Lost Cheer
Christmas past comes when festivities and joy doesn't last.
The yule reeper and his skeleton deer.
Cheer, fades to fear.
Many years ago was a wealthy king.
He would march the streets and sing.
Handing out candy cane treats and holiday sweets.
All would gather around, the magic of Christmas could always be found.
One year, as every year the man set out singing for all to hear.
Less people came near, naughty children threw snow and called names.
The festivities and winter games faded away.
The town folks bitter, selfish, and grey.
Had nothing Jovial to say.
Leering and sneering at the man.
How grand he looked in his red velvet coat and matching hat.
A wreath of smoke encircled his head.
His pipe glowed and his happiness showed.
He carried a pack of toys and sweets on his back.
One night the most evil of evil attacked.
Smacked him over the head robbing him blind.
Come morning the town people find him dead.
Laying in the snow with a bump on his head.
For many years holiday cheer completely faded away after that tragic day.
The old folks from the town speak of fables of that night.
Some say christmas slipped away with the old man.
For many, a tragic plight.
Many say they have spotted reindeer hoofs in the snow on the ground.
A small bit of magic still can be found.
Each Christmas eve children and people that believe dream of brightly colored gifts and toys.
All the traditional Christmas joys.
Those that don't believe, are Perceived as naughty or not nice.
The yule reeper comes to pay a visit.
The keeper of christmas past.
Gathering those whose belief and magic didn't last.
You can hear his laughter and jingle jangles near.
His eerie gleaming eyes, watching and checking twice it would seem.
Boney reindeer, the biggest of bucks.
Stamping and snorting spreading fear stand near.
Non believers are snatched away.
Some say they hear him exclaim as he fades out of sight.
I'll be coming for more souls come next christmas eve night.
