"So what's going on with you and Malfoy?" Hermione pipes up as she pulls (y/n) to sit at the Gryffindor table with the golden trio when the Hufflepuff was walking by.
"1. what is it with people pulling me everywhere and 2. nothings going on with Draco and me!" she whispers, looking around and hoping no one overheard them.
"Sure and Ron isn't in love with Krum." Harry rolls his eyes with a smirk.
"I'm not in love with him!"
"Shut up, we know you are." Hermione snickers, turning back to (y/n) who had her arms crossed.
"Like I said, nothing is going on between us." the golden trio look at each other and shrugs, dropping the topic so everyone could have a peaceful lunch together when Loki hoots loudly as he sours through the sky. He sings as he lands on (y/n)'s head, crooning happily and she laughs when he jumps down on the table. "Loki! I missed you, buddy! How are you?" the owl goes on a tangent of hoots like he was complaining and the group just nods along as if they understand. "Oh, that's rough buba." Loki snuggles into his companion's hands as she pets him, letting her pick him up and cradle him.
"Looks like Loki got you a letter too." Ron says and (y/n) quickly takes it before he could. She opens it up to see that it was a letter from Draco.
Do you want to go to the Black Lake during our study period before Herbology?
D.M~
(y/n) looks up to see Draco glancing at her subtly from his house table and she nods at him before folding up the letter again, and setting Loki down on the table. He perches and fluffs up in a sunspot, going to sleep while Harry and Hermione pet him.
"Who's the letter from?" Ron asks.
"Just my parents. Asking how I'm doing and stuff. I'll write to them later." (y/n) says.
"Hey, we were thinking of studying in the library after classes this evening, you coming?" Hermione asks her friend and she nods.
"Yeah for sure. If the boys don't muck around." she narrows her eyes at them as they look away at their lunch like it was the most interesting thing in the world. The Hufflepuff soon finishes up eating, getting up from the table. "I'll see you guys at Herbology. I'm going to study during my break."
"See ya (y/n)!" the golden trio call out as their friend leaves the Great Hall, chatting together while petting Loki who loved the attention he was getting. Not soon after, Draco got up and said goodbye to his friends, whistling for Loki and he perks up while stomping his feet like he was annoyed. The Slytherin whistles again and the owl ruffles his feathers before flying over to him and perching on his shoulder.
"Did Loki just ditch us to go to Draco!?" Harry gasps, watching the boy walk out of the Great Hall. Draco turned around the corner and saw (y/n) walking while she was reading a book, a smile growing on his face as he crept up behind her before picking her up.
"Draco!" she gasps, blushing bright and thankful that there wasn't anyone around to see him spin her around. "Put me down! Why do you have to sneak up on me like that!?" she huffs at him as he put her down on her feet, looking up to see him chuckling at her red cheeks.
"Cause it's cute and funny to see you get mad." Loki quickly flies to sit on (y/n)'s head when she picks Draco up with her powers and has him turned upside down.
"(y/n)! Put me down this instant!" he shrieks out, his hair and cloak falling to the floor along with his arms. "I'm going to be sick!" he sighs in relief as she sets him back down on his feet, feeling queasy but she pats his stomach and walks off.
"You'll be fine." he quickly runs after her, looking at what she was reading.
"What are you reading?"
"Not sure, a romance novel I guess? I got bored and picked a random book." Draco scrunched his nose at the thought.
"That sounds like a horrible read."
"As if you read." (y/n) scoffs lightly.
"I do! Just the older books. I think they're much better than the ones nowadays. They have real meaning and purpose because the authors don't hide their feelings, intentions or emotions."
"So philosophers?" the Hufflepuff genuinely asks in the interest of learning something new about the Slytherin next to her.
"Yes and poets too."
"Well I would ask you to recommend me some but the words sometimes go over my head."
"Well if it's so hard for you to understand, I can read some to you." Draco whispers, almost shy of his offer but he eases into a smile when (y/n) nods, accepting his offer. The two walk to the Black Lake, sitting down on a field with the lake in front of them. The Hufflepuff summons some homework she wanted to get done, the Slytherin looking at her with annoyance. "Are you really going to do schoolwork right now?"
"This is a study period for a reason Draco." he huffs as he watches her speed through her homework and assessments before he got bored and snatched the textbook out from her hands. "Draco! Come on!"
"Nope!" He grins mischievously as he holds her textbook above his head and he saw that she was about to use her powers.
Without thinking, the Slytherin moves to push the Hufflepuff down on the field, pinning her down on her back as he hovered over her. (y/n)'s breathe hitches seeing Draco loom over her, his grey eyes wide with surprise at his own actions. He looked down at her with her hair spread out against the grass, her doe eyes wide and warm from the sun as her cheeks turned pink. Her hands held his cloak, gripping the fabric before she let go of him. Her hands fell on either side of her head where his were gripping the grass
Draco's thoughts were running miles per second and he dropped the book on (y/n)'s face when he didn't know what to do, quickly leaning back away from her as she hissed in pain. "Take your stupid book." The girl didn't understand what just happened, flustered but also annoyed and she waved her hand to summon the Slytherins poem novel to fall on his head. "Ow!" he hissed as the book fell to his lap, glaring at the girl next to him who had her red ones narrowed at him before she dropped back to lay on the field with her arms over her eyes.
"Well? Aren't you going to read to me?" (y/n) asks when she didn't hear anything from Draco, turning to her side and laying on her arm as she sent her stuff back into her room. The boy froze for a second but regained his calm composure, opening the book where he left off and began reading. He looked down every now and then at how the girl next to him lay close to him, curled up while listening to him read. The Slytherin read to the sleeping Hufflepuff for a while, stopping to see if she actually had gone fast asleep.
"(y/n)?" she hums out softly and he slowly moves to lay next to her without waking her up. "Will you come with me here again after classes...?"
"Can't... study in the library with the golden trio..." she murmurs out sleepily and the platinum blonde-haired boy frowns but doesn't make a fuss. He instead turns around on his side quietly, taking this time to admire the sleeping girl in front of him. He leans over to brush her hair back softly, caressing her cheek before he looked down at her arm that rested between them. He moved his hand down to hers, gingerly touching her fingers and being careful to not wake her up before entwining his fingers with hers. He didn't move away from her, his eyes just admiring her lovingly as the sun moved above them and the water crashed against the shore softly.
Draco let his emotional heart rule over his logical brain, leaning his forehead on (y/n)'s and sighing at the comfort she brought him

"Why do you have grass stains on your cheek and in your hair?" Hermione asks as (y/n) quickly runs into the Herbology class almost late again when she fell asleep outside. "I thought you went to study."
"I did! Sort of... I fell asleep by the black Lake." the Hufflepuff mentions the half-truth, which was sort of fully correct too in a way. She tied up her hair while her friend plucked the grass from her hair while she put her dragon hide gloves on for the Bubotubers they were going to handle this evening. Harry and Ron watched in amusement but their chuckles faded with shock when they see Draco soon walk into the class with grass in his hair and on his clothes. The boys look at each other before looking at (y/n), knowing smirks on their faces.
"Sure you were studying. Not hanging out with a specific Slytherin." Harry says as he nudges Hermione and nods to Draco as he was ruffling his hair to get the grass out.
