Chapter Nineteen
The breaths you were taking were involuntarily. Having three short breaths per second. Your head was beginning to fly away, floating in the middle of nothing. Your eyes were wide as you were trying so hard to calm your breaths down. Only the sound of your beating heart was pumping in your ears as two familiar figures appear in front of you. "I didn't know what to do, so I brought you! I'm...I'm so sorry (Y/N). I'm so useless," Hinata says as tears filled her eyes along with mine.
"(Y/N). Deep breaths. Inhale with all your power through your nose. Exhale will your strength through your mouth." Kakashi's right hand lands on your shoulder as his left one was swaying up and down, influencing the breathing method. He begins to do the technique along with your trying. Yours were unsteady as you looked deep into Kakashi's eyes. They didn't hold their usual dullness, instead the his pupil was shaking as it grew, becoming larger.
After so many breaths, you felt so light headed that your head was bobbing back and forth weakly. Your hand lands on your chest as you felt it's drumming slow down bit by bit. Sarutobi didn't permit any of the students see the sight, being kept in their classroom. A gulp only you can hear sounds from Kakashi's throat before he exhales some relief. "Thank you for looking for me, Hinata," he turns towards her, landing his hand on her shoulder as the other one was still on mine. "It's alright that you don't know how to manage this situation. I'll show you sometime. You did a good job."
Your eyes were now shaking. Becoming cups of water after your breathing calmed down. Sobs sounded from your throat as you grimaced at yourself. "I can't believe myself." You barely say, fighting the knot in your throat that your crying was now relieving. Your back bends itself as you set your hands on your knees. Shaking your head as you latch your hand onto your chest once again. "It hurts Kakashi. My heart hurts so much." Closing your eyes, your lips tremble at Kakashi's touch.
The grey haired teacher turns his look on his fellow professor and says, "I can handle it from here. I'll be taking her to the school nurse," he says and pauses for a second before speaking again. "with your permission of course, Professor."
The old man nods his head quickly as he opens the door, having the gossiping girls and other students fall onto the floor for eavesdropping. Hinata's face was filled with just one emotion. Anger. A rare bit of Hinata that is rarely seen. Her eyebrows higher as veins around her eyes pop out. Giving a foreboding glare to all of them. They quickly realize it and run deep into the classroom, more terrified of Hinata than their own angry professor as well. "Don't worry (Y/N). I'll deal with them." Your best friend says as she stomps her way into the classroom furiously.
The words you wanted to tell her were caught in your throat. Don't worry about it.
As soon as Kakashi's sees all classrooms closed, he wraps his arms around you and hugs you tightly. Your head squashes against her broad chest, being able to hear his unsteady heart. The situation made him nervous. "Your heart won't be hurting forever." He hushes your sobbing as he pat your head, smoothing your hair softly. You lock your hands over his back, returning the hug exhaustedly. The embrace was beautiful. You couldn't help but admire how well it works for situations like these.
After what seemed like a too short time for you, he separated himself from you. Pulling you over towards the nurse. Your footsteps were echoing in the long hallway before you end up in an abrupt stop. Your look brings itself away from the floor, curious as to why Kakashi stopped his movement. At the end of the hallway, your eyes met Kiba. Who was holding a wooden bathroom pass. His mouth gaped open at the sight of your red eyes and bit of swollen cheeks.
He quickly made his way towards you both and gives Kakashi an intense glare as Akamaru growled at him. "Why the hell are you taking her to the office? She couldn't have done anything, she's your best student!" Kiba argues as he tries to pull your hand away from Kakashi's, causing you to flinch away from his touch. Your head squeezes itself into your neck, trying to hide away your fear. Kiba froze with surprise as you push him away. You couldn't help it. It was your instinct kicking in. But realization slapped you as you realize Kakashi holding your hand.
You let him touch your shoulder. You let him hug you. You let him hold your hand. This was progress. Only four days have passed from the incident and Kakashi has already made touch with you. Your anxiety from Kiba washes away at the thought, feeling relief spread itself in your chest.
But it quickly washed away as you notice the way Kakashi was holding your hand. His fingers were entangled in yours. It's common that only romantically involved people do this. If you fingers weren't spread onto his, then it would seem fine.
His eyes landed on your hands. But he didn't know what was bothering him more. The fact that you nudged away from him terrified or how questionable your holding hands seems. Kiba's look somehow seemed drained of life. You realize what his face was wearing was betrayal. And somehow, you felt as if you did betray him. By not being honest with such a close friend as himself. "She is an amazing student. I am not taking her to the office, but to the nurse. (Y/N) is not feeling well."
Kiba was now staring into the distance. You couldn't look him in the eye so you were glad his eyes were elsewhere. Though your nerves were wrecking your insides once again. "This isn't even your class period for her. Why isn't Professor Sarutobi taking her?" His suspicion gives away in his tone.
"I understand you both are good friends so I will leave it to her to decide whether she desires to explain or not. But this is not the time to be explaining. She will be taken to lie down." Kakashi says, trying to be as patient as possible.
"I'll talk to you later Kiba." You whisper, still not being able to look at him. Kakashi quickly brings you away from him. But Kiba's eyes continued lingering upon you. And you were beginning to feel terrible and lunging away from him.
Maybe you could think of an excuse for now. Because you definitely did not want to explain the real situation. You knew he would end up living with you to not let anything else happen. He would also hunt down the man and feed him to the other dogs from his home.
You were beginning to think Kiba is too good to you. Always watching out for you. Always wary of your feelings. If you were your normal self, you would most likely bite away his protectiveness. But you weren't. You were vulnerable once again. And everything was clashing down you.
Your parents died just a few months ago. You're falling in love with your teacher. Now people were beginning to suspect you and him. And you have been sexually harassed.
You can't bare to think of the R word
Kakashi and you arrive at the infirmary and the nurse quickly comes to you, holding on to your hands. It was an old lady. Her grey hair was beautifully draped onto her shoulder, twisted into a braid. Her white robe was long, reaching her knees. She had some glasses hanging on the tip of her nose. Worry filling them completely.
You glance at her name tag and see the name Kubo. "Good morning, Kubo. Miss (L/N) here had a terrible panic attack. I have brought her to you because it was extreme enough to pale her face. I was worried she would faint." Kakashi says smoothly as he pulled his hand away. Not letting the school nurse notice a thing. Her eyebrows furrow in pity as she brings you to a white bed. Looking over your surroundings, the color white is actually all you can see. The walls, chairs, floor, and of course the bed.
"She is quite pale. Lay down, little lady. This is something we should wait out. If you seem to receive another attack," she brings a count bell and sets it upon the table next to the bed. "tap this. To take away the paleness, I will bring some fruits from the office. Do you have nausea? Headache?" You shake your head at her before she sets a warm blanket over your shoulders. Her smile of relief is very welcoming for you. The light in her eyes made you notice that she actually does care about the students from this school. "Very well child. What fruit do you prefer?"
"Any is fine. Anything except tomato. I really dislike tomato alone." She nods as you lie down on the bed with Kakashi by your side. The nurse eyes him as if she had forgotten his appearance.
"Oh my apologies Professor. The girl is in good care, feel free to go back to your class." She says before slipping out of the door. Leaving you both alone. Your eyes lay onto Kakashi. A part of you wished you could receive a gentle kiss from him. Just a small one on your cheek or forehead. And the other part of you was calling you an idiot for such a desire.
Kakashi sits on the white chair and catches your eye. A small smile was creeping up on his lips at the sight of you. "I hope you're falling in love with my eyes." He abruptly says, causing your heart to stop for a moment. Your tongue goes dry as you look down onto your feet while playing with your fingers.
Neither of you have mentioned the word love. It was too strong of a word. Too restricting. But how couldn't he mention it by now if he's leaving the school for you? You've even slept with him, yet the word terrifies you. Though, he just said eyes.
"How couldn't I have already? It's the part of you I mostly see daily, even in their dullness. They're alluring." You pause. "I know you've fallen for mine though." Your eyes. They were a plain (E/C). But your mother always described them as a deep hole. A mystery a town would speak of and intrigued of it's steepness. Curious enough to throw themselves in, and feel pleased by the end.
Silence filled the air. Not awkward silence though. It never is between you two. Quite the opposite, it was. Comforting you both. But Kakashi knew that needed to end.
"Will you tell me what exactly caused the panic attack?" He asks, glancing down at his own fingers. Kakashi felt stupid asking. Assuming it was the what happened during the typhoon. The last thing that he expected was what came out of your mouth.
"Some girls behind me were gossiping that I sleep with you to get a good grade." Now, the silence was unsettling. This was bad. Very bad. For the both of you. But even worse for Kakashi. His reputation will be ruined if this got out. No one would accept him as a teacher anywhere.
After a minute or so, Kakashi moves his mask a bit and speaks up, "I don't need to say the word technically. It's not true."
"Not completely. No. But this will spread, Kakashi. It can start as something untrue but if they pursue us, if anyone does, they'll find out." You say before Kakashi's fingers begin to tap the table next to him. In thought. Events of the morning begin to rush to you. Wondering for a solution that would be able to cover up this scandal. To stay sane, you wanted more than anything to feel regret for being with this teacher. But it just won't come. You make you too happy to be able to wish anything else. Who else would be able to do that? Who else would even want to date you?
One person flashes through your mind. Just one. Long haired figure in university. White eyes, far too familiar to his cousin.
Neji.
"I think I may have just the idea of what we can do. But you're really not gonna like it..."
