19: Late
Edmund half ran down the stairs, slipping he fell and crashed into a pole at the bottom.
"Ow!" He exclaimed, rubbing it, wincing. It was already starting to swell. He probably sprang it.
He didn't pay much attention to the throbbing pain in his wrist as he skidded across the great hall, which was a hustle and bustle from all the activity of the Calormene visit.
He finally saw his siblings and Elora getting ready to sit in their thrones. He pushed the door opened, forget about his injured arm and he let out a yelp, causing them to look at him. He grinned sheepishly at them.
All four tetrarchs glared at him.
"You are almost late." Lucy fussed. He jogged over to his throne, rubbing his arm with his other hand.
"What happened?" Elora asked, raising an eyebrow at his arm, which was very swollen by now.
"I ran into a pole."
Elora snorted quietly.
"If you would have begun to get ready when i told you-"
"I was ready! But them I was holding Arian and he apparently has an upset tummy. How was I supposed to know that?! He can't just tell me! He's four months old." Edmund snapped
Elora smirked and grabbed his arm gently. He winced as she felt it.
"It might be broken. We'll greet the Calormene ambassadors then I'll check it out better and take you to a healer." She muttered. He rolled his eyes.
"Okay." At the same time the doors swung opened and the group of Calormen's walked in, bowing to the Narnian kings and queens. They bowed respectfully in return.
"'Tis good to see thou Narnian sovereigns art well. The Tisroc (may he live forever) sends his greetings. And tis well to see King Edmund here, as one poet has said 'a tardy man is of no use to his country'." The main ambassador, a very old man in his eighties at least, greeted them. He looked pointedly at Edmund who leaned over to Lucy.
"It didn't even rhyme." He mumbled, barely audible, Elora heard him and glared. Lucy stifled a laugh, remembering how Edmund had gotten 'sick' last time the Calormens were there, unbeknownst to them the Calormen's took great insult in one being tardy or sick while someone was visit in.
The ambassador went on and on and on. Eventually Elora had to excuse herself to feed Arian, Edmund kept himself entertained by looking at the Calormen clothing color choices, which was not very lovely.
After the Calormene party had gone up to their rooms to retire for the night Edmund followed Lucy and Elora to the healers.
"It's not my fault. If the Tisroc (may he trip over his ugly shoes forever) hadn't been so sure we were planning a war against him which we weren't, I never would have fallen." He complained. Both Lucy and Elora cracked a smile at the insult.
Apparently, Edmund had actually broken his wrist, and to his great disappointment the healers said it wasn't bad enough to sit around doing nothing all day. But you can rest assured Edmund was always on time for most things since then.
