The gentle chuffs of a red and black train came to a slow stop as it reached its destination, stopping next to the platform under the bridge that is Hogsmeade Station and blowing its whistle as it pulls outside the platform. The lamps shone against the smoke and the night sky that blanketed over the little town, the buildings quiet and empty but the streets would soon be awakened with life as soon as the train doors opened. Children dressed in the respected uniforms that represent the great school of witchcraft and wizardry.
Hogwarts.
A sea of white shirts, grey sweaters and black cloaks filled the platform, small children lining up to look at the hugable giant that was standing before them. In the midst of the crowd, a young child stepped off the train last after the 1st year students with their hood up to ward off the cold winds. They didn't watch their step bumping into another child who scoffed and looked at the hooded one in annoyance.
"Watch where you're going!" the child scowled in annoyance at the other when they made no response. "Do you know who I am!? Draco Malfoy, son of Lucius Malfoy!" the son of a former Slytherin Prefect and pureblood wizard signalled for his goons but they stop when the other student finally raises their head to look at the platinum blonde haired child.
"I apologise for bumping into you." Draco stared into the eyes of the student behind their glasses, trying to figure out who they were and what they were doing with a strange contraption in their hand. He unwillingly lets the student go as they walk away from him, his gaze catching the sight of a skirt as she attaches the contraption to the piece of clothing and hides it beneath her cloak.
"Who do you think that was Draco?" Crabbe asks, still confused and Goyle nods at the question. "What were they holding?"
Draco scowls in disgust, figuring out who the student was. "A filthy mudblood! That pathetic girl dared to be in my way! My father will hear about this!" Draco walks towards the giant with his goons, listening to his instructions of following him to the boats. Hagrid leads the students to the boats that were waiting for them, tied down to posts until each one was filled with a certain number of students and letting them float down across the vast lake.
Lamps held by a single student in each boat shone across the inky water mirroring the night sky, rippling beneath the wood and disguising whatever could be underneath its cold surface as the boats floated to the docks on the other side. The students were in awe of the castle that appeared to them behind the thick fog, pointing at its majesty standing tall and surrounded by lights to illuminate its architecture. Hills and large fields surrounded the castle, tall rock cliffs looming over them as the moon hid behind clouds in the sky.
The students all got out of the boats quickly, ushered by Hagrid as he told them where to go from the front steps of the castle before disappearing. The crowd of first-year students separated from the rest of the years, walking together in a large crowd and into the castle. In awe of its intricate marble walls and pillars illuminated by flames, the students walked up various flights of stairs until they reach their destination.
McGonagall had been waiting for the newcomers patiently, tapping her fingers against the marble railing then standing before them at the top of the stairs. "Welcome to Hogwarts." She welcomes the newcomers, explaining the houses and house points. Draco quickly notices how McGonagall glanced at him as she mentions Slytherin, a proud smirk on his face as he nods to his goons.
Everyone was listening intently except for him as he stood on the side and leaned against the stair railing, his eyes scanning over the crowd to try and catch a glimpse of the girl that bumped into him at the station. Draco finds the girl by the glint of the fire reflecting off her glasses, taking note of how her hood was up over her head while she stood ominously behind the rest of the students in the back
"Trevor!" he looks back to the front to see some boy pick up a toad by McGonagall's feet, him quickly apologising and he mocks the boy with his goons until he catches a glimpse of a brunette with a noticeable scar on his forehead above his glasses.
"It's true then, what they're saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." Draco says with a smirk, the rest of the student body whispering to each. "This is Crabbe and Goyle. And I'm Malfoy..." the platinum blonde haired child moves to stand in front of Harry Potter after introducing his goons. "Draco Malfoy." he hears someone snicker when he introduced himself, whipping his head to the redhead next to Harry and glaring at him. "Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley." Ron frowns at Draco's words as he turns back to talk to Harry. "Well, soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort." Draco glances at Ron when he says that, extending his hand to Harry to shake. "I can help you there."
Harry simply looks at the hand extended towards him, ignoring it as he looks back up at Draco. "I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks." he says and Draco glares at him. Before he could say anything else, McGonagall approaches from behind him and taps his shoulder with rolled-up paper. He sees her and quickly decides to leave Harry alone with one last glare.
McGonagall gave Draco a pointed look before turning to the student body. "We're ready for you now. Follow me." the students follow her into the foyer and towards two large golden doorways that open for them, revealing the Great Hall that was filled with students standing on either side of four long tables from the doorway to the table. At the other end of the hall, in front of the arched glass windows, seated the professors waiting for the new first year students. There were candles floating in the ceiling, which there could've been a ceiling if it weren't for it being replaced by the scenery of the night sky.
McGonagall leads the first years to the front of the Great Hall where the Sorting Hat sat on a stool before them. "Will you wait along here, please?" the students filter to the front, standing together. "Now, before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words." the said headmaster rises from his seat at the main table, greeting the students and welcoming them before instructing them on the rules and regulations they must follow.
He sits back down once his notice was complete, McGonagall unrolling a scroll. "When I call your name, you will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses." she reads out the first name as she holds up the hat to let the student take a seat. "Hermione Granger." the anxious brunette walked up the steps before sitting down on the stool, the hat placed on her head and announcing her house as Gryffindor after a few moments. "Draco Malfoy." the boy saunters up the steps proudly, sitting down on the stool.
"Slytherin!" before the Sorting Hat even touched Draco's head, it already announced his house and he smirks at the announcement before heading off to his table that welcomed him. Each student went through the process of being sorted into their houses, none being interesting to Draco until the final student stepped out.
"(y/f/n)!" Draco finally finds out the name of the filthy mudblood but he doesn't recognise the last name. He watches as she walks up the steps, pulling her hood down to free her hair and he notices her contraption was now completely hidden from sight.
The Sorting Hat sits on her head, contemplating and rambling off with some mumbo jumbo. "Your house... Slytherin!" the table erupts into cheers with a new house member, Draco scowling at the news but everyone in the Hall freezes at the next announcement. "...Gryffindor! ...Ravenclaw! ...Hufflepuff!" The Sorting Hat sputters and freaks out before McGonagall quickly removes it from the girl's head, the students whispering in confusion and awe at how this girl was sorted in every single house.
The professors glanced at each other knowing what they must now do. "This is a very special occasion indeed!" Dumbledore announces as he stands up, extending a hand to (y/n) as she hops off the stool. Draco saw how nervous the girl seemed, pulling her hood back up as if to hide from the stares of the students. "A rare instance that only happens once every Millenium that a witch or wizard is chosen to be sorted in all houses. I expect great things from you child." Dumbledore says as (y/n) turns to look at him, a gentle smile on his face but she doesn't return one back. "Now, with your ability to be in any house, which do you choose to be a part of?" the houses all waited eagerly as the girl walked down the steps, looking at the tables before walking towards her chosen house.
"Hufflepuff!" the table erupts in cheers, welcoming the new witch into their house. Draco stretches to try and look at her, seeing the back of her hood and wondering what was so special about her.
McGonagall gently taps a knife against her wine glass to grab the student's attention after she was in her seat, requesting silence for Dumbledore as he stands up from his seat. "Let the feast... begin!" The house tables were suddenly filled with food that appeared from thin air, enchanting the students as awe and excited chatter filled the hall.
