Chapter Seven
Giza Train Station
In this modern time, you would think traversing from Giza to Karnak would be quick. Instead Imhotep insists on taking an older, out-dated locomotive train. The need to stay on schedule has stressed the rest of the crew besides Meela, Lock-Nah, and Imhotep. So, in other words, they do not have a say in the matter.
The men who had taken Omorose reached the train, they had her wrists and ankles bound and she was gagged. Omo has tried several times to escape her captors before they bound her. She was unceremoniously dropped into a booth in one of the train cars. Omo wiggled to bring herself in a sitting position and came face-to-face with Meela. Omo's eyes narrowed, "Anck-Su-Namun." Meela grinned, "Princess." Omo didn't say anything else, just glared at the traitorous wench.
Meela gets up when three men enter the car with the chest they stole from Thebes temple. She led them to the train car that Imhotep occupied. Meela closed and locked the door behind them as Imhotep used magic to scare the men. She told the one that was not as smart as the others, "Open the chest. He wants you to open the chest." The guy rushes over to the chest and opens it, revealing Anck-Su-Namun's canopic jars. The men continued to try and get away from the apparition but it was no use. Each man was drained of their life force. While their bodies mummified, Imhotep's was restored completely.
Since Omo was trapped on the train car, her bindings and gag were removed. Omo was not going to show that she was scared, her face emotionless, staying silent, and trying to not be intimidated by Lock-Nah. This continues for a few hours. Omorose did not move a muscle, even when the train car's other occupants got rowdy.
She was also trying to resist coughing up another scorpion. Omo hid the coughing when the men would shout loudly. Finally, she felt the scorpion in her mouth and spat it into her hand while nobody was paying attention to her. She observed the coloration and noted the tail and pinchers were almost fully gold. Being a little vindictive, Omo set the scorpion on the floor and watched it scurry away from a few frightened men.
The train car grew quiet once the door at the other end opened. Lock-Nah stood from his seat on the opposite booth from Omo and was replaced by Imhotep. He speaks to Omo in their native tongue, "It is you who are the chosen one, you who will take me to Ahm Shere." Omo shakes her head, "What if I don't? What if I get a little...lost?" Imhotep smiles, "You always exuded strength. Your father taught you well. But I know something you don't."
Imhotep grabs Omo's wrist with the bracelet, "This bracelet is a gift and a curse. The sands of time have already begun to pour against you. From the moment the bracelet takes hold of your wrist, seven days do you have to enter the pyramid of Ahm Shere by sundown, and then" He pauses for dramatic effect, "And then it will suck the life out of you." Omo's eyes widened, "That's in six days time." Imhotep smirks at the scared girl, "Then I think it would be best if we don't get lost." Omo once again became quiet but couldn't hold back her look of fear as she shed a few tears.
Magic Carpet Airways
Rick, Evie, Ardeth, Damon, Stefan, Klaus, Elijah, Kol, and Bonnie approach a beaten-down hangar with the name "Magic Carpet Airways" painted on the doors. A wild-haired mechanic took one look at Rick and rushed inside and locked the door. "I see you've met," Evie sassed. Rick walked closer to the door, "You guys make sure we have everything. I'll deal with this guy." Kol held a smug expression while holding the Scepter of Osiris, "Sorry, mate. My hands are full."
Elijah snatched the Scepter from Kol and pointed to the cars, "Now, Kol." Rick drew his gun and shot the door handle. "Honey, you're not a subtle man," Evie was on a roll. Rick holstered his gun and kicked the door open, "We don't have time for subtle." The others were slightly impressed. Upon entering the hangar, the mechanic, Izzy, is pacing and upset. "Forget it, O'Connell. Every time I hook up with you, I get shot." Izzy starts revealing bits of Rick's past that Evie never knew, "Clearly, you and I need to get better acquainted." Evie and Izzy looked at the horrified face of Rick.
Rick slams a large stack of cash on the table in front of him, "We don't care of the cost." Izzy gestures to the hangar, "Look around you, O'Connell. What the hell am I going to spend it on?!" Klaus was growing impatient. He pushed Rick aside and grabbed Izzy by the collar, "Either you help us or I'll kill you and everyone you have ever known!" Izzy stares at Klaus in fear as the Hybrid's true face comes to the surface. He reluctantly agrees.
Rick was highly disappointed when it was revealed Izzy got rid of his airplane. They are now traveling by dirigible. Evie tried to placate those who wanted to travel by faster means, "We must follow their course. It is the only way Ahm Shere's location will be revealed to us. Hopefully, we're not too far behind them."
Damon, Stefan, and Bonnie have stayed together. Bonnie was still looking through her Grimoire, "I think I found something. The scorpions that Omo would vomit are slowly turning gold. Well, in Ancient Egypt, gold signified the Sun and the concept of immortality. Which is why most statues were constructed out of gold. While silver was associated with the Moon and used for the bones in said statues. Now, Lapis Lazuli was often paired with gold in the making of jewelry. Gold and silver were considered precious metals and played important roles in religious, social, and economic aspects of Ancient Egyptian society."
Damon cut off her rant, "Okay, but what does that have to do with Omo vomiting gold scorpions?" Bonnie smacked Damon, "I was getting to that. It's part of the reason she showed up now. Omorose is cursed to keep spewing these scorpions until she is bonded to those she's meant to be with." Bonnie looks over her shoulder to the three Mikaelson men that have been listening to the conversation. She cleared her throat, "However, the scorpions themselves, have another meaning. It's possible she's a descendant of the Scorpion King."
Train near Karnak
Omo couldn't sit still much longer. She fears she will not survive this endeavor. She glares at Lock-Nah. The man made her feel very uncomfortable. All of them did. She felt safe with the men she was taken from. Omo hopes they are looking for her. She wiggles in her seat again. Lock-Nah slams his hand on the table in front of him, "What's the matter, girl?! Need to use the bathroom or something?!" She remembered Evie saying the word "bathroom" and showing her the toilet and shower so she nodded her head. At least Omo may be able to lock herself in a room to escape the leering men.
Lock-Nah escorts Omo to the tiny bathroom, shoves her in, and closes the door. Omo locks the door and looks around. She is disgusted with the room but nonetheless she had no choice. Once done, Omo unlocked the door and returned to Lock-Nah's hold. She was going to hide in that room but the filth and smell was too much. She quietly sat and waited to reach Karnak.
Once the train stopped, Omo was shoved off the train by one of the men. She landed harshly on the sand but she didn't stay down. Omo got up and ran for the inside of the Temple of Karnak. Stopping inside a small room a little out of breath, the bracelet then gave her another image. Racing across the desert to the Temple Island of Philae, circa 2,000 B.C... In hopes the others were following her, she carefully constructed a sandcastle resembling Philae.
She left the room only to be levitated off the ground by Imhotep, "Well? Where to?" Omo didn't want to answer but knew she had to, "Temple Island of Philae." Imhotep set her down slowly, "Was that so hard? The men have been disciplined for their care of you. Until we reach Ahm Shere you are to be treated with care." Omo's eyes narrowed, "And after?" Imhotep didn't answer, just smiled and walked away. He still had to bring Anck-Su-Namun's soul back from the underworld and into her new body.
Somewhere Over the Nile
The dirigible floats high above the Nile. The group watched the sunset. Rick and Ardeth are busy locking and loading all their weapons, preparing for battle. Rick looks to Ardeth, "What kind of problems should we expect from our old friend?" "Imhotep's powers are weak but still quite formidable," Ardeth replies. Evie voiced everyone's worry, "We had better get to Karnak before they leave it, or we won't know the foggiest where to go next." Both Rick and Izzy reassure they will make it.
Evie forces a smile and heads for the bow of the boat near Bonnie, Stefan, and Damon. Suddenly, Evie's eyes start to glaze over and she goes into a trance. Bonnie notices this, "Uh oh." She puts down her Grimoire and stands next to Evie, but doesn't touch her, "She's in a trance. I'm going to see if I can see what she is." Bonnie chants a spell she had learned and lightly touched Evie and was sucked into the vision. Damon, Stefan, and Kol surrounded the two in case they needed to be pulled apart.
Bonnie and Evie could hear Imhotep chanting over a tiny sacred pool covered in fog. Meela is staring into it, her eyes going into a trance. Imhotep stops chanting and turns to Meela, "It is time to remind you of who you are." He waves his hand over the pool and a vision of Ancient Egypt is shown. They're standing in the pharaoh's palace. He continues, "And who we are together."
The vision shows two Egyptian princesses, their faces hidden by ornate gold masks. They engage in hand-to-hand combat. These are the same two princesses depicted in the Temple of Thebes. Imhotep and the pharaoh watch in great amusement. "For our love is a true love, an eternal love. Our souls mated forever," Imhotep voiceover was heard as the princesses fought expertly.
During the fight one of the women's masks was knocked off to reveal Princess Nefertiti. Which gains a gasp from both Bonnie and Evie. Evie is Nefertiti reborn. Soon, Nefertiti is overpowered by the other princess. She removes her mask and it's Anck-Su-Namun. They glare at each other hatefully. There is no love lost between these two. Anck smirks, "You have improved greatly, Princess Nefertiti."
Imhotep, Pharaoh and the surrounding people applaud as the two women get to their feet. Pharaoh steps forward, "Wonderful! Wonderful! Who better to protect the bracelet of Anubis than my lovely daughter. And who better to protect me than my future wife, Anck-Su-Namun." Evie and Bonnie catch Nefertiti watching Imhotep and Anck give each other knowing glances. Evie narrows her eyes in suspicion.
Damon, Stefan, and Kol continue to watch and wait for the girls to come out of the vision. The vision now shows Nefertiti leaning over her balcony observing the palace. She looks across the way to Anck-Su-Namun's bedroom and sees Imhotep and Anck embracing each other. Evie is shocked to see this, Bonnie not so much. She is used to this kind of behavior from Elena. What is shocking is the pharaoh entering the bedroom and being attacked by Imhotep and Anck.
The group on the dirigible is startled when Evie/Nefertiti yells, "Medjai, quickly! My father needs you!" Bonnie comes out of the vision at the same time Evie, still in the vision, lunges forward, screaming in anguish. Stefan and Kol catch her before she falls all the way over the side and pulls her back. Both Evie and Bonnie were trying to catch their breath. Bonnie says to nobody in particular, "All this trouble for love."
Rick was now holding his shooken up wife, "What happened?" Evie wasn't saying anything so Bonnie filled them in. "So? Evie is Nefertiti? That explains one of the reasons why she's in love with ancient Egypt," Rick comforts his wife. "Anything else, Miss Bennett?" Elijah asked. Bonnie clears her throat, "Meela is now Anck-Su-Namun. He pulled her soul from the underworld and placed it in Meela's body. But Meela's soul never left. So, her body is housing two souls. She may possibly go insane with the souls trying to fight for dominance." They realized that made Meela unstable and just as dangerous.
The sun was rising when they reached Karnak. There was no sign of Omo and Imhotep. Quickly searching the Temple of Karnak and finding they had missed them. However, Klaus found a small room near the sacred pool Bonnie described. Inside was a crudely sculpted sandcastle. He called for Evie, "I found this." Evie and Ardeth kneel by the sandcastle. Evie brushes the top layer of sand away, "Clever. Temple Island of Philae." Boarding the dirigible again to set off. "Hopefully, Omo can leave a trail of sand crumbs each time," Damon remarks. Elijah adjusts his cuffs, "Yes, hopefully."
