Chapter 15

I let the darkness consume me while my power crackles and pops in the air around me, like the static electricity you feel right before lightning strikes. Its a warning of what's to come. Wind starts to rush around the room, making a deadly storm that puts me directly in the center. The ends of my hair rise and fan around me, creating a halo out of the dark tresses. In the corner of my eye, I can see that the veins in my forearms, leading down to my wrists, have turned black under my skin. Slowly, my nails lengthen into deadly sharp points.

I turn my palms outward and thick, black smoke pours out of them. It crawls eerily across the living room floor, toward the demon. He only looks more delighted as he watches the chaos I'm creating.

"Now that's what I'm looking for," he yells excitedly over the howling wind.

A sadistic grin splits across my face, my dark red eyes, full of bloodlust. If its a monster he's looking for, then I'll give him one.

"Your father would be proud," he smirks.

The dense black smoke begins to climb up his legs and his smirk slowly fades. Panic flashes quickly in his eyes as he tries to step away from it. The smoke climbs higher, wrapping around his torso, and then slithering around his neck. His eyes widen and he gasps.

Thick, black blood starts to drip from his left nostril, and then from his right. It soon pools in his eyes and eventually streams down his cheeks. Even his ears leak the tar like substance. His head suddenly snaps backward and he lets out an ear piercing, shrill scream. The others in the room have to cover their ears to block out the awful sound, but I take pleasure in his pain. His words about my father are still ringing in my ears, a constant reminder of what he told me, which make me want to see him suffer.

I click my tongue against the roof of my mouth and shake my head lightly.

"God, you're loud." I groan in annoyance.

I snap my finger and the second I do, his screams turn into muffled yells, his lips now stuck shut by an invisible force. His hands claw and pry against his mouth, but I know that it's a futile effort. He squeezes his eyes closed in agony, wings flapping desperately behind him. It's a disturbing image that I can't seem to stop or look away from.

"Victoria, that's enough," Gabriel suddenly shouts behind me, his tone stern.

My intense red eyes snap to him and my sickening grin widens. My eyes slide over the horrified expressions of the others in the room. Noah and Cayden are standing next to each other, on the opposite side of the living room, with terror written all over their features. Their eyes are wide and their hearts are racing. Alpha Gage is standing near Gabriel and his expression is more shocked than afraid, like he just can't believe what he's seeing.

My expression falters when my eyes land on Zeke. His eyes are searching mine, almost pleadingly, as if he's looking for something. He's probably looking for the person, from just earlier, who saved him when he was seconds away from death.

Before anyone can blink, I transport myself so that i'm standing directly in front of him. He flinches back slightly in surprise, but stays still otherwise. The white hot anger burning inside me calms, while his mossy green eyes bore into mine. The wind in the room dies down, almost completely, and the muffled demonic yells fade into the background. I lift my hand and lightly run a sharp nail over his right cheek while I lean closer to him.

"Do you understand now why I told you to stay away?" I ask harshly.

His eyes dance over my features and he shakes his head. I eye him with a puzzled and stunned expression as he lifts his hand and brushes the back of his knuckles against my cheek.

He leans closer slightly and whispers, "Don't push me away. I'm not going anywhere."

When his words sink in, I jolt away from him as if they physically pained me. His words were so light that they could be mistaken as whispers from the wind, yet they somehow simultaneously held so much weight to them

I shake my head in disbelief. No, he needs to understand how dangerous this whole situation is; how dangerous I am. I'm not just some girl he can have a teenage crush on. I'm deadly. I could get him killed. He can't stay, even if I want him to.

I narrow my eyes at him, my anger resurfacing. Wind whips through the air and in an instant, I'm standing in front of the demon again. The smoke starts to clear and part to make room for me. As soon as he's releases from the invisible ties of my smoke and power, the demon pants and drops like a stone to his knees.

But, he doesn't get much time to catch his breath, because without warning, my hand suddenly dives into his chest to hold his beating heart. His body goes rigid, eyes turning wide as they slowly slide up to look at me and I stare in them coldly.

"When you get to hell, tell my father that I said he can piss off," I hiss at the demon.

Gabriel shouts something incoherent which I don't bother listening to. With a challenging gleam, my eyes move to Zeke. His expression doesn't give much away, but I do notice that his heart is beating faster than before. He watches me closely, waiting for me to make the next move.

With my eyes locked on his, I yank my bloody hand out of the demons chest, holding the heart in my palm. Instantly, his body bursts into flames that lick upwards, destroying everything in their path. I drop the heart into the fire, and watch with a stony expression as he turns into nothing but a pile of ash.
