Chapter Two

After departing from the airstrip, we made our way through a small, Argentinian costal town in search of a hotel.

I pulled my bag over my shoulder, stepping onto the old street, locals milling about on the sidewalk.

"So, where'd you hear this story anyway?" I asked.

Noel walked in stride next to me. "The daughter of a Waffen-SS soldier."

   "Sounds reliable." Kali chimed in.

I let out a chuckle. "What'd she say?"

Noel rolled her eyes. "She said her dad was on the u-boat. That he and his men were ordered to transport the gold out of Berlin. They were under strict orders to hide it here in Argentina."

I rubbed my chin thoughtfully. "That's a lot of gold to hide in the middle of nowhere."

"There was a lot of Nazi activity here after the war. And, with that much gold, they must've been planning something pretty big." Kali added.

Before I could answer, someone bumped into me, stopping me in my tracks. I looked up, locking eyes with a beautiful woman. "Pardon me." She said, a thick German accent rolling off her tongue.

I raised my hands, flashing her a little smirk. "No harm, no foul."

She returned it, giving me a little wink before continuing past us.

I watched her leave, her hips swaying slightly as she walked.

Noel cleared her throat, then. "We're here."

I turned back to her, an expression on her face I didn't quite like. "What's with the look?"

She just shook her head. "Nothing..." Then, she walked into the hotel.

I stood on the sidewalk, looking after her.

"Smooth." Kali said, walking past me.

With a little sigh, I followed them inside the hotel.

We stood at the front desk, a nice, old woman greeting us. "How can I help you ladies, today?"

"We need three rooms." Noel said.

The woman flipped through a big, leather bound book. "I apologize, but we only have two available."

"We'll take 'em." I said, reaching for my wallet, but it wasn't there.

I started checking every pocket as Kali payed for her room. "Good luck, you two." She said before heading off to her room.

"Don't worry, I'll pay for it." Noel said, pulling her wallet out.

"No, I know I have it, just give me a second." I replied, searching my back pack now.

Noel payed for the second room. "C'mon, you can pay me back later."

I looked up into her eyes. "Fine, let's go."

We headed down a short hallway, doors on either side. Noel stopped in front of one. "This is us."

She unlocked the door and led me inside. Both of us froze when we saw the single bed in the middle of the room.

"You've got to be kidding me..." I said.

Noel looked around the tiny room. "No couch..."

I dropped my bag, closing the door. "I'll sleep on the floor."

Noel turned to me, then. "Are you sure?"

   I nodded. "Yeah. It's fine."

   She shrugged. "Suit yourself."

I watched as she made her way into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

With a huff, I sat at the small table, unzipping my bag, determined to find my wallet...

After half an hour or so, I gave up, slumping back with a sigh.

Then, the bathroom door opened, Noel drying her hair as she walked out. "Any luck?"

"No-" I started, but froze when I saw her. She wore an oversized shirt and nothing else.

She let her damp hair cascade over her shoulders, her skin still glistening from the shower, small droplets of water running down her long, toned legs.

I swallowed hard. "I, uh... I must've lost it on the plane or something..."

She tossed the towel onto the small table, sitting in the chair in front of me, crossing her legs. "That's ok, if we find what we're here for, you'll be able to buy a million wallets."

I smiled a little as she stretched her arms over her head, leaning back, her shirt pulling up ever so slightly, a hint of white lace peaking out.

My heartbeat quickened, my jaw clenching. Then, I noticed Noel starring at me, a little smirk playing at her lips. "My eyes are up here, you know?"

I shook myself back to reality. "Sorry, um, we should get some rest."

Noel looked out the window at the setting sun. "You're right... Goodnight, Nat."

I sat still in the chair as she stood. "Night..."

As the hours ticked by, I laid awake on the hardwood floor, trying everything I could to get comfortable. To no avail.

   Finally, I groaned. "This sucks..."

"Why don't you join me, then?" I heard Noel say.

I sat up on the floor. "I-I didn't know you were still up..."

She propped herself up on her elbows. "Your hushed grumbling kept me up. Now, c'mon, there's plenty of room."

I let out a sigh, thinking over my options.

"Sometime today, Nat." Noel said, laying back down.

I slowly stood, gingerly approaching the bed. Noel pulled the covers up. "It's not like we haven't done this before." She said.

My body stiffened as I slid into bed next to her, pulling the covers over myself, staring up at the ceiling.

"Better than the floor, right?" Noel asked.

   I nodded. "Yeah..." Much better...

I woke up first the next morning and, to my surprise, Noel's head was on my chest, her leg intertwined with mine, her arm draped over my stomach.

My body froze, before eventually settling into her. I closed my eyes with a happy sigh, lightly wrapping my arms around her. To say I missed this would be an understatement.

I breathed in the scent of her shampoo, she still used the same brand.

Then, she started to stir, quickly realizing she was on top of me. She sat up, averting my gaze. "S-sorry... I must've rolled over in my sleep..."

I sat up as well, looking down at my hands. "It's ok... No harm, no foul..."

After a minute of silence, she rolled out of bed. Her back was to me, her eyes taking a quick look at me from over her shoulder before she pulled her shirt over her head.

"So, are you seeing anyone?" She asked.

I ran my eyes over her exposed back, then down to her white, lace panties. "Um, no... Are you?"

She pulled a pair of cargo pants on. "No... I guess I just haven't found the right one yet..."

"Maybe you already had the right one..." I whispered to myself.

"What was that?" She asked, pulling a shirt over her head.

I quickly stood. "Nothing... I'm gonna go check on Kali..."

Then, I was out the door, leaning back against it as I closed it. "Why did it have to be her..?"
