Requested by @sophiewasherelolz
I hope you will enjoy it. As for the other one shot that you asked me to do I am sorry, but I can't think anything to write about it.
Enjoy this one. 😊
....
Life is unfair, but still it has the most interesting plans.
Or that's what I thought.
He was a branch family member, looked down upon and scorned by the elders of his clan. She was a bastard child born from a mother who killed herself out of shame when her child opened her eyes and they were the pale lavender of the Hyuuga clan instead of a normal shade, like her own and her husband's.
They had known each other since they were small. All the way before his father was killed and he'd become cold and indifferent. They used to be friends, thrown together by unlucky circumstance, and then Neji opened the first wound in the girl's heart.
-"You're not even an official Hyuuga!" Neji spat at her suddenly.
-"At least I'm not a bastard like you!" (Y/n) said as her eyes glimmered with tears.
-"Don't blame me when you will end up alone in the future!" she screamed at him and run away.
After that everything between them change. Someone would call them rivals, but a more fitting word was enemies. Even if they didn't want to see each other that was impossible. They were in the same year in the academy. They were so caught up in their antagonism towards each other that neither had made any friends.
Neji ended up on a team with "useless" people, as he called them. He wasn't too happy at all. On the other hand, (Y/n)'s teammates consisted of a perfectly competent Inuzuka and a Yamanaka, a team that complemented her own strengths. They were lucky enough to get a special Jounin - and a Hyuuga - as their sensei too.
-"Have fun with your team!" (Y/n) sing-songed smirking as she followed her team out the classroom.
Through the years no one did a move to improve their relationship. Things were just getting worse. Or that's how it was supposed to be. There was a period of three years where they actually managed to trade words and have playful arguments, while beating each other up on clan training guards. That somehow repaired their relationship that had been broken for so long.
-"You know something?" (Y/n) said awkwardly as she laid on the patch of grass that they had somehow not destroyed after their training.
-"I'm sorry for everything I said back then."
Neji turned to look at her from his position beside her puzzled. He wasn't expecting that at all.
-"For saying that your father deserved to die and all that other stuff." she said as she laughed nervously.
-"I apologize for what I said as well." Neji mumbled as he looked at her.
-"Then we are good?" (Y/n) asked him smiling a little.
They were more than good. After that little conversation they started getting closer, like friends. That shocked many, but soon everyone accepted it. After all its not like someone could get between them. This time the friendship they had was much stronger than last time. They didn't know what made them come so close to each other, but they didn't care to find the reason. They were happy to be back together as two good friends.
Soon a friendship between them wasn't enough. Not for (Y/n) at least. Her feelings towards Neji increased with time and soon developed into a small crush. She thought that she would get over this due to their past, but she was wrong. The crush soon developed to something much bigger and before she knew it she had fallen hard for him.
-"(Y/n)?" Neji asked her suddenly winning her attention.
She looked at him curious as she stopped preparing her weapons. He deserved more her attention than anything else.
-"How is this war supposed to end, (Y/n)?" he asked her looking at his hands.
(Y/n) stared at him in silence as Neji stood in the middle of the tent. The war was stressing everyone out, some to their breaking points. And Neji was in one of his moods where he felt like he was nothing because of the mark on his forehead. (Y/n) hated it when Neji got that way. He acted differently towards her, towards everyone that came into contact with him.
-"Neji-"
-"I love my cousin Hinata, but am I supposed to die for her?" he asked her interrupting her.
-"Am I required to die for her to keep her safe? Or will it all end with a happy ending for all involved but me?" Neji asked again as his white eyes flicking over towards (Y/n).
(Y/n) hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to say to him. He had come a long way since he was a young child, but just like she had thought before, Neji was one of those people getting close to their breaking point. His father had died for the head family, so why shouldn't he too? She could only assume that those were indeed his thoughts, but she wished that they weren't.
-"No Neji... I think you're supposed to live because you want to live." she answered softly.
-"Do I though? I know I'm a skilled shinobi, but after this war, will I go back to being the man I once was?" he questioned, causing her to sigh.
-"Only if you let yourself become that way, Neji. You've got potential. And a mark on your forehead be damned." (Y/n) stated, standing in front of the Hyuuga with her hands on her hips.
-"Stop acting like the mark on your forehead makes you who you are. You were doing so well about that until this war. Have you forgotten what Naruto taught you?" she asked him softly.
-"It is hard to keep a positive mind in a war like this. I feel like every time I see someone I care for in danger, that I should be the one to throw myself in front of them, that my life means nothing compared to those that could really become someone or something to the village."
(Y/n) put her hands on Neji's cheeks with all the courage she could master, lifting his head to make him look in her (e/c) eyes.
-"Don't ever think that way Neji... Your life means something to me. I wouldn't be here otherwise without my friend." she said with a soft smile.
-"I apologize (Y/n). I sometimes forget that you are there for me and I let my demons take over..." he stated and kissed her softly on the forehead making her blush.
-"Lets get ready now for the war, great Hyuuga-sama." (Y/n) said embarrassed as she let go of him and returned to her weapons quickly.
-"I told you to stop calling me that." Neji said a little annoyed.
-"I love that nickname. It suits you." she answered smiling a little at him.
Nehi let it pass and turned his back at her. Truth to be told he liked her. He didn't know if that was a friendly love or something bigger, but he knew that he wanted to protect her. He was ready to put his life at risk for her. He was ready for everything.
At the war (Y/n) and Neji fought beside each other. They protected each other back, like a team. Someone would have mistaken them for a married couple. The way they acted and fought it was like they had been made for each other, ready to fill the other's gap like couples do.
(Y/n) knew that people would die in this war. She knew that her friends would possibly die. However, she didn't expect it to be Neji. They were all tired. They were all hurt. And they all watched as Neji took the giant spike that meant for Naruto.
It took her a few minutes to understand what had just happened. They had separated for a few minutes. Only a few minutes. And then she found Neji in Naruto's arms injured as he talked with Hinata. He was hurt. He was suffering. He was ready to die.
-"Neji!" she screamed as she run at him.
Neji smiled sadly as he watched (Y/n) dashing through the shinobi around her, coming to a halt behind Naruto. She started crying quietly as Naruto gently lowered Neji. (Y/n) caught him in her arms immediately as she held him for dear life against her body crying harder.
-"Don't cry." he whispered weakly.
-"I am not crying." she answered as her tears dripped down onto his face, the glow of her healing jutsu making them more obvious.
-"Stop...(Y/n)... save your chakra for something else." Neji told her making her choke out a teary laugh.
-"Whatever you say, great Hyuuga-sama." she said and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
-"I love you."
Neji smiled at that. It was a true smile full of love and happiness. It was his last smile, because after that his breathing stopped and he died.
He died leaving (Y/n) alone in a world full of hate and pain.
-"NEJI!"
Life is a unfair, isn't it?
.....
The end.
Sorry for the sad ending. I just thought it would suit him something like that, since I couldn't think anything better.
My writing style isn't author's POV so I am surprised that this one developed like that. I wanted to make only the beginning at author's POV, but I didn't know where to stop so I continued till the end. I am really happy with how good this turned out.
I hope you liked it, as much as I did.
