#6: Aunt Mae

Uncle Lee, Taehyung, Jungkook, Jimin, myself, my brother's, and their boyfriends thankfully sat together, taking up an entire table to ourselves. Though at the beginning of lunch I was distracted by thoughts of my father, within a few minutes I was able to focus on the company I was sitting with.

I found out that Jimin has actually been living with Taehyung and Uncle Lee for a few years. He graduated with honors, and though his degree is in Medical Engineering, he worked for my uncle instead. I'm sure there is more behind the story of why, but I didn't want to pry if he didn't want to talk about it. When Taehyung made a comment about his father being an ass, Jimin got quiet and chugged the rest of his drink.

After the lunch we went our own ways. Yoongi and I actually went shopping, and I found a dress for this evenings dinner. Dresses were the only new pieces of clothing I could really buy lately because shorts, pants, and jeans were so expensive. They wouldn't fit me long enough and it was just a waste of money. The dress I bought was a bright cherry red. The part for the torso was tight and where my hips were the fabric was loose and wavy. It went down a little past my mid-thigh, which was a perfect length for a family event. The top part of it was a halter top, and the best part was it had built in underwire where the breast part was, with just enough padding where I didn't need to wear a bra. Which was ideal, since the back was open all the way to my waistline.

I had never really warn a dress like this before, so it felt good to look in the mirror and actually like what I was seeing.

It's a new thing for me.

Yoongi insisted that he looked better in red than I did, so he purchased a new button up dress shirt and black slacks for the dinner.

I'm not sure who looked better, but we were both looking great.

I went into my bag and found the pair of shoes I was looking for. They were a semi short heal, thick, and they strapped all the way up my foot and then about 3 inches up my ankle. They were my favorite.

Once I was ready, I put on the necklace that my dad gave me, the earrings Namjoon gave me for my birthday that matched, and the bracelet Jin gave me for my birthday that also matched. It was symbolic in a way. They were the most important men in my life, and the pieces of jewelry where small and simple. The necklace was a circle no bigger than the size of my pinky nail, and the chain thin. It is in the shape of a circle, with a very small design of a star, all in very small cut diamonds. The earrings Namjoon got me were the same shape just much smaller the materials the same. The bracelet Jin got me, that the same size pendant at the earrings, but there were three of them. It was not a loose bracelet thankfully, so the pendant was noticeable.

I loved them.

They were my most prized possessions when it came to material things. I curled my hair in beach waves, and put on some make up to make my eyes pop. I looked in the full-length mirror one last time, actually excited to go out like this. I felt confident, a feeling I was getting more of just not quite used to.

"Noona!" I heard Namjoon yell. "This is one of the fancy dinners, right?"

"Kim Namjoon what have I told you about yelling up the stairs?"

"Seriously?"

I scoffed. "Yes. This is one of the fancy dinners, you need to be dressed nicely unless you want Aunt Mae to make an example out of you."

I heard him mock a gagging noise making me laugh. I walked back into my bedroom, and checked my phone. I had a text message from a few of my typical hook ups, so I figured I'd send them a pic. I tried to get a good angle through the mirror, showing off a little thigh, but not too much, as well as just enough cleavage. Satisfied with one that I got, I sent it off and sat back down on the bed.

"Who did you send that to?" A voice sounded from my door making me jerk.

I turned and let out a breath throwing my hand over my heart. "Damn it Jimin, you almost gave me a heart attack."

The truth is, yes I did jump at his sudden voice. But what I was looking at was really what almost stopped my heart. He had a dangling earring, kind of like the one he wore the other day, black fitted dress pants, a dark charcoal gray button up, with silver lining to accent across the buttons and over the pockets, and shiny shoes that looked practically brand new. He was also wearing a touch of eye liner, making it impossible to not look directly in the eye, and his hair was parted and slicked back in the sexiest way.

"I'm sorry." He smiled, my heart dropping into my stomach. "I didn't mean to scare you, but I'm glad I did."

"Why?"

"I would have never caught you sending pictures. Who did you send them to? Is there a boyfriend back home I don't know about?" He stepped a little into the room, then leaned back against the wall his arms crossed, one ankle over the other, and an eye brow raised.

Just then my phone buzzed with a response from one of the texts. It read 'show me what it looks like on the floor.' I rolled my eyes. What was I expecting? He's a hook up guy and though, yes, I sent that to get a little attention, I was hoping for some form of compliment. That's what I get for fishing for them. I didn't respond and looked up, Jimin waiting for my response.

"No." I smiled. "Just a friend of mine who wanted to see my new dress."

"Is this friend a guy or a girl?"

"A girl." I smiled. Which wasn't a lie. I sent the picture to a girl I sometimes go have drinks with.

"You should send it to me." He smirked. "I'd love to have a view of this every day."

I laughed. "You're just being flirty again." I said standing up. I watched him look from my toes all the way to my face, and his smirk turned into a genuine smile.

"How good do you feel?" He asked, a tone softer than I expected.

I blushed. Was I that obvious? "Pretty good. I never thought I'd ever have the confidence to wear a dress like this." I looked down and smoothed out the skirt of it before looking back up. "It has an open back." I added, spinning slowly so he could see.

"You look incredible. May I?" He asked extending out his arm. I smiled and gave short not before taking hold of his arm. He pulled me into him close, before leading me down the stairs. Yoongi and Namjoon were already waiting for us, and I saw Namjoon give Jimin a look when he didn't let go of my arm.

"Alright I give up." Yoongi said making me look over to him. "Noona looks better in red than I do."

Namjoon cracked a smile and he turned to his boyfriend giving him a peck on the lips. "You still look pretty damn good babe."

Once Tae and Jungkook were finally done with whatever it was that was taking them so long, we were able to leave for the restaurant. When we arrived, just like I had expected, it was one of the most extravagant restaurants I had ever seen. When we were brought to our table, as usual Aunt Mae was sitting at the head talking some poor cousins ear off.

"Well it's about time." She scolded when Namjoon was pulling my chair out for me. I noticed Jimin went to do it, but Namjoon almost quite literally pushed him out of the way, then sat directly next to me. Jimin moved to my other side, and the rest of us sat down accordingly.

"Sorry Auntie, I told them to be ready sooner." I said, knowing if she wasn't acknowledged this would become ten times worse.

"My dear." She said in a breathy, surprised way. "You look so different. Like a different person." She said this in front of the entire table, making literally everyone there look over to me. "Ah, I know what it is. You are starting to look more like your mother." She commented.

"Thank you Auntie."

"Woah, Noona you really do look so different. I didn't think you were here." Jackson said.

"Jackson, I saw you yesterday. I waved at you." I scoffed.

"Didn't realize it was you." He grinned. "I thought you were someone's date."

"Right."

"Enough." Aunt Mae said making my Uncle Lee roll his eyes and continue stuffing his face with bread. I didn't blame him. "Now that everyone is here, we have an exciting announcement to make." She had a huge smile on her face and turned to Minah. "Our precious little girl has accepted a position at JanTen modeling agency, and signed her contract just last week. She has committed to 3 years with them and we are so proud of her!" She leaned over and kissed Minah on the cheek, letting out soft squeals of excitement.

The table gave her all congratulations and a small round of applause. I honestly was happy for her. She is a beautiful girl, and she definitely has the body for modeling. I smiled to her and she gave me a big grin back.

"Mama, can you believe Eonnie has lost over 70 pounds? Can you imagine how hard that must have been for her?" She looked back over to me. "You were more lazy than Jaebummie, you must feel really good about yourself."

I ignored the backhanded compliment and took a sip of water to clear my throat before answering. "I am happy with my progress, thank you Minah."

"I mean, Jimin." She continued, smiling at him. "I know you just met her but you should see pictures from last year. She was beautiful but she was BIG and beautiful." She emphasized the word big, annoying me. She wasn't wrong. I was comfortable in my body but when my dad confined in me a fear he had, I knew I had to do something about it.

I knew I had to do it for myself, but I also had to do it for him.

No one knew that.

Not even my brothers.

"I don't need to see a picture, thank you." He said, his voice less than friendly.

"Eonnie, maybe if you lose more weight, I can get you into my agency. They would love you. Just let me know when  you get down to the right size." She smiled.

I saw Jimin crack his neck and clench his jaw from the corner of my eye, but I didn't want to bring attention to it. "I don't think that life style is for me Minah, but thank you." I smiled.

I turned away and thankfully Uncle Lee started talking before Aunt Mae or Minah could. I was honestly just going through the motions of getting through this dinner. Minah was loud. And she went on and on and on about how much she was getting paid per outfit, then per photo shoot, then for appearances. Because she was a new model, they had all these plans lined up for her and she was just so excited.

She has a right to be excited.

But I don't want to hear about it anymore.

I let out a breath and Jimin nudged me giving me a smile.

"What are you going to get for dessert?"

"I was thinking about getting the Chocolate cake with ice cream, or the cheesecake." I replied. I held up the menu to show him the options, and he leaned in to look. "What about you?"

"Why don't we each get one, and then share. That way we can have a little bit of both."

Minah was 4 people away from me on the other side of the table. Before I even had the chance to accept Jimin's offer, she opened her big mouth once again.

"Oh Eonnie and I won't be having dessert." She giggled. "We have to watch our figures. You're not going to lose more weight if you are having sweets."

"Oh honey." Aunt Mae said in a stern voice. "Let the girl have a sweet. She's hardly recognizable as it is." She turned to me her eye brows together, with a mean look. "Your father already doesn't recognize you, and you are just making it worse with this selfish weight loss nonsense."

The entire room fell silent.

And I felt the rage in my chest from my stomach to my throat.

I can not believe she just said that.

I glared at her, not regarding the disrespect in my expression. And frankly not caring.

One again the entire table turned to me, besides my Uncle Lee who stared at my Aunt.

"I can't believe you just said that." He said to her.

"It's true. She knows it, we all know it. She is just making it harder on him to remember the people in his family. He probably has no idea he even has a daughter."

That mad me snap. I threw my napkin down on the table, pushed my chair out and grabbed my purse before storming out of the restaurant. I was on the verge of tears, and all I wanted to do was leave.

I was at the SUV in seconds, about to burst when I saw Namjoon running over to me. He wrapped me up in a hug holding me together for the moment.

"I will have Jin round up rest of them and we will go back to the house, okay?"

I nodded and attempted to breathe.

I should have never attended this stupid family reunion.
