SEVEN. somethin' a matter with a kiss
A ROLLERCOASTER could describe the current status of Austin and Charlotte's relationship. Up and down and all around. It was a never-ending cycle of will they won't they, and it seemed to be that won't they was pulling in for the win.
Debate after debate. Argument after argument. The final stage: convincing.
Carter, Dez, Ally, and Trish were all trying to get either Charlotte or Austin (mainly Austin) to get the other to confess some feelings for each other, and it seemed they the other wouldn't budge unless the other came to them first.
They felt hopeless. They felt lost. They felt like the world was caving in.
"What if we got Austin and Charlotte to sing on stage together?" Dez asked, "Doesn't Austin have that show for Ally's mom?"
They felt hope. They felt powerful. They felt like the world was finally on their side.
All they had to do was convince Austin and Charlotte to sing together that night, and maybe, just maybe, something would click.
The last time Austin and Charlotte actually sang together was when they were screaming their heads off at the Bruno Mars concert, but more seriously, the last time they actually sat down and sang together was back when they were dating. Maybe, this was the thing that needed to happen for them to realize what they could have again.
"Dez!" Trish smiled, "That's the smartest thing you've ever said!"
So, the plan was in motion. Ally would help Austin write the song, Trish and Dez would try and keep anyone from ruining this plan, and Carter would convince Charlotte to help to introduce Ally's mom to the crowd, and bam! Austin and Charlotte sing and do whatever couples do after that.
That plan seemed easy, and it was, but if you Carter Montana, you had to do more than just talk to Charlotte to get her to do something.
"Why would I introduce Ally's mom? Couldn't Ally do that for her mom?"
Carter sighed, sipping on his drink from Mini's, "Look, Ally is helping Austin write a song for the show. She knows how well-spoken you are, so she trusts you."
"I don't know about that. Maybe I could try and help Ally calm her nerves so she could do it herself. I know if my mom had just come back from a long trip, I would want to talk about her and not some random stranger."
"You aren't a stranger! You're Charlotte Taylor. Who doesn't know you?"
Charlotte held a small smile, "I'll talk to Ally about this later."
"You can't. She specifically asked me to come to you because you can't tell me no."
"No. I'm not welcoming Ally's mom back from her trip."
"Well, you can tell me no, but that doesn't mean I'll listen."
"Why can't Trish do it?"
"You think Trish is going to give a meaningful welcome back?"
"And you think I can with a person I don't know?"
"Yes!" He exclaimed, "This is no different than giving the speech to a bunch of randos at graduation."
"Who said I was speaking at graduation?"
"Me! Look, I control your life at this point. You're like my little doll." He explained, "I tell you what to say, I control your actions, and all you have to do is be pretty and smile. That should be easy."
"What do you get out of this?"
"What is this? Twenty questions? This is a favor for Ally. You're friend Ally Dawson."
Charlotte sighed, "Fine. I'll do the speech or whatever."
Carter smiled, "See, it wasn't that hard. Now come on, we've got a speech to write."
As Carter grabbed Charlotte's hand and dragged her to a more quiet area. Austin and Kira sat down at a table, their food in their hands.
This first half of their (Carter, Ally, Trish, and Dez) plan seemed to work, but they couldn't prevent what Austin or Charlotte could do, but they really wish they could.
CHARLOTTE RUBBED her hands together, rocking back and forth on her heels as she prepared to give a speech for a person she had no connections with.
She was slightly worried about how this speech would go. She went over it a thousand times with Carter and Ally, and they reassured her that everything was going to be okay... and if not, Carter was going to make them.
"You're going to be fine." Carter smiled, "Breath. All you're doing is giving a speech to a stranger. It could be worse."
Charlotte held squinted eyes as she glanced out into the crowd. Ally's mom sat with Ally's father. The crowd was remarkably larger for this welcome home party.
"Go out there and wow them."
Charlotte grabbed the microphone from his hand and made her way on stage, the crowd applauding as she drew closer.
"Hello, everyone." She smiled, "I'm Charlotte Taylor, a friend of Ally's, and I'm here to give a speech on her behalf, welcoming back her mother, Ms. Penny Dawson."
Slow claps started as she continued with her speech, "Though I've never met Ally's, she has raised such a sweet, brave, and beautiful daughter. She's an amazing songwriter and vocalist, and hopefully, one day, she can come on this stage and wish a big and happy welcome to her mother say day." She smiled.
Soon, Charlotte's speech came to a close. She began to walk off stage and Ally's mom grabbed her forearm.
"Aren't you staying? To sing the song with Austin, right?"
"What?"
Austin walked onto the stage. Ally's mother smiling bright as she saw Austin approaching.
"Ally said you two were singing tonight."
Charlotte nodded slowly and held a small smile. She glanced towards Cater. He had shown her this song that he said Ally had specifically written for Austin. She knew the words because Carter had forced her to read a thousand times.
Ally's mom ducked from the stage as she introduced the two of them.
"Do you want to do this?"
"Can't say no know." Charlotte smiled.
Once the two of them finished their song. They quickly left the stage.
Austin pushed his guitar to the side and wrapped his arms around Charlotte's torso. Giving praise to her for singing on stage, mainly, singing on stage with him.
Carter, Ally, Trish, and Dez watched from the sidelines as the two of them held each other close and talked in hushed tones.
Soon, Austin grabbed the sides of Charlotte's face, brushing her cheeks slightly and kissed her.
Their plan had worked miraculously... until.
As the two of them pulled apart, the sounds of Kira's feet approached.
"Austin." Kira smiled, appearing from the shadows, "I thought about it. I will be your girlfriend again." She said, pulling him in for a hug.
They felt hopeless. They felt lost. They felt like the world was caving in.
All because Austin Moon moved too quickly for them.
