(y/n) - your name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The winter months soon arrived and with that brought snow that covered the land around Hogwarts, students bustling around with excitement that school was finally over and they could go home to spend their Christmas break with their families. (y/n) rushed to wrap up her gift nicely, proud of how it turned out with its green and yellow wrapping paper. She checked the time and cursed herself, putting on some shoes and a winter coat before dashing out of her Hufflepuff common room to head to the astronomy tower where Draco was waiting for her.

She was a couple of minutes late, flying up the steps instead of running up and landing on the ground before calling out to him. "I'm so sorry I'm late!" she gasps out, jogging to him as he turns around with a frown but it fades away. (y/n) chuckles seeing him bundled up in sweaters and winter coats, ear muffs on his head while his gloved hands held a wrapped gift in his arm.

"How dare you keep the Draco Malfoy waiting! He waits for no one!"

"Oh shush. I was sleeping ok!"

"That explains your pyjamas." he chuckles, looking at (y/n)'s clothes before she covers herself up with the winter coat. "What's that?" he asks her as he notices the gift in her hands but she quickly hides it behind her back.

"What's that?" she mimics, pointing at the gift in his hands and he hides it behind his back.

"Nothing!"

"Doesn't look like nothing!"

"Sure and you're hiding nothing behind your back too." both children were at a stalemate before giving up with light chuckles and showing each other gifts in their hands. "This is for you." Draco says as he passes his gift to (y/n).

"And this is actually yours." she passes his gift to him, noting how his cheeks flush pink. Probably from the cold. "It's a late birthday gift." he looks at her with wide eyes and she nods, letting him unwrap it. "Happy Birthday Draco." the boy gasps when he sees his own walkman inside the box with a pair of headphones and a couple of cassettes inside.

"This is mine?"

"Yep! I didn't know what music you liked so I made a copy of mine for you to listen to." Draco smiled widely at the gift, looking up at (y/n) with happiness.

"Thank you."

"Oh it's nothing." it really wasn't seeing as she could create this midair but it was everything to Draco. "Can I-"

"-no!" Draco stops (y/n) before she can open her gift, her jumping in surprise at the sudden shout. "It's uh, for tomorrow. To open tomorrow."

"Don't worry, I'll make sure to only open it tomorrow." she grins at him, both the children hearing Hagrid call out for the students going home. "Sounds like you need to go." the kids rush down from the astronomy tower quickly, (y/n) waiting by the Great Hall as Draco went to get his suitcases. He comes back out, the both of them holding their gifts tightly to their chests as he walks away past her. They glance at each other once more without saying anything, Draco walking out of the castle with his belongings.

"(y/n)!" the girl looks over to see Hermione walking over to her with her luggage trailing behind her, a smile on her face.

"You heading home too?" she nods at (y/n)'s question.

"You're staying here?"

"Yeah. Parents are overseas at the moment so not going home this Christmas break." (y/n) lies and Hermione manages to believe her words, the girls walking inside the Great Hall. There was a giant Christmas tree at the end of the hall covered with Christmas baubles, lights and tinsel while Flitwick levitated a star on top of the Christmas tree. Every inch of the castle halls was covered with wreaths or tinsel, making the halls sparkle with a Christmasy feel with numerous Christmas trees in every corner of available space.

The girls walk towards Harry and Ron who were apparently playing chess. "I didn't know you guys were smart enough to play chess." (y/n) muses as she jumps up on the table next to Harry to sit on it.

"Haha very funny." Harry rolls his eyes at me, Ron's Queen destroying his knight with a chair.

"That's totally barbaric!" Hermione gasps at the brutality,

"That's wizard's chess." Ron says, leaning over to see Hermione's luggage. "I see you've packed."

"See you haven't." she retorts back.

"Change of plans, my parents decided to go to Romania to visit my brother Charlie. He's studying dragons there." Ron explains.

"God help me, Hermione! I don't want to be stuck here with these two baffoons!" (y/n) mock begs the girl as she laughs with her.

"Too bad (y/n). They might need your help looking for information on Nicholas Flamel in the library."

"We've looked a hundred times!" Ron whines out, Hermione leaning closer to the table to whisper to the group.

"Not in the restricted section. Happy Christmas." she skips away leaving Harry, (y/n) and Ron looking at each other.

"I think we've had a bad influence on her." Ron says, looking up at (y/n) after. "On you too."

"Please I'm not all that goody goody."

~~~~~~~~
"(y/n)! Wake up!" the poor girl screams in fright as she scrambles away from the floating heads of her friends the second she was shocked awake.
"What the hell!?" she falls out of bed, Harry and Ron laughing when they hear her groan in pain, peeking over her bed to see her wince and rub her back before she stands up from the floor. "Where the hell is your body!? And how the hell did you get in here!?"
"Harry here got an invisibility cloak for Christmas!" Ron explains, stepping out from the cloak and his body was in full view. Harry takes the cloak off and folds it up, both boys now visibly standing in the girl's Hufflepuff dorms.
"1. that's cool, 2. get out! This is the girl's dorms!" (y/n) shoves the boys out, making them wait in the common room. "Wait here, I'll be down in a minute." the girl rushes to brush her teeth and freshen up, running downstairs to the common room where the boys were snacking on some sweets and candy that were snuck out from the kitchens. The common room was empty except for them so no one would badger the boys to get out.
"Happy Christmas (y/n)!" Harry and Ron say, the girl snorting lightly at the knitted Christmas sweaters they were wearing.
"Happy? You guys say Happy Christmas and not Merry Christmas?" the boys look at each before nodding. "Ok, Happy Christmas to you both."
"Did you get any gifts today?" Ron asks, looking at the empty Christmas tree with a frown.
"Actually I did." (y/n) dashes back upstairs to get the gift Draco gave her before he left and comes back down to the boys to show them as they beg her to open it. She unwraps the wrapping careful, amused about how much tape was used knowing Draco probably didn't know how to wrap a gift. The wrapping falls to reveal a green and black fabric, (y/n) taking it out to reveal it was a thick winter blanket with a letter attached to it.
"Just a blanket?" the boy's question but she ignores them and sets the blanket down to read the letter.
I know it's not much but I wanted to give you a reason to celebrate Christmas.
My blanket is your birthday gift since I officially take ownership of your blanket.
So, Happy 12th Birthday (y/n).
D.M~
The boys notice the wide smile on (y/n)'s face, a sparkle in her eyes that shone with happiness as she went to hug the blanket. "Yeah this is my Christmas gift and I love it." Harry and Ron shrug at how happy their friend was with the blanket, letting her enjoy it as they come up with a plan to sneak into the restricted area of the library.
I have a birthday...
~~~~~~~~

In the dead of night, Harry quietly walked into the library wearing his invisibility cloak and holding a lantern to light his way. (y/n) hovered over him without his knowledge, cloaked in her magic so no one would see her. It's been a while since she could fly around, eager to use the time to soar through the empty hallways by herself. It was a freeing feeling to be able to fly outside and through the forest trees or to just lay in the clouds. Draco particularly didn't enjoy the feeling since he had nothing to hang on to.

Yes, both kids would sometimes fly around at night, mainly staying near the astronomy tower to not get caught. That's what Draco thought but he didn't know that (y/n) could cloak them both from sight but she had to be careful not to overuse her powers so quickly or she would get exhausted. It scared Draco when she passed out one night after their flying session in front of him, her body burning like a fever and he couldn't wake her up until she woke up the next day. She made sure to not overexert herself after that because it was so hard to lie to him about why she was so tired, Draco doubting her words but accepting them.

Harry reached the restricted area, (y/n) removing the lock from the handle for him as he pulls the latch. The two of them head in after the doors swing open, the boy trying to find the book he was after for Nicholas Flamel. He takes his cloak off and sets the lamp down to grab a book from the shelf and opens it, both kids almost shrieking in fright from the man's face that emerges from the pages. (y/n) quickly slaps her hands over her mouth to not make a sound as the man in the pages screams madly and loudly, Harry immediately slamming the book shut and putting it back on the shelf in a panic.
