"Who's there!?" Harry whips around and quickly grabs his cloak, causing the lamp to fall and (y/n) quickly catches it as the boy runs away. She lifts it up to her to blow the candle out, setting it down beneath a table to hide it before she flies after Harry who puts on his cloak and creeps around Filch. "Who is it!? Show yourself!" Filch demands when he walks into the restricted area, Harry slinking past him and out of the library entirely. (y/n) hovers over him to make sure he doesn't get into further trouble, the two of them exiting out into the castle hallway where Mrs. Norris was. She meows and chases after Harry as he runs away, (y/n) tsking lightly as she picks up the cat with her powers and drops her in the library before closing the door to lock her in.
Harry runs around a corner and stops short just as Snape and Quirrell appear, the former shoving the latter against the wall. "You don't want me as your enemy, Quirrell."
"What do you mean?"
"You know perfectly well what I mean." Snape threatens the stuttering Quirrell, sensing something and turning around to face Harry even though he was invisible. (y/n) was ready to pull Harry back but he was smart enough to walk away from Snape when he reached out, feeling only air and quickly turns back to Quirrell. "We'll have another chat soon... when you've had time to decide where your loyalties lie." Filch suddenly runs up to the professors and warned them that a student was out of bed, all three men running away while Harry slinked into a random room and (y/n) continued to follow him.
The room was vast and empty, multiple pillars filling the room but that didn't block off the obviously large mirror in the centre. Harry sheds off the cloak, letting the garment fall off him and onto the floor as he walks towards the mirror when he noticed it. (y/n) was curious too, setting herself down on the ground as she followed him from behind.
"(y/n)?" She quickly scatters away when the mirror somehow reflected her even though she was cloaked from sight, flying up above the mirror to avoid Harry seeing her. He rubs his eyes thinking he was just seeing things, walking closer to the mirror cautiously. In the reflection, he sees two people appear, quickly looking behind him to see that no one was there so it was only in the reflection of the mirror. "Mum?" the woman nods and smiles, Harry looking at the man. "Dad?" Harry smiles seeing his parents, like they were right there with him, like he was finally with them. He reaches out to touch them, but only gets the smoothness of the mirror. His mother puts her hand on his shoulder and he reaches up to touch it, hoping to be able to feel her there but he couldn't. It broke his heart, tears glazing his eyes but he smiles. At least he could see them now. "I need to show Ron!" the boy picks up his cloak and dashes out of the room leaving (y/n) to land back on the ground and shake her powers off, standing in front of the mirror.
She was curious to see what Harry's parents looked like but what she saw weren't grownups that resembled the boy, instead, she saw a tall man next to her with a gentle smile on his face. His hair was the darkest of ebony, wavy and falling smoothly just above his shoulders, eyes an emerald green that contrasted his pale skin. He wore this extravagant green and gold leather armour that looked out of this world, a green cape draped behind him and a gold helmet held in one of his hands, its horns were long and sharp which curved upwards. He waved his hands, a sudden shimmer of green surrounding (y/n) in the mirror and it changed her into an older version of herself. It was her but at the same time, it didn't look like her, maybe another life that looked like her. She wore a green lily pad gown fit for a princess, noticing the emerald ring on her ring finger matching the one on the man's finger.
(y/n) didn't know who this was but her heart broke, tears falling down her face. She didn't know who this was but her entire being cried out for him as if her heart knew him. Tears fell down her cheek and the man leaned down to wipe them away, (y/n) hoping to feel his cold touch but felt nothing. The man frowned seeing her cry, opening his palm to show an illusion of fireworks erupting from his hand. This made her smile at the sight, laughing lightly as she touched the mirror. She wanted to hold his hand but was met with the cold mirror instead.
"Come on! Come! Come look, it's my parents!" Harry barges into the room with Ron and (y/n) quickly flies away, deciding to go back to her room as she splits the wall behind the mirror to go through it and away.
~~~~~~~~
It was a bright morning as the students that stayed at Hogwarts sat together to eat breakfast, chattering happily on this beautiful day. Harry was sitting off away from the rest of the students, staring into the fireplace as the flames crackled. (y/n) had walked into the Great Hall with a cup of hot chocolate but noticed how down Harry looked, walking towards him.
"You ok?" she asks as she passes him the hot chocolate, earning a quiet thank you before jumping up to sit on the table with her feet on the bench. She fixes Draco's blanket that she had wrapped around her, being careful not to rip it.
"You didn't have to." Harry mutters out, looking at the hot chocolate in his hands and he was about to give it back to (y/n) when she brings out another cup from next to her with her powers.
"Don't worry, I got a cup too." the two kids sit together quietly, thinking about the mirror when Ron walks up to them. He tries to coax them both to do something with him when he noticed the glum expression on his friend's faces.
"Harry, I know what you're thinking, but don't. There's something not quite right about that mirror." he nods and Ron hesitantly walks away back to the table.
"Mirror?" (y/n) asks, pretending that she doesn't know what the boys were talking about.
Harry looks around and hops off, taking her hand to help her down. "I'll show you." the two run off away from the Great Hall back to the Gryffindor common room where (y/n) waited outside until Harry went in to get his invisibility cloak. He soon comes back out, stretching the cloak around the two of them before he leads them to the room where the mirror was. Harry drops the cloak once both of them were in the room, showing (y/n) the mirror. "I see my parents in the mirror..." the kids stand next to each other but seeing different visions. "What do you see?" he asks her, noticing that sad look in her eyes and he knew that she saw someone that she couldn't see any more until now.
"Somebody that I used to know..." the kids move to sit down on the floor together, (y/n) sharing her blanket with Harry. The both of them stared longingly into the mirror, Harry seeing his parents and (y/n) seeing the dark-haired man before with an older version of her in her place. He smiles at her, sitting down next to her to take over Harry's place so it was only them two in the mirror. She smiles softly seeing him kiss the top of her head, rubbing her shoulders as he paid attention to the blanket. "A friend gave it to me..." she whispers, reaching up with the hope of being able to hold his hand but she couldn't feel him. She frowns and the man's smile falters seeing her upset again and he opens his palm again to show her an illusion. Fireworks spilled out in the form of words confusing (y/n) but it made her heart hurt even more.
'I love you Mrs. Laufeyson'
She sees him lean his head on hers and she moves to do the same, Harry and (y/n) leaning against each other thinking it was their loved one in the mirror. "Back again, Harry? (y/n)?" The children both turn around in surprise, quickly getting up when they see it was their headmaster. "I see that you, like so many before you, have discovered the delights of the Mirror of Erised. I trust by now you realize what it does." (y/n) looks at Harry then back at the mirror.
"It shows us what we want..." she mutters out, knowing Harry wanted his parents with him and deep down in her heart, she wanted to be with the man in the mirror.
"Whatever we want?" Harry asks as Dumbledore walks towards the children, looking into the mirror.
"Yes... and no. It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desires of our hearts. Now you, who have never known your family, you see them standing beside you." Dumbledore explains as (y/n) looks into the mirror again.
The old version of herself was slightly changed, the man she saw now wearing a black avant-garde suit but another person was standing in the middle of them two. A little girl who was beaming up at the two of them while holding their hands. (y/n) teared up realising who the girl was, a mix of her and the man with her dark brown hair from her mother and bright emerald eyes from her father. She had a little name tag pinned to her dress like she was going to her first day of school.
'Frigga'
"That is why tomorrow it will be moved to a new home," (y/n) whips her head around when she heard the news, about to bargain with Dumbledore to not send the mirror away when he warns them both. "and I must ask you both not to go looking for it again. It does not do to dwell on dreams, and forget to live." the children look back at the mirror one last time before their headmaster took them both back to their common rooms.
