Line Eighteen: Recollection

Ohana.

"Ohana means family
Family means nobody gets left behind
Or forgotten"

1997

Congratulations! You've been blessed with a healthy twin baby boy. The doctor said to both Mr and Mrs Jeon. Tears of joy streamed down the two who has just been given a heavenly gift from God. Two healthy twin boys. One named Jeon Kookie, the other Jeon Jungkook. Their parents originally wanted to name the other Jeon Junghyun but they sticked to their original names because they are twins. Twins share everything similar. Their looks, their names, their clothes and sometimes their behavior too. Twins think alike they say.

1998

The twins turn one year old. Their parents did a birthday party to welcome all their relatives and friends to celebrate. When it was time to blow off the candles, Jungkook was on his father's arms while Kookie on his mum's. The cake was placed in the centre between the two. Blow off the candle, Jungkookieee. That's what their parents would say if they wanted to call both their names at once, by combining them. The birthday party went well and everyone left with a bright smile on their face.

1999

The two year old baby boys became more active vocally. Learning their ABCs. Trying to spell out their name out. K O K I E? Kokie? That.. My.. Name? The little one stuttered. No no my baby, it's kookie, his mother replied gently. Kookie! The older twin brother hugged his baby brother, you cute! He complimented. We love you, our precious twin boys. Their parents said as they stared down at their two boys who was engrossed on their ABC book. Wuv? The younger one questioned, what is wuv? It's love, my dear. She pointed to his heart and back at hers. Heart? The little one asked again. Yes. Heart. His mother separated the words, again, pointing her finger at his heart and him pointing his tiny finger to hers. Heart, he said. The little boy smiled and diverted his attention back to his book. And this was when the little boy understood that the heart was where love is.

Mummy mummy! The little one sprinted towards her. I want wear same outfit as Jungkook, pwetty pwease. At this age, their speech turned clearer. Not great but better. Sure thing, pumpkin. She dressed both of them with a yellow shirt and denim overalls, making them look like the minions from despicable me. Yay! We are same same, kookie. The older one left a peck on the cheek for the younger one. He really loves him even though they are two minutes apart. The little one responded by returning the kiss. The older one shines his brightest smile and back hugged the younger one: I wuv Kookie! I wuv Jungkook! And this was when the three year olds first utter the three letter word to each other.

Cartoon timeeeee, their high pitch voice screeched throughout the living room. They flickered the tv on with the remote and sat obediently near to the screen. LILO & STITCH! There came a scene, an emotional scene where Lilo explained to Stitch regarding her parent's death. Stitch found a family photo below her pillow and she said: That's us before... It was raining, and they went for a drive. What happened to yours? I hear you cry at night. Do you dream about them? I know that's why you wreck things, and push me. Our family is little now and we don't have many toys but if you want, you can be part of it. You could be our baby and we would raise you to be good. The next part was when the two little boys cry...

The next line she said with her sad cracking voice, broke the two little hearts. I remember everyone that leaves. That was what she said before placing the picture back down the pillow and close her eyes. Ohana.. The older one murmured. Their parents who was siting at the couch behind them slowly approached, circling them with a warm hug. The father said: Family. The mother said: Love and this was when the two little boys had the perfect picture of Ohana.

The perfect picture didn't last for long. Their parents had to separate. No not for a divorce. But one had to stay in Busan while the other had a business opportunity in London. Jungkook... Why is mummy daddy crying? The older twin didn't reply. All he did was went up to his parents with his adorable pleading eyes.. Ohana. Their parents looked at him. Remember Ohana. It hit them hard, that word never fail to leave an impression in their heart but they got to do what they got to do.

They sent them off to the airport. The twins cling their hands together. It's time to go, kookie. No! The boy retorted. Mummy please no... His hand still clasped tightly to the elder. We have to, kookie. We have to. Her voice started to crack. We will meet each other again. Jungkook... Kookie... Tears streamed down both their cheeks. Slowly, their father pulled Jungkook back while the mother did the same action to Kookie. Their hand frailly fall to their side. With tears in the little boy's eyes, he mouthed: Ohana means family.

"And family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten" a tear drop landed on the only family photo I have of us looking happy having a picnic at the park. The irony that our favourite childhood cartoon was Lilo & Stitch yet we ended up the same fate as them. Parents both dead and we having to deal with it. I am aware that I've a twin brother. How can I not when he was the one who kept repeating and burying the word Ohana to me when we were little.

Sadly, i didn't apply it though. I chose to forget him because the pain of remembering our happy memories breaks my heart. I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss him. In fact I miss him wholeheartedly, I even applied his name to mine. I wanted everyone to call me Jungkook to remind me that my brother has never left. That he is in my heart. That now he has become a part of me.

Taehyung doesn't know. To him, Kookie is my nickname when that's actually my real name. They say Ohana doesn't only mean family blood ties. It can also mean anyone who you can relate to, who you see and treat them as your own Ohana. You'll never know how much that word would have an impact on someone. Even though we adapted that from a cartoon, it left a deep impression to us. It's a been a week, the only time I see Taehyung is during office hours. Other than that, I'll come up with excuses saying I've to do this or that. I'm busy with my photography course or the twins need me.

Speaking of the twins, I'm sincere in our friendship. I didn't become friends with them to study their behavior. You can say that seeing them made me miss my older twin even more but I try to hold it back. I pretended I didn't know I had a twin in front of the twins because I'm afraid they would share to it Taehyung. I never want that to happen.

The doorbell rang. I dragged my feet to the entrance and open the door. It was Kim Taehyung.

"We need to talk"

"There's nothing to talk"

"Can I at least come in?"

"No. You can say whatever you want here"

He sighed.

"Jungkook.. I-I know who J.Terry really is.."

"Why are we talking about a stranger?"

"He isn't a stranger" Taehyung looked away. "He is your father"

I pretended to be shocked when I clearly already know who J.Terry is. "Wha- So you-" I backed away a few stops, my jaw hung low.

"I'm... So... Sorry"

"You mean you knew all along?"

"Y-yes. I'm so sorry"

"Sorry doesn't cut it. Fuck off" I slammed the door shut. He knocked on the door continuously repeating I'm sorry. I waited for the knocks to stop before I made a call to my twin brother.

Jungkook: Your decision?

Kookie: I choose Ohana

- Call ended -

Over at Taehyung's side of the story...

"You think he's figuring it out?"

"I think someone is helping him"

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is he knows that I've been acting all these while"

"Well you are a high class actor, believe me he won't figure it out" the handsome lad smirked.

"I hope so" Taehyung leans closer to the handsome lad, giving him a peck on his lips.

"I love you, Eric"
