"Page turner"
Malia and I both glanced up as Theo sat in the seat next to me.
"Not exactly" I mumbled.
"Neither is this" he held up his book.
I rolled my eyes and got back to reading my copy of 'The Dread Doctors'
"Hey, I'm gonna go" Malia told me after a while.
"Alright, I'll come with" I started to gather up my things and put them into my bag.
"Need a ride?" Theo asked.
"We can take the bus" Malia replied quickly.
"Last one left an hour ago"
Malia shrugged. "Then we'll walk"
"I've seen you come out of drivers ED" Theo stated.
"I hope not" She said.
"Pretty sure I saw you destroy a couple traffic cones the other day. And nearly take out a sophomore"
"The sophomore shouldn't have been standing there"
Theo laughed. "Sounds like you could, uh-" he pulled out his car keys. "Still use some practice"
He tossed the keys at us and Malia caught them one handed.
"You're not serious are you?" I asked my friend.
"What?" She said innocently.
"I'd rather walk"
"Really? But it's late" Theo commented.
I groaned. "Fine" I turned to Malia. "But only because I don't want you alone with this guy"
~
"So our emotional heart to heart outside the hospital didn't change your opinion on me then?" Theo questioned as we walked through the school car park.
"There were a mad few minutes where I thought we could actually be friends but then I realised that you're definitely not to be trusted"
"Fair enough"
"Oh yeah, I hope you don't get car sick"
Theo looked at me with a confused expression. "Why?"
I nodded over at Malia. "Her driving sucks"
"I can hear you, you know" she reminded.
I shrugged. "I know"
I reluctantly got into the back of Theo's car, cursing mine for being a piece of shit that is still being fixed.
I slid into the backseat, which actually was incredibly comfy, and put my earphones in, blasting my music.
I was only snapped out of my music heaven when Malia pressed down hard on the gas.
"Okay, I said a little faster" Theo said.
"Mals what the hell are you doing!" I exclaimed.
"Malia are you okay?" Theo asked. "Malia slow down" he reached for the wheel but Malia pushed him away.
I leant forwards. "Okay, Malia please just slow down"
She forcefully hit her foot on the gas pedal which sent me flying backwards.
"Malia!" I yelled.
"Malia stop!" Theo commanded. "Stop the car!"
"Malia stop the fucking car!" I screamed.
She slammed on the breaks, which almost sent me soaring through the windshield.
Thank god for seat belts.
Malia opened the car door and stumbled out, falling to the ground.
"Malia?" Theo asked. "Malia?" He repeated.
"I think I'm gonna be sick" I mumbled.
As I leant over, my hand on the car to steady myself, I heard the sound of a horn beeping.
"Malia get up!" Theo yelled desperately.
"Holy shit, Malia!" I ran over and grabbed her, just as Theo did. "Malia come on!"
The headlights practically blinded me but I used all my force to pull Malia away from the road.
The three of us landed on the floor in a heap.
My body was pressed against Theo, his arms securely around me.
I still held on to Malia, too scared to let her go.
"It was her" Malia whispered.
"What?" Theo and I asked simultaneously.
"It was her. She was here" she said breathlessly.
"Who? Malia who was here?" I questioned.
She turned to face Theo and I with a terrified look on her face. "The desert wolf"
