Accused and Poison

Edmund stared, shocked, as the man pointed an accusing finger at his wife, Cahira.

"You can't possibly say that it was her!" He said, having to bite down a few unkind words.
"I know what I saw, my king! She turned to me, and I saw her face, plain as day! Your majesty, I know it is hard to accept, but I saw her. She was the one who attacked me and my son." Cahira stood to the side, Emme in her arms. Sierra sat beside Edmund and Peter, who had his eyes closed and was trying to think.

"Edmund, was Cahira with you last night?" Peter asked quietly, and Edmund shook his head slowly.
"No. She went to the potter's to get a couple of ink pots." He said quietly, his heart sinking. Sierra nodded.
"I was there with her for awhile. I had to leave before her, but she was there. You can ask him." Edmund looked at Peter, who shook his head ever so slightly. That wouldn't be good enough.

"We'll figure this out, Drinilan. In the meantime, go finish fixing your house. I will send someone for you when we figure it out." Drinilan sighed, and he turned, leaving. But what they didn't notice was that he went the wrong way after leaving the room. Peter leaned back, sighing heavily.

"This is a new one." He said, rubbing his eyes, and then he looked at this brother and sister-in-law.
"Cahira, did you attack them?" She shook her head, gently bouncing Emme.
"No. And I know simply my word won't be enough for him." Edmund took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. Sierra slid her sword out, glancing it up and down.

"Whoever, or whatever did this will probably try again tonight. I'll hide nearby, and wait. Hopefully we can catch whoever actually did this." Peter nodded, and he quickly kissed his wife, and she left. A couple hours later, they all headed to dinner, minus Sierra, who had already left.

"I don't understand." Caspian said, sitting across from Edmund, who sighed.
"I know it's not true, but it's his word and his son's word against Cahira's." He looked confused for a moment, and then took a sip from his goblet.
"What did you say the man's name was?" Peter swallowed, looking up.
"Drinilan Kaydenson. Why?" Caspian's face paled as Cahira took a sip from her goblet.
"He doesn't have a son. He's never been married, nor had children." Just as the last word left his mouth, Cahira nearly choked, dropping the goblet. She looked deathly pale, and her hands were shaking.

"Edmund....." She gasped, and tried to stand. He nearly flew up, just barely catching her as she slumped to the ground. Peter shot up, a roar of fury escaping, and four guards crashed in.

"Send a dryad for the Queen Sierra immediately!! And send for the apocathary!!" He said, his jaw clenched, and Caspian put a hand on his arm.
"What can I do?" Peter turned to him, fury visible in his eyes.
"Find that man, and have him arrested. Immediately. Under charges of lying to the king, and for poisoning Cahira." Edmund held her in his lap, cradling her head close to his chest. Her face was so pale, whiter than the reindeer Father Christmas had......And it terrified him.

"Please don't leave me, love. Please don't go."
