EIGHT. the breakup that started it all

CHARLOTTE TAYLOR always wanted to be a doctor, nothing could change that. She didn't want to be a teacher like her mother or a contractor like her father. She wanted to be a doctor and help people every single day.

She just didn't know if Austin saw that same dream of hers. She adored her relationship with Austin and nothing and no one could change that. She knew that her relationship with Austin was special.

From when he rejected her to when she rejected him. The first tragic date, the almost I love you. And now the breakup.

She didn't want to break up with Austin honestly, but she had pushed his dreams of being a pop start before her own and it seemed that Austin had been doing the same thing.

At school, Charlotte participated in anything that could get her further and further into her career... Austin rarely showed at conventions, competitions, or whatever Charlotte had because he was so busy trying to make it, but so was she.

But what she didn't know was that Austin had asked Dez to record every event he couldn't make it to and being his best friend, Dez did it without hesitation. If Austin wasn't there in person, he always got the chance to watch the events when he was home.

But Charlotte didn't know that. No one told Charlotte that. So, when Austin didn't show up for a competition that he said he would show up to, she was furious.

Dez stood with Austin in his bedroom as he passed Austin the recording of Charlotte's competition.

The two of them jerked their heads up as they heard hard knocking on his door.

Austin quickly shoved Dez into his closet and Austin swiftly opened the door, leaning against it as he smiled down at his girlfriend.

"'Sup?" He smiled.

Charlotte held her first place ribbon in the air and pushed her way inside the room.

"You got first!" He cheered, "That's great! Why do you look angry?"

"I'm angry because you promised that you'd come! Time and time again, you say you'll come and never show!"

"Charlotte... I know and I'm sorry, but I was busy-"

"Busy with music." She sighed, "I know, Austin. This isn't fair. I'm always with you when you're doing the music thing. You're never there for my competitions."

"I went to the last one... I went to the first one!"

"And you think that's fair? I've had several competitions and you've only been to one, but when it comes to your music and your career I'm always there. That's not fair to me, Austin."

"Well... what's fair?"

"Doing this on my own. You working on this music career, on your own. I think that's fair. For the both of us."

"Are you... are you breaking up with me?"

"I don't want to, but I can't keep being there for you when you aren't returning the same gesture."

And that was that. The begging, pleading, and the closing of the door. That had been it for Austin and Charlotte and they knew it would take time to rip the bandage off and repair the relationship... but maybe that time was coming soon.

CHARLOTTE HELD her dreams in her hands as she and Carter made their way towards Sonic Boom.

Like Carter had mentioned, over the course of the time Austin blew up on the internet to now, he and Charlotte had grown significantly closer in a short amount of time. She had always said she would stick by him when he has grown into a successful musician and she wasn't wrong.

She could only hope Austin would do the same for her.

She finally spotted Austin and quickly approached him.

"I've been looking for you." She smiled.

"And I've been waiting for you."

Austin flipped the magazine in his hands and showed Charlotte the promo for his debut album.

Charlotte held her wide smile as she grabbed the magazine from his hands, "No way! This is amazing, Austin!"

"Was there something you wanted?"

"Oh!" Charlotte continued looking down at the magazine as she passed Austin the paper.

Austin read the words over and over again. He couldn't believe it, but at the same time, he could. Charlotte had worked just as hard as he did for a career in the field that they wanted.

Charlotte had gotten an internship at the children's nursing center... in Boston.

She had mentioned it a million times while dating Austin and how she was going to apply and work her hardest to get to that.

He had finally taken the steps to get Charlotte back into his life and it was all coming down because she was going to be moving to Boston. It wasn't like a bus ride. Austin loved Charlotte for sure, but he didn't want to hop into a relationship with her, just for her to leave soon.

"Congratulations Charlotte." Austin smiled and pulled the girl in for a hug.

Celebration for all. A bittersweet celebration. Both teens had gotten their dream jobs, but one just so happened to be sad about the other moving in the meantime.

"Hey, I'm having a party for my album. You should come."

"There's no way I'm missing the Austin Moon's album release party." Charlotte smiled.

Austin would miss that. Her smile. She smiled all the time. Never wanted to see anyone down. Austin could see why she wanted to be a doctor and he knew that she would be good at it. He would miss that. He would miss her.

A COUPLE of weeks had flown by and by now Austin's debut album had been released and he was now having a party for the release of said album.

While the party had been a success and quickly dying down. Austin saw Charlotte standing near the exit.

"Charlotte, you can't leave." He approached.

"Leave? Where am I going?" She asked.

"I regret a lot of stuff that happened between us and I can't let you leave without telling you how feel and felt for a while."

"Austin, what are you talking about? Where am I-"

"Charlotte... I still like you and I don't think I've ever stopped and I wish we didn't break up, but you had every right to do that because I wasn't there and that was my fault, but look at you now. You're going to Massachusetts to help people and can't hold you back from that because you never did that to me. You've always been there for my dreams and you still are. I... I couldn't let you go to Boston without telling you that."

"Boston, Massachusetts?" Charlotte questioned, "Austin, it's called the Boston-Miami Children's Nursing Center. It's in Miami. I'm not going anywhere."

"It's in Miami?"

"Yeah. I mean, there's one in Boston with the same name, but I chose the one in Miami. It's like, thirty minutes from the mall."

Austin chuckled awkwardly, "Oh... then all of... that was not for you."

"Hmm, how many Charlotte's do you know?"

"I said all that because I thought you were leaving and your not now-"

Charlotte took a couple of steps forward and slid her hand around the nape of Austin's neck. Charlotte held a small smile and pressed a firm kiss to Austin's lips.

It took less than a second for Austin to relax and rest his hands on her waist, returning the kiss.

"What about Carter?" Austin asked pulling away.

"What about Carter?"

"Aren't you two..."

Charlotte smiled, "No. He actually... we're not together, Austin."

"So we are?"

"I didn't say that either."

"We just kissed! What do you mean?"

"We did do that. Um... Austin. I do like you a lot, but I don't know if ready for a relationship with you."

Austin nodded.

"I think I'm scared of repeat." She sighed, "I know you're a great guy and I know you're a great guy to be with, but I can't be team Austin without being on team Charlotte first."

Austin sighed, "Team A and C?"

"A and C."

The duo had so much more in store and the waiting game definitely wasn't on their side.
