The Prodigy
My friends gasped. "What do you mean you can't find it? Where did you drop it?"
"I don't know...maybe on the battlefield," I said, looking down.
"So, we have to go there again?!" Asuka shrieked.
"There is no other choice..."
We made our way to the deserted place once again. We looked around everywhere trying to find the scroll, but it was nowhere to be found.
"Where can it go?" Hotaru wondered aloud.
"Maybe we should go to Captain Chieko and ask for her help!" Asuka suggested.
"Good idea."
We went to the base where we asked a few people about the whereabouts of the captain. They told us that she was practising in the training ground.
As I opened the door in the corridor leading outside, we were greeted by the sight of the female warrior polishing her skills.
"Captain Chieko!" I called out.
She faced us. After sheathing her sword, she came up to us. "What's the matter? You all look tensed."
"Yes, actually we -"
"Miss Chieko!" I was broken off by the voice of a male.
We turned back. A boy came running towards us, waving his hand. He stopped in front of Captain Chieko and said in an excited tone,"I finally did it! I finally figured out!"
"Woah! Calm down, Hiroto! Did you finally complete it?" the captain asked with a smile on her face.
"Yes! And..." A blush spread on his cheeks. "I want you to ride with me first..."
"Aww...that's so sweet."
"Ride what?" The words spilled out from my mouth.
The red-eyed boy looked at me, annoyed.
"Stop ruining our moment!" he said.
"Oh, sorry..."
"Calm down, Hiroto. This is Hiroto, an engineer. He invents different kinds of machines that help us in our fight against Kiyomi's beasts."
"He's so young," I wondered.
"And right now he is working on a machine that can fly in the air!" the captain added.
"A machine that flies in the air? You mean a plane?" Asuka raised her eyebrows.
"A plane, huh? I like that name...Okay, I'll call my machine 'The Plane'!" Hiroto said in excitement.
"What are we in now? The 19th century?" Asuka rolled her eyes. I tried to hide my smile.
"Nevermind," the boy faced Captain Chieko again. "I want you to accompany me in the first flight, Miss Chieko..."
"Ooohhh...looks like someone likes the captain," my green-haired friend teased the boy. Hiroto's face became red. He was clearly embarrassed.
"S-Shut up, you!" he stammered.
Asuka giggled.
"Can you show us the plane, please?" I asked.
"Well...okay," he hesitated a bit.
He took us at the back of the training ground. There I saw a huge garage with the gates wide open. Through the gates, I could see a structure that resembled the very first model of a plane. I guess he was talking about that thing.
"Wow! This looks so cool!" Asuka stared in awe.
"Yes, it really is wonderful," I said.
"But there is one problem with it..." Hiroto's voice trailed off.
"What is it?"
"This model works with respect to the circulation of air. If there is no wind, then it won't fly..." he looked dejected.
"I see..." I said.
Captain Chieko looked concerned at Hiroto's state. Suddenly, her face lit up and she turned to me.
"Natsu, can you do something about it?"
"Oh, umm...I'll try..."
Saying this, I stood in front of the structure and raised my hands high above my head. I concentrated all my powers about me.
A light breeze encircled my body. As I focused some more, the wind picked up speed. I directed the wind towards the plane-like structure.
The plane rose a bit above the ground.
"What the -" Hiroto was surprised to see this.
"Yes! It's working!" Asuka clasped her hands in joy.
I put all my strength into it but it was getting hard for me to raise the huge thing. I gritted my teeth.
Just then, an idea popped into my mind.
I looked up and raised my hands, directing the wind towards the wings of the plane. The air in front of the wings circulated in the same way as a jet engine does in a modern plane.
All gasped as the structure got lifted above our heads!
"Woah!" Hiroto cried.
I slowly landed the structure onto the ground as I stopped to catch my breath. I was panting really hard. My friends came up to me.
"Are you alright, Natsu?" Hotaru asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay...thanks," I said as I breathed heavily.
Captain Chieko put a hand on my shoulder. "Thank you so much for helping Hiroto."
I smiled. "You're welcome."
"That's it!! I got it!"
We got surprised at Hiroto's sudden outburst of excitement. It seems that being smart makes a person a bit eccentric as well.
"What is it, Hiroto?" the captain asked the boy.
"I figured out a way to make the plane less dependent on wind! I can add blades to the front which will help it to fly!"
"That's cool!" Asuka cried out.
"Isn't it? I am a genius after all!"
"Since they have helped you, why don't you return the favor by taking them to their next destination by your plane?" Captain Chieko asked him.
A gloomy look came over Hiroto's face. "Uh...but...okay."
I giggled. But my amusement was cut off by the sudden realization of the situation we were in.
"Umm...excuse me, Captain Chieko, but we need your help," I said.
"Help? What is it?"
"We lost the scroll and can't find it anywhere!"
"Scroll? You mean this?" Hiroto took out something from his coat.
The scroll!
"Where did you find it?" I asked him, taking the scroll.
"I found it while I was crossing the battlefield. I thought it was unusual so I took it."
"Thank you so much!"
"Natsu, now ask the scroll," Hotaru said.
"Yes. Scroll, where to -"
"Captain! There is an emergency!"
A soldier came running up to us. His face was as white as sheet. "What's the matter?" the female captain asked.
"The Beast Army! They have attacked us!"
