Chapter 5: Spying (Part 2)

Victor's POV

"Ethan, I know how much this pisses you off kid but you need to start listening to her. You're stressing her out," I spoke in a stern tone as I looked at him laying back on the couch as he swiped through the air. He currently was projecting the internet through the air and searching through the internet on any information on Kai and Liam.

"No," he mumbled as he continued to swipe through files, "I'll listen when those assholes are gone," he growled referring to Kai and Liam.

I rolled my eyes, "She wouldn't -"

"Vic," he called me by my nickname as he looked at me, "I appreciate your concerns right now but they're all focused in all the wrong areas. Now would you come over here and help me," he shrieked.

"Fine!" I shouted in defeat to which he smirked.

I sat next to him and we spent about an hour looking through files. It was the same thing repeated on each file. Liam and Kia were rich and brothers. Their parents were dead and had no living relative. Their parents had a history of mafia business to which it's safe to assume that Kai and Liam are now running it.

My phone rang and I pulled it out my pocket to see it was one of the drivers. "What is it?" I answered the phone.

"Boss, the girl came here with a guy and walked into the library. I think she's looking for the kid," he spoke. "Send me pictures," I ordered before hanging up.

"Your sister is looking for you. She's by the library," I informed him.

Ethan used his powers to change the internet and pulled up the surveillance feed. One the side, I saw he had Freya's number in the air. He then pulled out his phone and I watched as the screen was filled with blue writing before Freya's voice came through it. Ethan had tapped into Freya's phone to hear what she was saying. We then turned our attention back to the live security footage. She was walking back to the car to the driver's side but then back around the passenger's side before getting in.

"Any luck?" the masculine voice asked. I felt my blood boil and my body tensed up. "No," a soft voice spoke out. I then felt a bit broken as I missed the sound of her voice.

"Well, I'm taking you out to eat. I'm kind of starving," the guy spoke as he started to pull off. Ethan flipped through the security camera as he tracked them along the way. He thn zoomed in revealing the guy in the passenger seat. It was Liam.

Freya was going to say something but he cut her off. "Look, I know you're worried about Ethan. I'm pretty sure he's okay and doing fine. When he comes home you can talk to him. For now, we're going to get some food," he spoke but it came out more like a demand.

Without saying a word, she let out a sigh and nodded.

Moments passed not long before they pulled up in front of a Burger house. The took a window booth and I watched as the server made eyes at my Freya. He just introduced himself as their server but Freya looked zoned out as she was looking at the menu. Liam then snatched it out her hand before smirking at her.

"Stop looking at the price. I'm ordering for you and paying. I know if I give you the menu back you'll just pick a salad because you want to be nice," he laughed. Of course, money was no problem for him because of his inheritance and his job but she didn't know that.

Her eyebrow scrunched up with curiosity, "You know me a bit too well," she admitted. I could tell she was a bit uncomfortable with him. Her body was tensed and her eyes were focused on him.

"I try," he shrugged.

They spent some time talking before eating their food that soon arrived. Freya smiled as she truly enjoyed the burger. After they finished, they headed back out to the car but Liam grabbed Freya's hand causing her to stop.

"Let's walk around a bit," he suggested but the way he spoke was more of a demand. As if she really didn't have an option.

Don't do it, baby girl.

"Sure," I spoke a bit unsure of her decision.

I let out a sigh of defeat as they both started to walk. My eyes then trailed to Liam who was still holding her hand. "Let her hand go!" I shouted a bit annoyed. They walked a further bit more and Freya seem to realize they were still holding hands. I watched as her eyes widened and she released his hand before shoving it into her jacket.

"So tell me about yourself. Why did you move from your hometown all the way out here?" he asked as they continued to walk.

I'm pretty sure he knew everything about her and about what happened. It was clear he was just pretending to be interested to get closer to her.

"That's way too specific," Ethan mumbled.

I watched as Freya didn't answer him right away. She just looked around at the flat screen television displayed on the building. She then looked back at him with an eyebrow raised, "That's a bit specific," she mumbled saying the same exact thought Ethan had.

A small smile rose to Liam's face but I could see the annoyance behind it. He was annoyed at her questioning his curiosity and her stubbornness to open up to him. "I'm just curious. Kai never told me what really happened," he spoke trying to convince her, "And I'll be around for a while so you might as well tell me about it," he added.

"There used to be this guy that controlled the town. He was the most dangerous person to step foot in front of. No one dared told him otherwise because everyone feared him," she trailed off as if she was remembering.

"Were you scared?" he asked.

She nodded my head, "Yes but not as much as everyone else. Anyways, his stepbrother, Cain, went to my high school and he picked on Ethan. Normally I would be the one to beat Cain up for picking on my brother but Kai stepped in and gave him a much bigger ass whooping than I ever could," she chuckled.

Although I hated Kai, I got to admit I was kind of glad Cain got his ass whipped that day. He never knew when to stop.

"After Cain's stepbrother found out, he came after Kai and Ethan. I then ran into him and begged him not to do anything to which he offered a deal. I took the deal which was if I went out to eat with him and hung out until midnight or so, he wouldn't touch them for a month. We both held up our side of the deal and the next day he hung around with me. Apparently, the deal never included me," she mocked.

I couldn't help but chuckle.

A small smile rose to her face, "Making a deal with him was like making a deal with the Devil. He'll find some loophole when you least expect it. He's one smart guy. Never should be underestimated," she mumbled. It was true.

"So what happened next?" he asked. I could see he didn't really care for the details. He just wanted to know how she worked around me.

"We got closer and I started to have feelings for him even more. I -"

"Wait, what do you even more?" he questioned cutting her off.

I turned to Ethan with the same questioning look at Freya's statement. Ethan just shot me a toothy smile before looking back at the screen to which I did too.

"Well," she trailed off a bit nervousness in her tone, "I've always sort of liked him but when I saw how cruel he was, I just stopped thinking about it. But it all came back when he and I started to grow closer. As I got to know him, I knew that he was the way he is because of the things that happened to him," she spoke.

I frown as I remembered I told her what my father dad to me. I could see the sadness in her eyes as well as she too remembered the story.

"What happened to him?" Liam asks with his eyebrow raised. This time he was actually curious.

Freya bit her lip and shook my head, "It's private. Moving on," she continued the story, "Ethan I found out there was a gang fight going to happen so we left town with him chasing after us and the other gang. This went on for a while and in the end, I was kidnapped and he rescued me. Everything finished and he got shot then died. We should head back to the car," she spoke before quickly turning back around and crossing the street.

I could see the pain in her body and in her eyes. She didn't want to remember what happened.

"I'm sorry," Liam spoke as he ran up behind her, "I didn't mean to put you in a bad spot," he spoke in a soft voice as he grabbed her shoulder. "It's fine," her voice cracked. She was trying not to cry.

He then pulled her into his chest and hugged her. "I'm always here for you," tried to sound convincing. I watched as she hesitantly hugged him back and I felt my blood boiling in anger. My the camera angle, I could see Liam smirking as he knew he had her somewhat.

"You need to start trusting me. Whatever you want to tell me, you can always say it," he smirked harder but she couldn't see it since he was still hugging her. They walked back to the car and continued to talk about random stuff to which Ethan just shut everything off and went back looking at me.

"You need to tell her you're alive. We have enough proof, she should believe us and even if she doesn't, we can pry it out of Kai," he spoke in a soft tone. I let out a groan and rubbed the back of my head, "It's less about her believing, to be honest," I admitted.

He started at me for a second before understanding, "You're trying to protect her," he filled in to which I nodded.

"Kai and Liam are all over her now. If I butt in a try to take her way, they'll come after her. They seem to have a need to be close to her but I don't know why yet. Until I figure it out, I'm not appearing. I also need to be prepared to kill them," I spoke in a stern tone.

"That, I could understand. She's heading home now and I need to be there before she gets back. I'll leave her audio to her phone on and I'll have a different tab for Liam's audio so you can listen on him as well," he spoke as he grabbed my laptop and opened it.

He looked at the screen and it started to have red letters written on it before Freya's voice came through then Liam on the other tab. He then lowered the volume and placed it on the table before putting on his hoodie.

"I'll try to keep her safe from them but there's only so much I could do. Liam is manipulating her and she doesn't even see it. If you hear something that seems off or feel like something bad is going to happen, let me know or intervene if necessary," he informed me.

I nodded my head, "Will do kiddo. Thanks again and try to listen to your sister, will you?" I fist bumped him before he walked into the elevator.

A smirk rose to his face, "I'll listen when you tell her you're alive," he spoke as the elevator door shut.

"Awe, that's an asshole move," I chuckled to myself.
