"So Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event. The Tri-Wizard tournament." Dumbledore announces and excitement shakes the hall, chatter echoing amongst the students as they sat before the feast with candles floating above them and the professors at the head table. Dumbledore explains what the tournament is before he welcomes the guests of the two other schools that will be joining Hogwarts for the tournament. "For now please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy of magic and their headmistress Madam Maxime!" the Great Hall doors soon quickly open, music-light and fanciful-fill the air as a group of girls clad in silky, skin-clinging blue robes dance up the aisle. The procession of the stunningly beautiful Beauxbaton girls dancing in synchronisation immediately caught the attention of every single Hogwarts boy in the hall, the girls scowling at the opposite gender oggling at these girls.
Draco wasn't one to pay attention to the guests, instead, he hid his smile behind his hands as he watched (y/n) the entire time. She was the only one who had his undivided attention, chuckling as he saw the irritated look on her face with her friends looking at these girls. He noticed a mischievous smirk grow on her face, seeing her wave her hands with the fastest flash of red as the butterflies the Beauxbaton girls released were red and not blue. They looked at each other in shock but continued with their performance as the red butterflies suddenly grew big and exploded with icky red goo. The boys clapped and cheered for the Beauxbaton girls anyway, applauding them as the Hogwarts girls all sneered at the boys.
"Can you believe this shit? It's like they haven't seen girls before." (y/n) hisses to Hermione and the other girls, who agree with her.
"And now our friends from the north, please greet the proud sons of Durmstrang and the high master Igor Karkaroff!" The Great Hall was suddenly filled with brooding and dark music, a quartet of Durmstrang boys marching down the aisle. The Hogwarts girls suddenly whisper and giggle to each other as they watched these boys brandishing bo staffs twirl them around, periodically stabbing them into the ground with a spark effect. They were entranced by these Durmstrang boys the same way the boys were entranced with the Beauxbaton girls and now the Hogwarts boys were scowling the way they were transfixed on the performance.
Draco was one of these boys, a sickly jealousy feeling bubbling in his chest as he watched (y/n) stare at these boys when they set down their staffs to perform backflips and spins. She was giggling with Hermione and he unknowingly crushed the green apple he was eating in his hand, ignoring the Durmstrang boys as they bring torches to their lips and spit dazzling comets of fire into the air. A fiery snake travelled down the aisle and through the air while turning into a Pheonix.
"Mate you good?" Blaise asks next to Draco, passing him some tissues to wipe off the crushed apple.
"Yeah...
Once the guests were seated, the Durmstrang boys with the Slytherins and the Beauxbaton girls with Ravenclaw, Dumbledore calls forth the casket for the tri-wizard cup. "Eternal glory, that is what awaits the student who wins the tri-wizard tournament. But to do this that student must survive three tasks. Three extremely dangerous tasks." Dumbledore warns, walking up to the casket. "For this reason, the ministry has seen fit to impose a new rule. To explain all this, we have the head of the department of international magic cooperation, Mister Bartimus Crouch." The man from the World Quidditch Cup was there, about to start his speech when
A stitch of lightning flashes across the enchanted ceiling and the torches along the walls flicker, casting the Hall into an eerie semi-darkness with a sudden loud roar of thunder. The rear doors fly open and a man stands in a dark silhouette, clad in a long black travelling cloak and clutching a staff. Lightening flashes again causing the students to scream and the man points his wand to the ceiling, casting a spell of a red jet of flames calming the enchanted ceiling.
Slowly, the torches regain their bloom and the man steps out from the darkness. "Who's that?" (y/n) asks the golden trio as everyone looks at the man with his scarred flesh, metallic limp and the electric blue eye scanning the crowd of students.
"Bloody hell, it's Mad-Eye Moody." Ron exclaims as the man goes to embrace Dumbledore.
"Alastar Moody? The Auror?" Hermione asks.
"Auror?" (y/n) was confused and Ron turns around to explain to her.
"Dark-wizard catcher. Half the cells in Azkaban are full thanks to him. He's supposed to be mad as a hatter, though, these days."
"He's drinking, in front of the students...?" (y/n) gasps in shock, watching this creepy man drink from a glass bottle while Crouch approaches the front of the hall next to the casket to explain the rules of the tri-wizard tournament.
"After much deliberation, the ministry has concluded that for their own safety, no student under the age of seventeen shall be allowed to put forth their name for the tri-wizard tournament." The crowd exclaims ut angrily, booing and yelling out. "This decision is final."
Dumbledore stepped forward, a furious look on his face. "SILENCE!" he bellows, saying this forcefully to result in absolute silence.
"Well damn..." (y/n) whispers, watching as the headmaster turns to the casket and gives its three taps with his wand. The top lid opens and the box melds to reveal a goblet containing erupting with blue-white flames.
"The goblet of fire. Anyone wishing to submit themselves for the tournament merely write their name upon a piece of parchment and throw it in the flame before this hour on Thursday night. Do not do so lightly, if chosen there's no turning back. As from this moment the tri-wizard tournament has begun."
~~~~~~~~
The students all chatter and gossip about the goblet of fire as they left the Great Hall, mingling before they head to their dorm rooms for some sleep before their first day of classes. Draco looked over the crowd and saw (y/n) with her housemates, pushing through the students and grabbing her waist to pull her away from the crowd. Her eyes widen at the sudden movement, the students all too busy staring at the guests as they marched next to them to notice the Slytherin and Hufflepuff sneak away to the astronomy tower.
"We could've gotten caught!" (y/n) whispers as she looks up at Draco who had a determined look on his face and she was worried about what they needed to talk about so urgently. "Draco what's wrong?" he doesn't say anything as he lets her climb up the rickety stairs first but she pauses and turns to face him, stumbling against the railing as he easily towered over her. "Why did you just pull me away?" the boy couldn't say anything from the flurry of emotions in his head, struggling to get a grasp on why he felt like this. It was noisy and just so chaotic, a mess of feelings that he didn't even know he had or understand. He looked at the girl in front of him, her eyes wide and her lips pursed with concern. He could smell her perfume, enticing me and drawing him closer to her and a single thought ran through his head.
Would her lips taste as sweet as she smells?
Draco quickly back away from (y/n), startled by the thought like cold water being dumped on him. He felt sick, felt uneasy and he quickly ran up the steps to the tower. The girl watched with confusion, heat on her cheeks at how close the platinum blonde-haired boy was to her before she flew up the stairs with her powers to interrogate what the issue was with him.
"What's going on with you Draco?" she whispers as she sees him sitting on the bench with his head in his hands. He was trying to figure out why he was so jealous of her staring at the Durmstrang boys, why he felt the need to have her all to himself.
"Nothing... just... forget about it." Draco sighs out and (y/n) frowns, sitting down next to him.
"You know you can tell me, I'm here if you need to vent. It's not good to keep things inside... it slowly kills you..." he nods at her words, feeling comfort in her presence and his mind finally quietens down. "I'm here if you need to talk to someone Draco or if you need a hug..." she looks at him with her arms raised and he looks at her warily, pulling her closer to him so he could hug her tight.
There was this instant warmth that surrounded Draco and he pulls (y/n) onto his lap to hold her closer, burying his nose against her neck as her hands looped around his shoulders to play with his hair. He couldn't help but melt in her arms, to feel so safe in them and be surrounded by the sweet smell of honey from her hair. His arms wrap around her waist tightly to have her close as physically as possible, needing her close to his heart to ease the pain from her next few words.
"Friends always help each other Draco... so if you need me, I'm here..."
Friends... he hated that word...
He didn't want to be friends...
