THREE. austin vs. trent. vs. charlotte

CHARLOTTE WASN'T stupid. She would never, ever call herself that. She was exceptionally smart and would do anything to see everyone succeed... well, not everyone. She had morals, and she knew right from wrong, and she knew that if she were going to want to see her friends thrive, she would have to do the unthinkable.

She sat outside Mini's, a new restaurant in the mall, and Trent soon approached her. The same guy who had flirted with her while he was dating Trish to get a job as Austin's backup dancer... that guy.

"Charlotte, right?"

She glanced up and watched as he took a seat in front of her.

Charlotte knew that Trent remembered who she was, and she knew that he wanted something from her. She didn't know what it was just yet, but she knew he wanted something.

"Yeah, Trent? How can I help you?"

"It's been a while... how are you?"

"Is there something that you need, Trent?"

"Can't I just sit with a pretty girl?"

"No."

"Look, I'm sorry for how things went down between you, Trish, and I, but don't you believe in change? Trish does."

"Trish forgave you?"

"Yeah. Why? Don't believe me?"

"I don't, but I am supposed to be meeting my friend in a few, so..."

"No, I understand. Just wanted to sit and talk. Apologize and see if I could get that opportunity for the date."

Trent stood from his seat, and as he turned slightly, Charlotte noticed the CD in his pants, Ally's handwriting sticking out to her.

"Hey, wait." She called, "One... date. After all, Trish did forgive you, right?"

Trent smiled, "Of course! Tonight?"

"Yeah... make sure to bring that CD. Your song?"

Trent pulled the CD out and glanced down at it, "Yeah... yeah, for sure."

Trent waved Charlotte off, and she sat back down at the table. Cheaters never won, and no matter how mad her friends would be with her, she knew what she had to do.

SHE JUST wished she had the opportunity to tell the others why she did what she was doing. Charlotte wasn't a snake, and she would never go behind her friends' backs to hurt them. She had a good reason to do what she was doing.

That first date with Trent wasn't her favorite, and she wouldn't consider it her top ten best, but he had spilled the beans and left one too many personal items out for her to see. One of those items? The CD that she had seen. It was a recorded version of the song Ally had written for Austin, and he finally had the time to record it. Obviously, it had been out long enough for Trent to see, take it, record it, and call it his own.

Trent, just like Austin, had blown up overnight, and people adored his soul-sounding song, Got it 2. And with his special appearance on Entertain ME Tonight, he revealed that he had a girlfriend (Charlotte) and a rivalry with Austin.

Not only were her friends floored, but Austin was devastated. Of course, Charlotte could move on. He had slightly (no longer dating Brooke), but to move on to someone who had hurt Trish and was actively flirting with her while doing it was something different. Jealousy could be assumed.

Charlotte walked into Sonic Boom that day, and all eyes were on her. Devastating look on her friend's faces as Trent and his new Dez look-a-like friend, Dex held smiles on their faces.

"I accidentally stole the CD, I accidentally shot a music video, I accidentally stole your girl, and I accidentally... Oh! Made the song a big hit. My bad." Trent smiled.

"Charlotte," Trish approached, "how could you?"

"What did you tell them?" Charlotte asked Trent.

"He didn't have to tell us anything. The news did. I'm your best friend. You couldn't tell me about your new boyfriend?" Carter asked.

"Boyfriend? I don't have a boyfriend. I was only-"

"He's the enemy, Charlotte." Austin said, "This isn't fair."

Charlotte faced him, "What isn't fair?"

"You dating him."

"Why not?"

"Because-"

Austin paused. Charlotte had every right to move on and date whoever she pleased. She was always supportive of who he had chosen to date, and he just couldn't seem to show that same support for her.

"He's not a good person! You and I both know that!"

"Trent and I aren't-"

"Happy with your reaction, Austin." Trent said, throwing his arm over Charlotte, "Char, here was telling me that she was happy that she could be with me, and she could only hope that you would be supportive of that. Guess not, babe."

Charlotte and Austin held their stares. Austin wasn't wrong. Trent wasn't a good person. He was willing to steal, lie, and cheat to get whatever he wanted, but Trent was also right. Charlotte could only hope that Austin could support her next relationship just like she had done with him. She understood why he was upset with her; the whole "pretending to like your best friend, flirt with your ex, and get a job" tactic was horrible, and Austin thought she could see that.

"I would never hurt any of you." Charlotte said, "If you just-"

"I really don't need to hear why you're dancing with the enemy." Austin said.

"They're not dancing." Dez spoke.

"He stole my song! He's trying to be me! Do you not see that?"

"Austin-"

"Are you going to lie to my girlfriend, Austin?" Trent asked.

Charlotte held her head back slightly. There was no escaping this. She had enough dirt on Trent to last him a lifetime in isolation. Her friends weren't even going to allow her to defend herself. She knew Trent stole the song, and he even stole the concept of one of Austin's old music videos.

"Are you going to give me a chance to explain myself? Or do you only listen to what the media has portrayed?" She asked.

"What's there to hear?" Austin questioned, "It's obvious who you've chosen."

"Obviously not."

Charlotte had come to Sonic Boom to tell everyone about the whole ordeal, but it was clear that she wouldn't get that opportunity. She turned to face Carter and grabbed his arm, grabbing a random pen from the cup holder on the desk and scribbling quickly on his arm before grabbing her "boyfriend's" arm and left the store.

Carter glanced down at his arm and struggled to read the sloppy mess. Something about knowing her better than herself. Something about how "coupley" Trent and Charlotte acted stood out to Carter, but it seemed like no one on team Austin was going to give her the benefit of the doubt.

CHARLOTTE WAS frustrated. She sat in a lounge chair in the mall and had been sitting in that same seat for hours. She was concentrated and was trying to get this thing done before Austin and now Trent's appearance at the Wanda Watson show.

She heard the chair from in front of her move and glanced up. Carter sat down and watched her as she began looking back down at her laptop.

"So... they're mad at you." Carter chuckled.

"Thanks for the notice, Sherlock."

Carter sighed, "You're right. I do know you like the back of my hand, but I love drama, and I think this has been the highlight of my week."

"Is there something you wanted, Carter?"

"To hear your side." He answered, "I'm your friend first."

Charlotte stopped moving and looked in his direction. He seemed to be genuinely concerned about her. She had these feelings for Austin, and she had just gotten close to Ally, Dez, and Trish. Carter knew she wouldn't jeopardize that on purpose.

She shut her laptop and sighed, "I know what Trent did and-"

"But you're dating him anyway?"

"I'm not dating Trent. I didn't even know he told the news that until you mentioned it yesterday." She answered, "I noticed the CD that he mentioned taking in his pants, and I recognized Ally's handwriting on it. I was only trying to see what his motives were and to see if he would spill any beans... which he spilled a lot of."

"So, you were only trying to-"

"Protect Austin? Yes, I was."

Carter smiled, "I bet he's gonna feel stupid. What's the plan now?"

CHARLOTTE AND Carter stood backstage at the Wanda Watson show. Austin, Dez, Trish, and Ally still not on speaking terms with the curly-haired teen.

Carter took notice of the four standing close by and approached them.

"Hey." He smiled, "Charlotte's here."

"Great." Austin sighed, "First, he steals my song, my music video, my television appearances, and now he's going to drag Charlotte to everything."

"I think you guys should hear her out. She's not dating Trent."

"What?" The four of them questioned.

Carter didn't have time to answer their questions as Austin was put into his seat next to Trent. The cameras rolled as the interview started.

A small TV had been placed in between Wanda and the two boys. The cord to the TV had been connected to Charlotte's phone, and she hit play on the video that she had made.

The video basically a confession from Trent on how he stole Austin's whole upbringing into the music career. Not only was he embarrassed, but he also had thousand of bees beginning to swarm around him because the cologne (which he also stole from Austin) contained honey.

This incident made big news, and Trent was never going to live that down.

Austin, on the other hand, was never going to live down, not allowing Charlotte to defend herself.

Charlotte sat at Mimi's the next day. Everyone had been talking about Trent's failure of an interview and how he was listed as "crybaby of the week."

Austin saw Charlotte sitting alone, a book by her side, and a small drink. He dragged the chair closer to her side, causing her to glance up.

"Carter told me everything."

"Did he?"

"He did. I'm sorry."

Charlotte shut her book and rest her one hand on her head, leaning against the table slightly, "I was never in a relationship with him."

"I know that now."

"But he was right."

"He was?"

"I hope that whenever I get into a new relationship with someone that I have your support." She smiled softly, "Your opinion matters a lot to me, but for you not to listen to me and support me sucks."

"I realize that. I can't thank you enough for what you did for me at the Wanda Watson show. I should've listened to what you had to say. You support me and I support you."

"Team Austin and Charlotte." She smiled.

"Always."

"Can I trust you?"

Austin says upright. Charlotte had always been very open with honest. There was nothing that he wouldn't do for her. Yes, he was hurt that she had moved on from him, and that person that she "was in a relationship with" had been trying to ruin his career, but no matter what, if Charlotte needed him, he was going to be there.

"Of course."

"I know that we aren't... considering dating each other right now, but whenever you're ready... I am too."

Austin paused. This could be his moment to openly do anything to prove that he was also ready for this relationship with Charlotte, but he froze.

Charlotte smiled softly and stood from her seat, "You know where to find me, Moon." She said, kissing his cheek and leaving him alone.

Austin Moon could get his girl back... too bad a Starr stood in the way of that.
