chapter 5
Chapter 5
It was a tough day. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the quiet streets, Naruto and Genji trudged home from school, their backpacks slung over their shoulders. The air was crisp, hinting at the chill of autumn, and leaves crunched underfoot, a sound that echoed the tension between them.
Naruto, with his signature spiky blonde hair, was dressed in grey sneakers that scuffed slightly with each step, white leggings that hugged his legs, and light blue shorts that seemed a tad too big. His white shirt bore a small emblem of a cartoon fox, and he wore a short-sleeve kitty blue hoodie that was a bit oversized, giving him a cozy, childlike appearance. The white fighting gloves on his hands were a reminder of his past life, a testament to the training sessions he had endured back in Konoha.
Genji, on the other hand, exuded a more laid-back vibe. His black sneakers were sleek and stylish, and his black tight jeans accentuated his athletic build. He sported a brown shirt that contrasted with his dark denim jacket, which was slightly worn at the elbows, hinting at his laid-back lifestyle. The two brothers, though different in style, shared an unbreakable bond forged through shared experiences and challenges.
“Naruto, what’s going on with you, little bro?” Genji asked, concern etching his features as he glanced sideways at his younger sibling. He could sense the weight that Naruto was carrying, even if he couldn’t fully understand it.
Naruto frowned, his brow furrowing as he kicked a pebble on the sidewalk. “It’s nothing. I just got another B-minus on my test,” he mumbled, his disappointment palpable.
Genji raised an eyebrow, a mix of confusion and surprise crossing his face. “I don’t understand. Why are you upset then? That’s still a good grade, right?”
“What if it’s not good enough for Mom and Dad?” Naruto replied, his voice barely above a whisper. “I heard other parents expect A’s or A-plus’s from their kids. You always do better than me, so you have nothing to worry about.” His words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of expectation.
Genji took a moment to process it all, feeling the familiar tug of empathy for his brother. Ever since they had moved to this new country, life had been a series of adjustments and challenges. The transition from the world of ninjas and shinobi to a typical school life had not been easy for either of them. They had left behind the burdens of their past, but the pressure of fitting in and meeting expectations in this unfamiliar environment loomed over them like a dark cloud.
Their parents, recognizing the difficulties they faced, had enrolled them in therapy, hoping to help them navigate the complexities of life in a world that didn’t understand their unique backgrounds. They were learning to adapt, to find joy in the mundane, while also grappling with the remnants of their old lives.
Genji placed a reassuring hand on Naruto’s shoulder, grounding him in the moment. “Hey, it’s okay to feel this way. You’re doing your best, and that’s what matters. I know it’s tough, but you’re not alone in this. We’ll figure it out together.”
The brothers walked on, their footsteps in sync, the bond between them strengthening as they faced the uncertainties of their new life, together.
