his hand in front of them in panic. "Woah, dude! What are you doing! You don't just chuck your brother off the scale equivalent of a cliff!" Lil' Bulb dropped Jeremy with a clink and crossed his arms. Jeremy rubbed his light bulb head, glaring at the older one. Louie frowned. "Well, I think I know what bugs Mark was talking about."

Spot jumped from out of no where and tackled Lil' Bulb to the ground, her finger and her thumb in the shape of an L on her forehead. Louie face palmed and split them up. "What are you doing? This doesn't even count as sibling rivalry, you're just being horrible." Spot's bulb glowed brightly with anger. Lou set them back on the desk. "Now, say you're sorry."

The bulbs ignored him. Jeremy got up and pat his little sister on the head. Well that was somewhat caring. Sighing, Louie moved to sit in Mark's chair and leaned forward. "If you three aren't going to behave, then I'm going to have to teach you how to be siblings." He narrowed his eyes at them, making the robots stiffen. "Rule number one, I can't even believe I have to say this, don't try to kill each other!" Spot crossed her arms upset while her brothers nodded. "Good."

Louie pushed them together, making them uncomfortably close to each other. "Second rule, actually like each other." Jeremy flickered in disagreement and shoved his way out of Louie's reach. He jumped from the desk into the rest of the lab. Louie jumped to his feet to chase after him.

Once he had grabbed Jeremy, the other two were causing ruckus around the lab. Spot was playing with an electrical outlet connected to another desk and Lil' Bulb was pulling tacks out of a cork board. Louie ran to grab Lil' Bulb first with his free hand. "No! Stop!" With his elbow, he nudged Spot away from the outlet. Good thing he was there, or else Spot might've done something stupid. Spot kind of reminded him of Huey.

Wait, what if Huey did something reckless and Louie wasn't there to save him? Was he a horrible brother for wanting to be alone for the afternoon? If one of his brothers got hurt during their made up holiday, it was basically Louie's fault for agreeing to this. The green triplet began spiraling, panic filling inside him with each wild and ridiculous circumstance his brothers could be in that his imagination showed to him.

He took a deep breath to refocus. He put the robots together on the table, to which they responded by Jeremy kicking Spot and Lil' Bulb moving as far away from them as Louie's hand would allow.

"How about let's play a game. I tell you what role you're supposed to have, and you actually listen to me for once!" He took in a deep breath and pointed to each of them in turn. "Lil' Bulb, you're the oldest, so you have to look out for Spot and Jeremy. You have to make sure they obey the rules of society and make sure they' re not breaking any social norms. Jeremy, you're the middle child, so... To be honest, I don't really know what middle children do. They're kind of just their own breed of people. Dewey just chills. And Spot, as youngest, it is your responsibility to do the opposite of whatever the oldest tells you. So, just keep doing what you're doing."

The mention of Dewey made Louie wonder what the blue triplet was up to. Would he be safe without Louie? What if he was in trouble and had a panic attack? Louie couldn't stand the guilt if Dewey got hurt on his watch. Or more accurately, not his watch. I'm a horrible brother!

A flicker from the bulbs sucked him out of his fantasies. Spot seemed more than happy to oblige to Louie's instructions. Lil' Bulb on the other hand, seemed to not like the role of oldest. Which was crazy, since being the oldest one was amazing. "Come on, Lil' Bulb, you get to boss people around." Louie hoped the robot would find that cool. Sure, that didn't necessarily mean people listen to you, but it was still a nice perk. "Being the responsible one is fun."

Lil' Bulb shook his head and gave Louie a thumbs down. Louie huffed. "Fine, whatever, being stereotypical siblings doesn't matter. The point is, siblings create a little ecosystem. You all need each other, so quit being mean. Just use me as an example." Louie puffed up proudly. "I can't imagine myself doing anything without my brothers." He stopped himself. "Wait, I agreed to Only Child day. They need me! And I abandoned them!" Louie sobbed loudly and smacked his head on the desk. The bulbs eyed him awkwardly. Jeremy gave him a little pat on the head.

"Everyone's dead and it's all my fault!" Louie wailed dramatically, letting his fears consume him. "Why did I think this was a good idea!"

Before Louie could go on, a tree smashed through the roof of the lab. A loud girlish scream escaped the boy. He shot up and turned to face the tree.

"Hey Louie!" Huey grinned at his brother from the tree debris and rubble. Another boy sat in the tree too, but Louie didn't recognize him. Huey turned to the other boy. "Doofus, this is my brother Louie."

Louie caught his baby brother in a hug. "You're not dead!" He sniffled loudly. It sounded gross, but Louie didn't care.

"What? Why did you think I was dead?"

The green triplet quickly wiped away any remaining tears. "Uh, nothing. I have a confession to make."

"Me too!"

"I hate Only Child day!"

"I love Only Child day!"

They separated from their hug. "What?" they said in unison.

Evil laughter reached Louie' ear. He looked up at the hole in the roof to see a parrot boy who significantly looked like Mark Beaks. And most surprising of all, his feet were rockets.

"Louie, this is Boyd, a terrifying robot boy. He's trying to kill me."

Well, Louie couldn't be blamed for worrying when he was right.
