"Mason said it's not just to transmit frequency," my brother told us. "It's high powered. Like it has to be a really strong signal."

"And that's causing it to shift?" Lydia asked with a frown.

"No, I don't think it's just that," Scott interjected. "Last night Argent said that it's getting smarter. What if the Dread Doctors are trying to make the Beast grow faster?"

I raised my eyebrows, slightly confused by everything. "With frequencies?"

"No, by shifting," Scott corrected. "The frequency is just the trigger. The important part is when it shifts into the werewolf."

Lydia's eyes widened in realisation. "Like Peter."

"Right. Yeah, when Peter was an Alpha, he got stronger every full moon. Eventually, the burns healed and he was back to normal," Scott explained.

"So the Dread Doctors don't want to wait for the full moon," Liam realised.

"They want the Beast to be as strong as possible, as fast as possible."

My brother nodded. "Because of Parrish."

"So if this is happening tonight, what are we going to do?" Lydia questioned.

"Uh, we've got one clue to go on," Stiles held his hand up before pulling a picture out of his backpack. "This came from the hospital." He placed the photograph down, showing a bloodied footprint and a tape measure along the floor. "Whoever's lurking inside the Beast is wearing a size 10 of indeterminate make."

Lydia looked up. "Indeterminate?"

"Means, it's a partial print. Basically, it was all we were able to get considering all the fire, blood and carnage."

"How many size 10s are out there?" Scott asked.

"Only one with Parrish's blood on the sole," Stiles replied.

"So are we going to try to get the game canceled?" Liam asked, looking between Scott and Stiles.

"No, no, we're going to play, but we're just going to hope really hard that it doesn't turn into a blood-soaked massacre."

"Okay, but, um... " I trailed off before continuing. "Aren't we kind of missing out on a chance to catch this thing?"

"We don't have the 'who,' but we have the 'where' and the 'when,'" my brother continued.

Everybody looked up at Scott. "There's too many people."

"And we still don't actually know if it's going to happen," Lydia added. "It just might end up being a regular lacrosse game. It's possible, right?"

"That's absolutely possible," Stiles said.

Liam turned to Scott. "So we're still getting the game canceled?"

"We're getting the game canceled."

"I still don't know how to control this. What if something happens and I have to intervene," I looked between Scott and Malia, who shared a glance .

"We'll teach you control," Scott said. "I promise. But right now, we only have one chance to do this."

I nodded, biting my lip. "Okay."

"We'll help you," Malia spoke up. "I'll help you."

Scott nodded in agreement, giving me a soft smile. "You'll be okay." The others started to head into the room and I moved so I could sit down. "Mason, you know your part?" Scott questioned.

"Corey and I break into the Devenford bus and search their shoes," Mason replied.

Malia stepped forwards. "I take out the TV vans."

"Right before the whistle, Coach forfeits the game," Stiles continued.

"The rest of us are looking for a size 10 with a bloody sole," Liam finished.

"Just out of curiosity," Malia spoke up. "What if it doesn't work? What if we have to go up against this thing? I mean, I hate to bring up bad memories but Scott's still healing from what Theo did to him."

Kira looked up, shaking her head with a smile. "No, he's not."

"She's right," Scott said, lifting up his lacrosse jersey to expose his skin, fully healed. "It happened the night we got Lydia out of Eichen House," he smiled. "I healed. When were all together again, when we were a pack."

"The Beast doesn't have a pack."

Scott smiled. "Not like us. We can do this guys. No one dies tonight."

Coach decided not to forfeit the game. After half time, Stiles and I ended up behind the bleachers looking at people's shoes. He'd been attempting multiple times to check behind a girl called Sydney's shoe. It resulted in him getting hit in the face.

I bit back a laugh as he stumbled back, holding his head. He grabbed onto the side for support before completely falling over. I bent down beside him, slapping his face lightly. "Stiles. Stiles. Stiles!"

He groaned, blinking rapidly before taking a deep breath. "Ow."

I rolled my eyes. "I'll get you an ice pack." I helped Stiles sit up before jogging to the benches and taking an ice pack out of the tub. I headed back, chucking it at him, only for Stiles to miss and let it drop to the ground. He stumbled again, picking it up and holding it against his head. "You're such an idiot."

"Thanks."

A loud piercing sound suddenly filled my ears, making me wince. I clasped my hands over my ears until the noise passed and instead filled with growling. I glanced at Stiles, my eyes widening in terror. "It's here."

I caught the scent of my brother and ran forwards, pausing to see him running in the direction of the beast. "Liam!" I called out. "Liam, don't!"

Stiles appeared beside me, his breathing erratic. "Liam! Liam wait! Liam!"

My jaw opened in shock as my brother jumped, meeting the beast mid air. "No!" I lunged forwards, only to be pulled back my Stiles. "No, no, don't!"

"You don't know how to control your abilities yet!" He exclaimed, still yanking me backwards. "Kara!" He yelled, his voice lower than usual.

I spun around, facing him. Anxiety twisted inside my stomach and I could feel my whole body shaking in fear. My pulse was absolutely racing. "He's my brother!"

Stiles' mouth opened and closed and he started to stutter. "Y-your eyes."

I instinctively reached out to touch my face, worried about what was wrong with me. "What's happening," I breathed out, my hands flying to my head. "What's happening to me!"

"The shift can be caused by anything that raises your pulse," he reminded. "Kara, you have to calm down."

"I can't-" I choked out. "I can't breathe."

Stiles placed his hands comfortingly on my shoulders. "Hey, hey, listen to me-"

I shook my head, sucking in a deep breath of air. I glanced back at Liam and the beast, my chest still rising and falling heavily. "I'm done listening."
