"Tell me again why I shouldn't hurt you?" (y/n) hisses as she and Draco walked together to the Quidditch pitch for the girl's first lesson with the sport.
"Because I thought you would be a good player?" he mumbles carefully and he immediately knew that was the wrong answer soon after as she glared at him. "I mean your house needed desperate help and I thought you would be a good suggestion? Don't you want to help your house?"
"No!" (y/n) snaps. "Not if it gets me hurt! That game is dangerous!"
"You can always protect yourself-"
"-and risk myself getting caught if I used my powers!? Are you nuts!?" Draco opens his mouth, closing it after when he realised she was right.
"Oh, no..."
"Oh, no is right!" (y/n) huffs as she crosses her arms over her long sleeve shirt she wore. She had to dress somewhat appropriate for the sporty lesson, hair braided with cargo pants and leather boots. Draco looked over her, amused that she wasn't wearing her comfortable hoodie or her track pants that she normally roamed around the castle in after classes had ended. It was a different look for sure.
The kids walk out onto the Quidditch pitch, Draco running off to hide so he could watch from a distance as (y/n) jogged over to the Hufflepuff Quidditch team captain. "(y/f/n) right?" the boy asks her and she nods. "Nice to meet you. I'm Cedric Diggory, Hufflepuffs Quidditch captain."
"Nice to meet you too Cedric." the two shake hands briefly as Cedric walked over to a suitcase and a couple of brooms laying on the pitch.
"I'm guessing you haven't played before, am I right?" the 15-year-old boy asks softly, noticing the worried look on the 2 years younger Hufflepuff student before him.
"Yeah... I haven't... The game doesn't look safe..." Cedric smiles, nodding in agreement.
"I won't lie to you, there have been a couple injuries here and there." that makes (y/n) pale even more. "But if we practice I'm sure we can keep you safe, I'll make sure to keep you safe." Draco narrowed his eyes at the 5th-year Hufflepuff student, not liking how close he was getting to (y/n) while helping her put on some protective pads and a helmet on her head.
"Those are the bludgers, that's the quaffle and in there is the golden snitch." (y/n) points out when Cedric opens up the suitcase and he grins.
"Great! You know the equipment already! That's great!"
"I help another student practice sometimes..." the female Hufflepuff mentions, noting back to the times she has helped Draco with his training during their late-night meetings.
"Well, we can use that then. Your broom is over there and we can get up in the air to see how fast you can go." Cedric says as he grabs the quaffle, both Hufflepuffs getting on their brooms and flying up to get their session started.
~~~~~~~~
"You're cancelling on us again to go practice!?" Draco grumbles out as he saw (y/n) in her Quidditch uniform when she walked out of her common room.
"Yeah? I have to practice don't I?" she looks at him weirdly. He was the one that go her wrapped up in this Quidditch business in the first place.
"You've been going almost every evening the last couple of weeks!"
"4 days a week isn't that bad! And I need the practice! How else am I going to keep my powers under wraps and hidden from prying eyes if I use them during the game?"
"What if you don't even get picked to replace someone!?"
"I am replacing someone. Did you not listen to me last time?" (y/n) rolls her eyes as Draco followed her while she headed to the pitch again. To be honest, Draco was annoyed at how close (y/n) and Cedric was becoming, her talking about whatever they did during their training session and mentioning the captain over and over again. It was always Cedric taught me this, Cedric taught me that. It was growing tiresome and annoying to the Slytherin boy. Especially when he came to pick her up after lessons had ended to see the Hufflepuffs laughing together as they sat on their brooms. Like what could be so funny?
"You're replacing a seeker?" Draco says, trying to remember what (y/n) said last time.
"Yeah. At least I don't have to go face-to-face against the other players and focus on dodging the bludgers while looking for the snitch. Which will be easy to do I guess. I hope..." She fiddles with her prescription goggles that Cedric had gotten her since she couldn't wear her glasses or they might fly off during their mock game training this evening.
"Hey (y/n)!" both kids turn around to see Cedric running up to them from behind, walking next to (y/n) with a smile on his face.
"Hey, Cedric." Draco watched with narrowed eyes as he noticed the soft pink flush grow on (y/n)'s cheek, her looking up at the Hufflepuff captain with wide eyes. He narrowed his eyes at the two, not happy with the way she was looking up at the older boy.
"Oh, hello Malfoy." Cedric clears his throat, noticing the boy on the other side of (y/n) before looking at her with a grin. "Ready for your first friendly game (y/n)?"
"I guess. I'm very nervous though..." she says, taking in a deep breath to calm her nerves as she rubs her chest.
Cedric pats her shoulder, squeezing her lightly and Draco scowls at the gesture. "You'll be amazing! You're a fantastic seeker! You're faster than anyone I've ever seen in Quidditch history!"
"Thanks, Cedric..." (y/n) rubs her neck bashfully, Draco gaping at the scene as he stops by the pitch entrance and watches the two Hufflepuffs get on their brooms to fly off. The female Hufflepuff turns around and waves at the Slytherin and he eases in a smile, watching and cheering silently for her as she beasts through her first mock Quidditch game.
~~~~~~~~
It was finally game day for the Quidditch match between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, (y/n) pacing in the changerooms after she changed into her uniform. She was trying to calm herself down, trying to block off the loud cheers and chanting outside from both houses. She thought she would be ok, she thought she would be fine but there was a heavy feeling that grew on her chest the closer it came for the game to start and now she was struggling to breathe.
She needed to do this but she couldn't.
She promised to help but she didn't want to get caught.
She had practised for weeks and yet she was terrified of humiliating herself in front of everyone.
She couldn't face the crowd, couldn't face the multiple eyes on her.
She can't go out there, she can't-
"-(y/n)!" she heard her name but it sounded warbled and muffled like everything around her faded and tilted. The world spun and she couldn't breathe. She can't breathe, why couldn't she breathe!? "(y/n)!" Draco quickly rushed over to her as she drops to the floor, the large package in his arms dropping by the entrance as he kneeled in front of her. He grew panicked seeing her hyperventilate and wheeze for air, struggling to breathe. "I'm right here. It's me Draco, I'm right here!" he didn't know what to do, hating the tears that brimmed in her eyes as she clutched her chest.
"I can't-Draco-I can't breathe-" she panics and the boy just pulled her into a hug. He didn't know what else to do, he didn't know how to help someone who was going through an attack. Draco quickly saw (y/n)'s walkman on the bench in her bag behind her and puts the headphones over her ears, playing her music loud to drown out the crowds chanting and holding her face so she was looking at him.
"Try to take in a deep breath." he breathes in, hoping (y/n) understood to try and follow him and she does, breathing out and she does that as well. She follows his breathing for a while, sighing out in relief when the pounding in her heart slows down back to normal.
"I can't do this Draco..." he frowns, looking over at the new broom he had bought specifically for her. The handle shone with the gold engraving of her name on the end, blocking (y/n)'s view of it as he stayed kneeling in front of her.
"That's fine. I'm sorry I pushed you to do this."
"But then the Hufflepuffs have no seeker..." (y/n) genuinely felt guilty. If she backs out, it would mean an immediate disqualification for Hufflepuff and a default win for Gryffindor.
"You don't have to do anything you don't want to do." Draco says firmly, taking her gloves and helmet off her. "We'll just tell Diggory."
"Ok..." he helps her up, holding her arm gently when (y/n) pauses and looks at the large package by the entrance. "What's that?"
"It's nothing." Draco quickly says, pulling her out to the pitch where the Hufflepuff team was.
"(y/n)! I thought you weren't coming out." Cedric grins but it falters noticing the pale look on her. "What happened?" he narrows his eyes at Draco who was holding her up.
"I can't play Cedric, I can't do it."
"What-"
"-she had a panic attack. If she says she can't play, she won't." the Slytherin boy snaps at the older Hufflepuff captain.
"(y/n)!?" everyone turns around to see Harry and Ron with the Gryffindor team, their eyes wide with shock when they see her in Hufflepuff Quidditch uniform. "Are you in the quidditch team as well? That's amazing!" both boys grin in excitement.
"Not anymore, unfortunately. I understand that you can't play (y/n). I appreciate you trying. I guess we have to forfeit if we don't have a seeker..." Cedric sighs, Harry looking at (y/n) in shock that she was the seeker for her house. He would have failed against her in the match today.
"Ah, the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor Quidditch teams." The teams turn around to see McGonagall walking towards them. "I have to inform you that this match has been cancelled."
"We can't cancel Quidditch!" Oliver exclaims.
"Silence, Wood. You and your teammates will go to Gryffindor Tower, now. The same with you Diggory and your team, to your common room." The team players walk off, one team whispering in relief that they have time to find another seeker while the other was annoyed at the wasted chance for an easy victory. "Not you Potter, Weasley and (l/n). Come with me." Draco and (y/n) look at each other warily but she ushers him off gently, nodding to him that she will be ok. The Slytherin boy rushes off to collect (y/n)'s things from the changerooms and grabs his gift for her to stash it away somewhere where she wouldn't find it.
