Rapunzel
Once again, the world decided that it was going to ruin their lives. It was raining and there was no enjoyable activity that they were allowed to do. There were no board games, and they had already tried charades, and had been forced to resort to their current activities. Rapunzel was on her second hour of staring at the Professor's portrait; he was a pasty white man with silver hair and a monocle sat between his nimble fingers. Jack was busy being moody and staring at the rain. Merida and Hiccup were playing a guessing game involving another language.
Rapunzel stood up and walked over to the two, interrupting their game, and dramaticly exclaimed, "I'm bored! Let's do something!" Hiccup and Merida exchanged glances, silently agreeing that sleeping was more entertaining than this. "I will gladly do something else!" Merida exclaimed. Rapunzel let out an excited gasp, "We should play hide and seek!" Hiccup, noticing Jack's mood, decided to include him. "Are you going to play Jack?"
He took about five seconds to make his decision. "Sure," he said, walking away from the window seal, "I'll be it." Before anyone could protest he began counting. Hiccup, Merida, and Rapunzel took off running, looking for the perfect spot to hide.
Hiccup darted through the rooms before he found a spot that caught his eye. An old chest that appeared empty. He walked over to it only to notice a black cat sitting on the top. The cat hissed at him, not letting him get within a foot of the chest. Carefully, Hiccup reached out his hand to move the cat and stopped just out of reach. He made eye contact with the cat who began rubbing his head on Hiccup's hand. "See? No reason we can't be friends," he whispered. Hiccup carefully picked up the cat and set him down next to the chest. Dragon tilted his head curiously at Hiccup, but didn't move. Hiccup lifted the lid of the chest and climbed in. He smiled at Dragon before closing himself in. Dragon meowed at the chest before climbing back on top of it and curling up.
Merida rushed through the halls, eager to use her competitive energy. Curtains could work, but they were too predictable, like hiding under the bed. Finally she found one that satisfied her: a black bear rug that was mounted on the wall. She lifted it away from the wall and hid behind it, ensuring that none of her could be seen.
Rapunzel was having a little trouble finding a sufficient hiding place. Nothing seemed to work. She ran from room to room until she found one that was unlocked. She darted in, closing the door behind her. The room was empty, window seals covered in dust, except for one large object looming near the back of the room. There was a large white sheet draped over it, giving it an abandoned feeling. Rapunzel cautiously stepped towards it and pulled the fabric off of the enormous object. The fabric fell around her like snow, soft, yet cold.
A large wooden wardrobe loomed over her. She smiled. It would be the perfect hiding spot! She could easily blend in with the coats in the back. With a cautious hand, she reached for the handle and opened the door. She stepped inside and closed the door. She held her hands behind her as she backed up. The coats seemed to be endless. After about ten steps the began to wonder if she was moving at all. Then she felt something. Something that wasn't a coat. Something that was prickly.
She whipped around, fearing that there was something, or someone, in the wardrobe with her. It wasn't a person. It wasn't a creature from her nightmares. It was a tree. There was a tree in the wardrobe. Why, and HOW, is there a tree in the wardrobe? Rapunzel didn't know. She turned her back to the door and reached out to touch it to reassure herself that it was there. She followed the branches further into the wardrobe and came out in a forest.
A pine forest that was well into winter, snow coating everything. In front of her was a lamp post with an oil light. 'How was there a fire burning when there's no one to light it?' she thought. There were no footprints anywhere, so no one had been there in a while. She walked over to the light post and touched it, leaving fingerprints where the frost had melted. It was truly a magical land.
A shuffling in the snow. Like the soft sound of bed sheets being crumpled. First infront of her, then behind, everywhere. Rapunzel looked around in fear. Some animal was stalking her. She needed to get back to the wardrobe, but her fear blinded her. She couldn't seem to remember where it was. All the trees looked the same.
Screaming. Rapunzel's voice and someone else's. They had jumped behind a tree just like she hid behind the lamppost. After gathering herself, she opened her eyes and looked at where the person was. It was a man about 20. His hair was a dark brown like hers. He seemed harmless, trembling behind a tree. Gathering her courage, she stepped out from behind the lamppost and reached down to pickup a bag he had dropped. It was a brown satchel, something heavy inside.
"W-w-who are you?" Rapunzel asked. She hadn't gotten a coat and she was beginning to get cold. "Who wants to know?" he asked. "Me. Rapunzel," she answered, handing him his satchel. "Are you with the Queen?" he asked, hesitant. "The Queen?" she asked, confused. "Ah," he said, seeming to understand that she knew nothing of his situation or who he was. "Come with me. She has ears everywhere," he said, leading her further into the woods. "But I don't even know you. How do I know you're not kidnapping me?" she said, stepping away from him. "Look. You have absolutely no reason to trust me other than the fact that if we don't hide now we're both dead." She didn't like it, but it didn't seem that she had much of a choice. She took one last glance at the lamppost, memorizing every detail, and followed him.
