Hoo-Whoo Pt 1
Hey guys! This was something I've been working on for like a week as a side NaNo project. It's just DuckTales season 1 but rewritten with my Negaverse characters. If you don't know what the Negaverse is, it's just another dimension where everything is the opposite. (Not EVERYTHING but most things). This is loosely canon to my other story, The Other Side of the Known Universe. Here's episode one! Enjoy!
A seagull flew over the bay, sun shining warmly overhead. Louie Duck sat down at the edge of the docs, an ocean breeze blowing through his hair. He let out a sigh. He loved coming to the docs. It proved his one moment of peace. The one chance he could get away from the stresses of his life.
He was snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of his brother. "Louie! Where have you been!" Huey said. Louie got to his feet and turned to face him.
"I-"
"Haven't you been paying attention to the time!"
Louie glanced down at his phone. Shoot. 4:30. 30 minutes past their "curfew." How could he have let the time go so fast?
"Dewey's been covering for you at the house! Come on, let's go!" Huey said.
Louie noticed Huey's cap was on fire and put it out for him. Huey hadn't seemed to notice. Without another word, the two boys ran back to their living quarters. Louie wouldn't call it a home, because it was anything but. And it definitely wasn't a house.
Louie, Dewey, and Huey lived in a trailer park in the pits of Duckburg. Louie and Huey winced as they heard shouting coming from inside. The trailer shook with the sounds of their uncle squawking loudly.
Louie opened the door cautiously. He saw Dewey first, tail tucked and wide eyed. Next to him stood Donald, hands on his hips and an angry expression.
When Huey and Louie had stepped inside completely, Donald turned to them. "There you brats are. What have you been doing this whole time? Two kids alone on the streets. Are you asking for social services to come check on us?" he snapped.
Huey hung his head, while Louie mumbled under his breath, "Doesn't matter, it's not like they would actually do anything."
Donald raised an eyebrow at him. "What was that?"
"Nothing!"
"Alright then," Donald said, crossing his arms. "Listen, I'll be gone doing a deal with Panchito and Jose, so I want this trailer cleaned by the time I get back. No going outside, or else you know what'll happen," he said, pulling on a jacket. He shoved past Huey and Louie and opened the door to leave, giving them one last stern look before going.
All three boys let out a sigh of relief once he had left. Dewey rubbed his arm, and Louie noticed he had a new bruise on his wrist. The blue duckling caught his glance and pulled his sleeve down over the sore. Louie frowned.
"Thanks, Dewey. I owe you one," he said.
Dewey avoided eye contact with his older brother. "It's nothing," he said quietly, trying to hide his tears.
Louie shook his head and crossed his arms. "You know, some day, someone is going to put uncle Donald in his place," he said.
"It's not that big of a deal, Lou," Dewey persisted. "This is just how it is."
"No, it's not!"
Huey stood between his brothers, eyes wide. "Come on, guys, let's not fight. We've got to finish cleaning, so we can finish homework. I can't risk another F," he said.
Louie loosened up. "Alright," he said.
The boys finished cleaning up, making dinner, and doing homework. Huey had a bit of trouble with his, as always, but Louie helped him out. After that, all the boys agreed to bedtime.
The triplets shared a small bed to the side of the trailer. They squished in together, Louie almost falling off on the edge, Dewey squished in the middle, and Huey pressed up against the wall. Donald still hadn't come back, but that was to be expected. Louie didn't want him to come back at all. But he knew that was just wishful thinking.
"Hey, Dew. Why do cows have hooves and not feet?" Huey said, trying to fill the silence.
Dewey rolled his eyes. "Why Huey?"
Huey held in a laugh. "Because they lactose! Get it?" he chortled.
Louie smirked at his brothers. "Guys, it's getting late, let's just try to sleep," he said.
"Will you sing for us, Louie?" Huey asked. Dewey nodded hopefully.
"Guys, we should be sleeping."
Dewey smiled at him. "Please Louie!"
Louie looked between his brothers a minute before finally giving in. "Alright fine."
He started to sing them a lullaby. "Look to the stars my darling baby boys. Life is strange in vast, filled with wonders and joys. Face each new sun with eyes clear and true, unafraid of the unknown, because I'll face it all with you."
As he went on singing, his brothers started to drift to sleep. Huey kicked a bit in his sleep, which didn't really work in a small bed, but Louie and Dewey managed. Dewey also often had nightmares, but Louie could calm him down by stroking the feathers on his head.
Huey and Dewey fell asleep before Louie did. He stared up at the ceiling, frowning. His eyes wandered to his brothers. "Some day, things will get better," he said to himself. Things will get better.
...
Across town, Fethry Duck was flirting with the waitress at Hamburger Hippo. She giggled at his jokes and complements. "Ya know, maybe some time you could come see my mansion," he said, smirking.
She blushed. "Oh Fethry, it's such on honor to be in your presence. You've got yourself a deal," she said. After scribbling down something on a business card, she passed it to him over the table. "Here's my number."
"Then I'll see you around," he said, shooting finger guns. He got up from his seat and left a huge tip. Walking outside, he found the limo parked out front. He waved at it and stepped inside.
He slid across the seat, not bothering to buckle up. "It's a good night, LP," he said to his driver.
Launchpad smiled at him through the rear view mirror. "So I take it that the talk with the ambassador went well?"
Fethry nodded. "Yep. He left early so I spent that extra time chatting with the cute waitress."
Fethry was the most popular duck in Duckburg, which came with a lot of perks. Sure, he had no real relationships, but why spend time and energy building one when people will just give you love? If Fethry were to sum up his life in one word, it'd be perfect.

Louie woke up to the sound of sirens and and a hard knocking on the door. He sat up as his brothers began to stir.
"Police! Open up!"
Louie got out of bed and walked to the door. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he opened the door. A dog in a blue uniform stood just outside the door. Huey and Dewey watched from behind their oldest brother.
"Is this the home of Donald Duck?" the police dog asked.
Still not entirely sure what was going on, Louie nodded.
"And you are?" the dog pressed.
"Um... his nephews, Louie, Dewey, and Huey Duck," he said.
The dog crossed his arms. "Last night Donald was arrested for dealing drugs. We're here to inspect the home."
Louie gazed past him to see several other cops outside. He blinked a few times. Was this really happening? His tired brain made it hard to judge.
"Do you have any other living relatives?" the cop asked.
"None that we know of," he said.
Huey spoke up, "What about-" Louie slapped a hand over his youngest brother's mouth. As far as Louie knew, they had no relatives worth mentioning. Of course, Huey and Dewey didn't know all the details like Louie did.
"Well, if you want we can escort you to the orphanage, or you can go on your own," the officer said.
"What? You're not going to take us into custody or anything?" Louie asked.
"Look kid, none of us really want to be here, so let's just get this over with and move on with life," the dog said. The officer shoved past him, and Louie stepped out of the trailer. He glared at the man. He really hated this town's police force.
Dewey and Huey followed Louie out. "So, what now?" Huey asked.
"Will we have to live on the streets?!" Dewey panicked.
Louie thought over their options. They could go to the orphanage, but that would mean risk of getting split up. He knew his brothers couldn't make it without him, so no to that. That left streets or finding some of those "not so great" relatives.
Huey raised an eyebrow at the green duckling. "How come you didn't tell the officer about mom?" he asked.
Louie stiffened. "We can't go to mom," he said.
"Why not? She said she would come back for us."
Louie avoided eye contact. "It's complicated. But I can think of one person who could take us in," he said.
"Who?" Dewey and Huey asked in unison.
...
Huey beamed up at the building in awe. "No way! A mansion?! This place is huge!" he gasped.
Dewey shifted uncomfortably and folded his hands. "Are you sure we're allowed to be here? We could get in trouble," he worried.
Louie ignored them and stared at the door. All he had to do was knock, but something held him back. Multiple feelings mixed in his gut. Freedom from Donald. Uncertainty for the future.
"Louie, do you know how to knock?" Huey asked. That broke Louie out of his thoughts and made him laugh. "And I thought I was the dumb one," the red triplet said.
Louie took a deep breath and finally knocked.
A vulture opened the door. He stared at the triplets a moment. "May I help you?" he said.
Louie noticed Dewey was starting to shake a bit, so he took his hand. Louie gave a short wave to the old vulture. "Um, hi. We're Louie, Dewey, and Huey Duck, relatives to Fethry Duck. I'm sure you get this hoax a lot, with him being so famous, but we've recently lost our house-" Calling it a house made him slightly cringe, "-And we were wondering if he could maybe... possibly... help us out?" Louie gave an unsure smile as if to punctuate his point.
The vulture opened the door wider. "I will check with master Fethry, but in the meantime you may wait in the parlor," he said.
Before Louie could say thank you, Huey shoved past him and ran inside. "Wooh! Mansion! It's HUGE!"
Louie nervously tugged on the collar of his shirt. "Heh, excuse my brother. He's never been inside anything bigger than the trailer, unless school counts," he said.
Dewey squeezed tighter on Louie's hand, and he squeezed back to acknowledge him. The other two triplets stepped inside. The boys found the parlor and sat inside waiting.
Huey went around the room, touching everything and anything, while Dewey sat uneasily in his seat. Louie's mind wandered other places, like what the future might hold for him and his brothers. He would do everything in his power to protect them, no matter what. And though living with Fethry wasn't ideal, it proved the only option they had. If Fethry would even take them in. Louie doubted he even knew they existed.
The vulture opened the door to the parlor. "Master Fethry will see you now." The boys got up and followed the vulture up a long trail of red carpeted stairs.
They soon came to an office. Fethry sat at a desk, reclined back so that his feet rested on top. "These are the kids?" he asked.
The vulture nodded. "Thanks Bradford, I can take it from here." Bradford left, leaving the triplets and Fethry alone. "So, you kids claim to be related to me? And how exactly are we related?"
Louie spoke up. "You're our mother's cousin. Della Duck," he said, hoping to ring a bell.
"Della? I haven't seen her in ages! How is she?"
Louie anxiously fiddled with his sweater sleeves, tied around his waist. "We... wouldn't know. We grew up with Donald."
Fethry rose an eyebrow suspiciously. "Alright kid, anyone could come in here claiming to be related to me with some sob story. Give me proof you're my cousins," he said.
Louie crossed his arms. "Donald was arrested last night for drug dealing, which is exactly why we're here in the first place. If you want, you can call the police and ask them. And they will tell you there were three boys at the trailer when they came to investigate," he said, narrowing his eyes.
Fethry was taken back at such a quick answer. "Seems like you know your stuff. They called me earlier saying exactly that. So, I guess you can stay here, until we find a more permanent solution," he said.
Louie smiled, and his brothers did too.
"Plus, sheltering three abandoned orphans will look great on my profile," Fethry added, whipping out his phone.
Louie frowned. He should've known no one in this rotten family would do anything without getting something in return.
"I'll schedule an interview with the media right away. Just imagine the headlines. Local celebrity adopts triplets!"
Louie threw up his arms. "But you're not even adopting us!"
Feathry got up and walked past him. "Eh, everyone lies on the internet."
Louie glared after him, hands balled into fists. "Lying is anything but what a responsible adult should do."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say kid."
"You don't even care to know our names?" Louie questioned, tapping his foot.
"I'll just call you Little Donalds."
Louie hated to even be associated with that man.
"Feel free to roam around the mansion, Little Donalds," Feathry said, scrolling on his phone. Probably trying to find the number for the local news. He left the trip, ets standing awkwardly in the office.
Louie turned to face his brothers. "So..."
Huey bit down excitedly on his beak. "Louie, you didn't tell us we were related to the most popular duck in town!" he burst.
"Well, I didn't really want to, but we needed somewhere to stay and-"
Dewey cut him off in a hug. "Thank you Louie," he said.
Louie hugged him back. "I-it's no problem."
The triplets set off to wandering around the mansion, taking in their new home, even if only temporary. At one point, Louie thought he heard talking, a little girl's voice. He exchanged a look with his brothers, who seemed to have heard it too. They followed the sound to a room decorated in pink. A young girl sat around a small table with stuffed animals and a tea set. She sang loudly some song, but interrupted it with a gasp when she saw the boys.
"I'm sorry, I thought I was alone," she said, blushing shyly. "I normally am."
The boys stepped into the room. "It's alright," Dewey said. "We're new here. We sort of moved in."
The girl's face lit up. "Really! New friends! It's been so lonely here and all I have to keep me company is my Quackypatch doll." She got up to meet them. "I'm Webby Vanderquack," she said.
"I'm Louie."
"I'm Dewey."
"I'm Huey."
A/N Excuse my lack of knowledge of how police work. I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Thanks for reading!
