It was the start of another year for Hogwarts, Diagon Alley filled with students and parents purchasing all the new textbooks and equipment needed for the classes. Draco was following behind his father with a scowl on his face, reading over the last letter he received from (y/n) a week ago. He had sent her multiple letters after asking her if she was ok but there was no reply, no letter no nothing at all. He sighs, folding the letter away and hiding it in his pocket, making sure to stay close to his father to not get lost.
He sneered at the people that bumped into him, having enough and being in a horrible mood for a while and he finally snapped at one person that bumped his shoulder. "Watch where you're going!" the person didn't reply or acknowledge him, humming softly to a melody he recognised and he quickly turns around to see a familiar-looking walkman attached to the skirt. Draco's eyes widen when the person turns around, looking at a shop next to him as they pulled down their headphones. "(y/n)?" she had grown a lot, her hair much longer as it was braided over one shoulder, cheeks still puffed like a little kid. Draco watched as she turns to face him finally, her eyes going wide as her cheeks flushed.
"Draco!?" she gasps, eyes wide but before the two could do anything, the boy was suddenly pulled away by his father. (y/n) was frozen still, surprised to see how much Draco had grown in the last few months. He was now way taller than her, the both of them previously being roughly the same height but not anymore. His famous platinum blonde hair was slicked back again, looking a little less childish than before. "Oh no-" (y/n) rushed through the crowd to try and get to him, to apologise for ghosting him the last week. The first shop she entered was Flourish and Blotts, trying to peek up from behind the adults as flashing lights went off. She didn't recognise anyone here and panicked from how cramped it was, apologising for bumping into people who didn't give her a second glance. She got trapped in the crowd and struggled to get out, needing to leave the small shop for air.
(y/n) gasped when she feels someone grab her arm and pull her to a corner hidden behind a tower of books, looking up with wide eyes to see Draco narrowing his down at her. "We meet again (y/n)." he huffs in annoyance and she knew he was upset about the whole 'stop writing to Draco' thing.
"Boy you've grown!" she gasps out, having to actually tilt her head up only a little. The Slytherin boy flicks the Hufflepuff girl's forehead and she whines out from the slight shock of pain. "Ok! I'm sorry! I didn't have the time to write since I had to move all my stuff back to the castle."
"For a whole week? With no letter explaining that to me or explaining that you can't contact me for a while!? I was worried!" he exclaims angrily.
"I know, I'm sorry. It's not easy keeping an apartment in secret while moving my stuff to the castle at night. People get suspicious of opening and closing windows. I am only 12 after all! I'm not a legal adult!" Draco looks down at (y/n) as she huffs at him in annoyance, tugging on her braid and she swats his hand away. "What was that for!?" he blinks down at the girl, tugging on her braid again on sudden impulse and she shoves his hand off her. "Ok stop that!"
"Are you ok?" Draco finally asks, not upset anymore now that he finally saw (y/n) in front of him alive and well. "How are your powers doing?"
"I'm fine Draco. It was a bit lonely so I'm glad schools starting up again. My powers well, I don't pass out as quickly." he chuckles lightly at her words. "I kind of missed the astronomy tower. I couldn't see the stars well from my apartment."
"I missed it too. It's not the same at the mansion..." Draco says, looking away in embarrassment.
"I guess we both missed each other's company then." (y/n) grins up at the boy and he flushes, quickly taking a step back away from her. He gasps as the books behind him start to topple over but she quickly brings up her hands to bring the books back in their place carefully using her powers. "Careful there. You know I can't let anyone know about me." he nods quickly, taking a step towards (y/n) and she heats up from how close they were.
Draco was staring down at her intently, looking at the key attached to the chain around her necklace. "That's new." he points to it.
"Nah, had it since Christmas break." the Hufflepuff shrugs and the Slytherin just nods. "How have you been? I didn't get to ask."
"Ok..." Draco whispers lowly, not telling the full truth. He didn't want to bring (y/n) into the home troubles he was having at the moment.
"Just ok?"
"I mean, it's the same at home."
"So you're ok? You didn't get caught or get in trouble with the walkman or the letters?"
"No, they're all hidden away from my father-" Draco freezes with fear realising his father might be looking for him. "I need to go!" he quickly slinks out of the corner and the books, (y/n) following him out a few seconds later.
"(y/n)!?" the girl quickly turns around, a wide smile on her face seeing Harry, Ron and Hermione.
"The golden trio! Back at it again!" she squeals out, her rushing over to hug Hermione who squeezes her back. "Look at all of you! What happened!? You've grown!"
"We could say the same thing about you!" Harry says and (y/n) gawks.
"Your voice cracked already or what!? Your little squeaky voice is gone!" Harry bursts red at that comment, the other two laughing. Draco watched from the top of the steps, sneering at how Harry looked at (y/n) with a wide smile, the two standing close while the group talked.
He stomps down the steps and sneers at the group. "Bet you loved that, didn't you, Potter? Famous Harry Potter. Can't even go into a bookshop without making the front page!" (y/n) raises a brow at Dracos tantrum, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes at him while he tried to ignore her stare.
"Leave him alone!" a little redhead girl that (y/n) didn't recognise suddenly stands in front of the Slytherin boy, squaring up at him.
"Look, Potter. You've got yourself a girlfriend!" the platinum blonde-haired boy mocks, his smirk falling instantly when he feels his father's staff on his shoulder before hearing his voice. (y/n) notices the frown on Draco's face, taking a step closer to him by the stairs and nodding to him.
"You ok?" she didn't like the look of slight fear in his eyes now that his father was in view, talking to Harry Potter. Ron glances at (y/n) with confusion, seeing her so close to the Slytherin boy as the two were in a quiet conversation until they quickly split apart when Hermione spoke up in front of them.
Draco was glaring at the Gryffindor girl, his father turning to speak to her next. "You must be Miss Granger." Lucius looks to his son who nods in confirmation. "Draco's told me all about you... and your parents. Muggles, aren't you?" Hermione frowns and looks over at her parents before turning back to Lucius, all the while (y/n) was glaring at Draco who looked at her in confusion. Lucius Malfoy can barely disguise his distaste for them before turning to the Weasleys to mock them next.
"What?" Draco whispers as (y/n) sneers at him.
"You told your father about Hermione."
"They're muggles! They're filthy mudbloods-"
"-say one more thing about my friends and I will send you to the moon." she growls lowly, moving to leave but her path was blocked away by Draco's father.
"And who are you?"
"Like I'm going to tell you shit." everyone gasps at the girl who swore at Lucius, his eyes dark and cold from the way this peasant was talking to him. No less than a child!
"How dare you-"
"-oh move it!" (y/n) shoves past Lucius but he grabs hold of her shoulder tightly in rage.
"Father don't-" he glares at his son who tries to help (y/n), slinking back under his gaze before turning to the little girl before him.
"A Hufflepuff dares to insult-" Lucius hisses in pain as his hand suddenly gets twisted when this little girl rips it off her shoulder.
"Don't touch me!" Draco couldn't believe his eyes at what he was seeing, (y/n) standing up to his father so easily before she simply walked away.
"She's cool." Ginny whispers in awe.
Lucius didn't know what to say, clearing his throat to try and save himself from the humiliation until he confronts the Weasley dad. He mocks him about his wealth to get one last say before leaving the store, Draco glaring at Harry before walking out after his father. He quickly looks around to try and find (y/n), seeing her leaning against the wall with a furious look on her face. She looks up and sees him, the boy giving her a slight smile but her glare hardens and she turns away from him making Draco sulk.
(y/n) knew Draco was walking away with his dad, turning around when the door opens to see the Golden trio and what looks like the Weasley family plus Hermione's parents. "That was so cool!" Ginny runs up to (y/n) gawking up at her and her family soon stands behind her.
"Ron, who's this?" his mother asks.
"This is (y/f/n), she's our friend!" Ron explains, giving the girl a wide smile.
"Nice to meet you Weasley family!"
"Oh ain't she a peach!" Molly says, pinching the girl's cheeks which makes her gasp in pain. Ron moved to introduce his entire family, Hermione doing the same.
"It's nice to finally meet the girl that looked after our daughter. Thank you so much." Hermione's parents smile at (y/n) and she nods happily.
"Thank you for the camera. I use it all the time!"
"I'm glad you enjoy it, we didn't have much use for it but we thought one of Hermione's friends might." the girl bumps her shoulders with (y/n) as she grins at her, looping her arm around her.
"Where are your parent's kid?" Arthur asks, looking around.
"Oh, they're not here. I'm just shopping by myself and then heading back home."
"Nonsense! It's dangerous for a child to be roaming around this late! Why don't you ask your parents if you would like to stay at our place until school starts?" Molly suggests and (y/n) wasn't sure.
"Just say yes, she's not going to stop badgering you about it." Ron whispers to her.
"Uh, ok. I'll have them drop my stuff off later tonight then."
"Great! Let's get moving back home for some dinner then!" Hermione and her parents say goodbye as they split away, (y/n) and Harry following the Weasleys from behind to talk quietly.
"How are you doing? How are your powers treating you?" he whispers and she gives him a thumbs up.
"Ok. Not fainting a lot like before. I can go a bit longer when using it. I also learned how to do couple new things too!"
"That's great! But do your parents know?" (y/n) freezes at the question before shaking her head quickly.
"No, they don't. They think I'm a normal witch and I hope it stays that way." She lies, hoping Harry believes her words and he does.
