1. Escaping London

Elizabeth woke up to the sound of planes and air raid signals.

"Ellie! Come on! Hurry!" Her older brother Peter yelled as he ran down the stairs.

She jumped out of bed and grabbed a couple of books, a picture and a torch, switching it on as she ran down stairs.

"What do you think you're doing?! Peter!" She heard her mum call. "To the shelter! Quickly!"  Elizabeth got down just in time to see her mum handing Edmund over to Peter.

"Come on!" Peter pulled Edmund with him as he made his way out the back door, the girls and their mum following.  The noise was deafening outside. As they ran to the shelter Lucy screamed as planes flew overhead.

Helen Pevensie got the door of the shelter open and Susan and Lucy got in.

"Wait! Dad!" Edmund broke away from Peter and ran back into the house. "Edmund, no!" Helen screamed.  "Ed!" Peter and Elizabeth yelled, running after him. "Peter, Ellie! Come back!" Helen yelled at them. "Mum get in! I'll grab him!" Peter shouted over his shoulder as he and Elizabeth ran into the house.

They ran into the front room and found Edmund standing near the big window holding a picture.

"Get down, you idiot! Get down!" Peter shouted at him as he pushed Edmund to the ground, pulling Elizabeth with him. A bomb went off close by and the window shattered into millions of peices.

"Come on you idiot! Run!" Peter yelled at Edmund, grabbing his arm and dragging him up. Edmund's fingers took hold of the picture frame. Elizabeth followed them, making sure that Edmund wasn't going to ran back in.

They ran out of the house, heading for the shelter door which their mum had left open which was pretty dangerous. They saw their mum appear in the doorway.

      "Hurry!" She called.

They got there and Peter harshly pushed Edmund in and he landed roughly on one of the mattresses lying on the floor. Elizabeth immediately rushed over to him, kneeling beside him. Susan and Lucy looked on from their corner of the shelter, scared at the turn of events.

"You never think for anyone but youself! You're so sour! You're so selfish! You-you could have gotten yourself and Ellie killed!" Peter yelled at Edmund.

"Stop it!" Helen ordered, looking sternly at Peter before turning to Edmund. He lay there panting and whimpering, looking at the picture he held in his hands. Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat as she saw who was in the picture. It was their dad in his army uniform. Their mum pulled Edmund in a hug, rubbing his arm. Elizabeth placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Why can't you learn to do as you're told?" Peter asked quietly, a look of annoyance on his face.  Edmund looked up at him, glaring.

"Peter..." Elizabeth whispered softly, giving her brother a look.

Peter shook his head disapprovingly before turning round and slamming the shelter door shut.

A train whistle blew as train was getting ready for departure.

Edmund looked glumly at a poster which was telling people to send their children out of the city. His mum came over to him after tying a tag on Lucy's coat.

"If Dad were here we wouldn't make us go," He said, frowning at his mum as she tied another tag to his coat.  Elizabeth squeezed his hand. "Eddie," She whispered.

"If Dad were here, then the war would be over and we wouldn't have to go,"  Peter said, annoyed. He looked at Edmund who turned away, sulking.

"You will listen to your brother, won't you Edmund?" Their mum asked, looking at him. He looked back at the poster. She stood up and hugged him. She attempted to kiss his forehead but he turned his face away. She kissed his head instead.

She turned to Elizabeth who stood watching them.

Helen hugged Elizabeth who hugged her back. "Promise me you'll look after Edmund for me, and make sure that Peter and Edmund don't get into any fights with each other. Keep them both safe. Promise me that?" Helen whispered.

"I will, mum. I promise," Elizabeth choked.

"That's my girl," Helen smiled at her before kissing Elizabeth's forehead.

Helen turned to Peter and gave him a hug. "Promise me you'll look after the others?" She whispered.

Peter nodded. "I will mum," He managed to choke out.

"Good man." Helen smiled at him.

"Susan." Helen turned to Susan and hugged her as well.  "Be a big girl." She said.  Susan nodded, unable to speak in case she started to cry.

Helen turned to look at Edmund one last time. She hugged him again and whispered, "Look after Ellie, won't you? The two of you need to stick together." Edmund's face melted slightly. "I will," He whispered back, giving a small smile.

Helen smiled and straightened up to look at all her children.

"Well, of you go then." She said tears filling her eyes.

The five children turned to pick up their bags and headed for the train.

"Let go! I know how to get on a train by myself!" Edmund shook off Susan's hand. Lucy looked back to try and get a last look of her mum.

"Come on Lucy, we need to stick together now. It's going to be all right. It's going to be okay." Peter whispered to Lucy. Lucy buried her face in his neck before they carried on.

As a lady asked for their tickets, Peter and Elizabeth spotted a group of soldiers making their way down some stairs to a train.  Dad's a soldier, like them. And some of them might not even come back.  Elizabeth thought, sadly. Peter looked a little wistfully at them, wishing that he could go to the front line as well.

"Tickets please? Tickets please?!" The lady tried to take the tickets from Peter's hand. Elizabeth turned to look at what was going on.

"Peter!" Susan hissed, snatching the tickets from him and handing them over to to the lady. The lady checked it and nodded. "On you go." She said, handing the tickets back.

Peter snapped out of his daze and followed the others, mumbling, "sorry" to the lady as he went past.

They climbed on board and a guard shut the door after them. He blew a whistle, waving a green flag before climbing on board himself.

They five of them stuck their heads out window and waved at their mum.

"Bye mum! We'll see each other again soon! Bye! Bye!" They yelled, along with other children who were also waving to their mums or aunts.

"Good bye, my dears!" Helen whispered, smiling as the train pulled out of the station.

Hope you enjoyed this!! I will do a POV now and then. Apologize if I got some of the lines from the movie wrong. It has been a few months since I last watched LLW. I hope you all enjoy this. And remember, this is an introduction to a series. The series is during the Golden Age in Narnia.

(I don't know if Helen is her name, but most people have 'Helen' as their mum's name so I might as well use it)
