Arc 6, Chapter 37
The Boss
Hawkins and Asher stood side by side, tense and silent. Their boss’s office was dark, the figure standing within barely distinguishable.
“I heard there were intruders today, correct?” a deep, rich voice snarled.
Hawkins dipped his head. “That's right, sir.”
“I smell...Huh, that's odd,” a plump woman chimed, kicking her legs. She sat upon his desk, her long, coarse green hair piling on the surface. She smirked, exposing wicked fangs.
Asher’s brow knitted. “Autumn, nobody wants you here.”
Autumn tapped her chin, leaning into the shadows. “Boss enjoys my company, isn't that right?”
A dark snicker rang through the stuffy office. “Hawkins, Asher, what do you know about these intruders?”
“They call themselves Silver Moon,” Hawkins murmured, “And they are, as far as we know, affiliated with Alcorith Horizons. This isn't my first encounter with them. They were the ones responsible for the failure of capturing Time’s essence.”
“Their names are Umbra, Matthew, Aunora, Esper, Victor, and Seraph. They're some kinda weird family,” Asher added.
Red eyes flashed with curiosity. “Ah...Well, that's an interesting turn,” their boss commented.
“Aunora?” Autumn questioned, “I thought I knew her smell! I guess my sister did manage to pull herself together. You shoulda roughed her up for me, Asher.”
“I could care less about the stupid demon horse,” their boss hissed, “I knew those two men had a note of familiarity. I thought I had gotten rid of that witch years ago, but I suppose she's back at it, still conspiring to bring him back. Her magic signature covering those men was disgusting.”
“Hawkins, Asher,” he began, making him flinch, “This ‘Silver Moon’ group is now a person of interest. Do you understand?” He stepped forward, coming into the light. White, silky hair fell across his pristine lab coat, which covered light blue scrubs. His eyes were red and striking, the pupils that of a snake’s. The aura of power he radiated was almost unbearable.
Hawkins averted his eyes, showing respect. “Yes, Master Life.”
----
Matthew had lowered himself to the floor, his forehead nearly touching the grimy concrete blocks. He trembled violently, sobs racking his frame.
“Master, please,” he whispered.
High heels clicked across the floor, the figure attached to them stalking around Matthew like a cat. Matthew flinched at every ear-piercing noise.
“I'm going to ask you one more time: where is Umbra? I ordered both of you to come.” The women paused in front of Matthew, pressing her shoe onto the top of Matthew's head and driving his head harder onto the concrete.
“I-I-” Matthew’s speech was restricted by his sobbing.
She kicked him in the ribs, hard. “Matthew!”
“Umbra was attacked!” Matthew finally cried, “He almost died, it was serious!”
“An attack? Who was responsible for this?”
Matthew bit his already-bleeding lip, too scared to reveal anything else.
She knew down, grabbing Matthew roughly by the chin. “I asked you a question, Matthew. I expect you to answer it. Unless you wish for me to harm Umbra further...You do remember what I'm capable of, right?”
Matthew bawled, “No, no, please! I'll-I'll tell you everything, just please don't touch him!”
