Arc 6, Chapter 5
The Guildmaster
Matthew bounced on his heels, smiling as he spoke to Infinity over the phone. "Uh huh," he murmured, "I gotcha. By the way, did you see that cute cat video I tagged you in on Tumblr? It was so adorable!" Matthew blinked. "How did I get your Tumblr? Ebone told me, of course! Anyway, I tagged you in a whole bunch of dog pictures too so-" Matthew stopped mid-word, staring down at his phone in shock. "He hung up on me," Matthew said, offended.
Umbra crossed his arms, a frustrated expression on his face. "Wait, why did Infinity call you? I'm the team leader here!"
"Infinity says you're kinda obnoxious and overdramatic, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. You're adorable when you're overdramatic," Matthew said with a shrug.
"But still," Umbra replied, agape, "I specifically gave Infinity my phone number so he would call me when a crisis arose and he needed our help."
Matthew squeezed Umbra's cheek playfully. "Hmm," he teased, "Maybe since Infinity likes me better, I should be leader."
"No!" Umbra cried defensively, "You're second in charge, you're only allowed to lead if I can't physically drag myself into Infinity's office!"
"I was joking, Umbry," Matthew said gently, patting Umbra's back. The fae blushed furiously.
Umbra's phone buzzed with a text, and he gleefully pulled it out to check it. Finally, he thought, it must be Infinity. Probably giving me some important, classified information retaining to his call with Matthew.
"hey dude wanna come eat tacos w/ me in like ten minutes????????? u can bring the fam 2" Umbra's expression soured. It was Time. He and Time had exchanged phone numbers several weeks ago, and Umbra still couldn't believe that the god of time had AT&T.
Was Time even supposed to be texting during his meeting? Would the other Überdragons fry Umbra alive for interrupting one of their own during their gathering?
"Not right now. Guild business," Umbra replied, biting the inside of his cheek. Time may had given him favor with Alcorith Horizons after the mission he forced them to do for him, but he could still be a pain. He didn't quite understand the fact that Umbra had a job and couldn't be whisked away to some random restaurant every other minute.
"awwwwwww :( :( :( come on plz itll be fun!!!!!! work is boring and dumb come and drink in mexico w/ me" Umbra's eye twitched. He hated texting Time.
"Mercenary work pays big, and I want the cash."
"plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz????" What was Time's problem?
"No. I don't wish to continue having this conversation." With that, Umbra shoved his phone back into his pocket.
"Who was that?" Matthew asked, peeking over Umbra's shoulder.
"Time. We wanted us to go eat with him again," Umbra groaned, shaking his head.
"It must be lonely, being a god," Esper murmured insightfully.
"Lonely has nothing to do with it," Umbra muttered, "He's utterly crazy. Tried to get us to ditch Infinity."
"Speaking of Infinity, we're supposed to report to his office," Matthew said, drawing a pocket knife from his coat, "He says it's of utmost importance."
Author's Note- huh, time seemed kinda desperate. guess he knows something we dont.
