Thunder and Comfort

Edmund shot straight up, hearing his eldest daughter, Ivy, crying in her room. He slipped out of bed, hearing the rain pouring down outside, and then lightning flashed. Thunder boomed throughout the palace, and he heard Ivy cry out again.

"Daddy!!" He hurried to her room, and went in, finding her curled in a ball, crying.
"Hey, what's wrong?" She looked up, her blue-green eyes glistening with tears.
"It's loud, daddy. Why does it have to be so loud?" He smiled slightly at his daughter. She was nearly a picture image of him, with the same raven black hair, paler skin tone, and blue-green eyes.

"I'm not sure, baby. It's alright, though." The thunder boomed again, and she yelped, scrambling into his lap.
"Hey, it's okay. You want to know what thunder is?" The seven year old looked up at him, her eyes wide.
"What?" He smiled, gently rubbing circles on her back.
"It's Aslan roaring. He's just really far away, and it's a lot louder than when your aunt Sierra turns into a lion and roars." She gave him a confused look.
"But one of the dwarves said that he can't be real, since he hasn't been seen in so long." He smiled slightly at his daughter, and chuckled quietly.

"That's not true. And don't tell Sierra that. Aslan....He made her his daughter after her mum and dad died." She stared at him, her eyes wide.
"Really? Whoa. That's crazy." He nodded, smiling.
"Yeah. So you don't have to be scared of the thunder anymore." She smiled, and the thunder boomed again. This time, she only looked up, startled.

"Will aunt Sierra get mad if I say there's someone who doesn't believe in Aslan?" He nodded, chuckling slightly.
"Yes. And that won't be good for any of us if she's mad." She giggled, and within minutes, was asleep on her dad's lap. He smiled, laying her back down.

      "Sleep well, my little princess."
